Professional Driver is an authoritative and campaigning monthly publication serving the UK private hire, taxi and chauffeur sector, one of the most dynamic
and growing parts of the UK fleet and business car market.
Accurately targeted circulationProfessional Driver is a controlled-
circulation, business-to-business magazine with a monthly frequency (12 issues a year) and a circulation of 11,000. The publication was launched May 2009, and was bought by its management team in January 2010. The sector accounts for significant sales of large cars, with a rich mix of up-market saloons, luxury SUVs and MPVs. The market is significant too - total licensed vehicle numbers in England increased by 9.3% to 242,200 from 2013-14. In addition, there are approximately 21,000 taxi and private hire vehicles in Scotland and 9,000 in Wales. In England, there has been an overall 31.2% increase in licensed vehicles since 2005.
Professional Driver circulates to all UK fleet operators of private hire and chauffeur vehicles and, outside London, taxi operators. The readership includes extremely large fleets such as Addison Lee, several thousand UK operators with in excess of 50 cars, and smaller niche operators, right down to one-car licenced chauffeur operators.
Award-winning, targeted contentThe companies operating in the sector are highly
professional, and have a need for information, news, features and advice designed to help them operate both profitably and professionally. Our targeted editorial mix offers market-specific news, features, operator profiles, road tests written specifically for chauffeurs and operators, and business advice stories. The magazine is a business-to-business title, but presented in a more consumer-oriented format than most automotive B2B titles. We carry an extensive news section
Introduction
every month, all of it specifically generated for our readership. This incisive news is largely exclusive to Professional Driver and is generally not available elsewhere, other than our magazine and our website, which is used to keep rolling stories going and keep a flow of stories in between our monthly publishing slots. Professional Driver Editor Mark Bursa was voted Business Writer of the Year in the 2013 Guild of Motoring Writers’ Awards on the strength of Professional Driver’s editorial content.
Professional Driver Buyers’ GuideProfessional Driver publishes a comprehensive
annual reference guide to new cars suitable for our readers – the first such guide dedicated to our sector. It contains tests, photos and data of 75 of the most popular cars aimed at our industry – everything from full-sized chauffeur cars to seven-seater minivans, luxury SUVs and more humble saloons and estates suitable for minicab work. All the cars have been thoroughly tested by the Professional Driver editorial team – data includes real-world fuel economy figures derived from our own comprehensive road tests. We also include Whole-Life Cost Tables for all the cars in the Guide, with data from highly respected analysts Fleet Audits. These have been exclusively developed for Professional Driver and are based on three years and 50,000 miles per annum, typical for our sector.

Professional Driver QSi AwardsOur Quality, Service and Innovation (QSi) reader
awards were launched in 2013. This initiative recognises the best companies and drivers in the private hire and chauffeur sector. There are 11 categories, and Gold, Silver and Bronze awards are presented in each one. Entries were of an extremely high standard, and around 350 people attend an annual black tie dinner, held at the Effingham Park Hotel near Gatwick Airport in November. The QSi Awards and the Car of the Year Awards are presented at the event. It has become a major feature of the calendar for our sector, and is the only event of its kind for operators in our industry.
Professional Driver Car of the Year Awards
The Professional Driver Car of the Year Awards was launched in 2009. It is the most thorough reader-judged car awards programme in the automotive industry. There are seven categories and an overall winner. Each year we organize a judging event at Sandown Park race course in Surrey, where around 50 vehicles are supplied for judging in seven categories. In 2016 around 100 judges participated, including more than 30 heads of leading companies in our industry. Cars are tested on the road and on site, with thorough judging criteria aimed at assessing their worth for our readers’ purposes. The winners are presented at our QSi Awards dinner in November.
The iCabbi ProDriver 100The ProDriver 100 is the definitive league table of
the UK’s private hire and taxi industry. It is compiled in partnership with leading computer systems supplier
iCabbi. The ProDriver 100 ranks the leading UK companies in order of fleet size. It is a unique piece of major research and is presented as a supplement within Professional Driver. Britain’s 100 largest private hire and taxi fleets operate in excess of 40,000 vehicles – close to 20% of the estimated 260,000 vehicles operated for hire and reward in the UK.
ProDriver Congress LondonIn 2016, Professional Driver launched another
major reader engagement initiative with a one-day conference at the Heathrow Renaissance Hotel, addressing major issues, including TfL regulations, Heathrow Airport, combatting new market entrants such as Uber, and the adoption of technology. We plan to repeat and expand this event in 2017, adding a supplier exhibition. And we are working on plans to adapt the Congress format into a number of regional events.
WebsiteIn addition to a monthly magazine, we put together
a well-read website containing unique news, features and road tests. Professional Driver has a strong online following with 8,000 readers of our digital edition each month. Subscribers receive an email containing a link to their personal edition and a brief overview of what is included in each monthly edition. The website also includes information about awards and events, and allows readers to register online for events such as ProDriver Congress, and to enter online for the QSi Awards.

QSi Awards Dinner 2019Thursday, 21st November
Effi ngham Park Hotel, Copthorne, West Sussex
Our annual black tie dinner and celebration of the best operators, drivers and cars in the private hire and chauffeur industry. The fi fth edition of our QSi Awards was the biggest yet, with more than 450 people stretching our regular venue, the Effi ngham Park Hotel near Gatwick Airport, to the limit. We launched the Professional Driver QSi Awards back in 2013 with a simple aim – to recognise and reward the best private hire operators, chauffeur fi rms and drivers in the UK. And we’re certainly getting there judging by the feedback from this year’s event. We’ve also created a much-needed social event for this industry. We know how many
hours you must have spent waiting to pick up your customers outside black tie dinners and Christmas parties at this time of year. The QSi Awards evening is designed to be our readers’ chance to get dressed up and let their hair down. And more and more companies are taking tables, treating their staff to a well-earned end-of-year party. On the night, we handed out a total of 34 trophies to the winning companies and drivers. There were 10 different QSi categories, each with Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. So there was something for everyone, from the owner-driver chauffeur to the giant Private Hire fl eets.

The Professional Driver Car of the Year awards are firmly established as the biggest and best reader-judged automotive awards in the industry. Nobody else does it our way. The awards are among the most rigorous in the automotive industry.
We hold an annual judging day event at Sandown Park racecourse in Surrey, where we give our readers a rare chance to evaluate competing cars back-to-back, in real-world conditions. More than 60 cars are delivered to the venue for a full day’s evaluation. We invite many of the leading operators in the country to join us as judges for the day. In fact our 100-strong panel this year comprised heads of chauffeur and private hire firms, experienced
chauffeurs and carefully chosen editors and journalists, who bring their objective eye and road testing experience to bear. Judges complete 17-point score sheets for each car they test. They drive the cars, ride in the back seats and test out the load space.
There are seven categories. As well as chauffeur cars, executive vehicles
and private hire cars, we choose the best MPV for chauffeuring, the best Car of the Year Judging Day 2018 Tuesday, 11th September and Wednesday, 12th, September Sandown Park Racecourse, Esher, Surrey estate car and the best luxury SUV for when tough winter conditions mean a serious 4x4 is needed. We also choose the best Green car, open to electric, plug-in hybrid or zero emission alternative fuel vehicles.

An overall Professional Driver Car of the Year is chosen from the seven category winners. All the winners are announced at our QSi Awards dinner in November at the Effingham Park Hotel, near Gatwick Airport.
This year we have extended the judging to two days on September 11th and 12th. This is in response to the high demand we have from operator throughout the UK to work with us as judges and ultimately give them the opportunity to drive all the shortlisted cars in a specific category one after the other.
We are opening both days to manufacturers to bring their mobile units with an appropriate display area and to offer further test drives to the invited judges perhaps on cars not featured on the shortlists.
We are aiming to have around 300 judges this year all of whom are involved with the buying process at their respective operations.
We will be hosting two dinners on the night before the awards and the middle night. The middle night is available for sponsorship.
Cost to be involved on both days £2500 + VAT.Sponsorship packages available on request
