work of leading LIFT in 2019. This year’s board is the first time that we are operating under the new parish
agreement where each full member congregation has 2 lay representatives serving on the board as well as the pastor
from each full member congregation. The 2019 LIFT Board has the following members: Jamie Gottron (chair),
Steve Hottinger (vice-chair), Mary Zucker (co-secretary), Traci Zoller (co-secretary), Sara Kaltenbach, Jan Harris,
Maureen Pump, Colleen Carmack, Eugene Nehls, Norma Elmer, Pastor Scott Mauch, Pastor Dennis Wansitler,
Pastor Jody Rice, and Pastor Matt Wheeler. Everyone met together for the first time on February 10th and will be
meeting 5 more times throughout the year. On behalf of the LIFT Board, I extend our deep gratitude to all those that
served on the board during 2018, especially Jean Dupey who served as last year’s chair.
With you on the journey,

practice. If you are interested in participating please call Pr. Jody in the church office, 419-332-1558.
THOUGHTS FROM THE LIFT PASTOR
Dear Friends in Christ,
I would like to thank all of you who helped make the inaugural Lift Parish partnership with Pack Away Hunger
meal packing event a complete success. Even though the weather was brutally cold people from every corner of the
Lift Parish showed up. Together we packed 40,000 meals in two hours. Yes, it was a little hectic and disorganized
at first, but with your patience and willingness to work we fell into a rhythm of harmonious food packing bliss. For
me it was so joyous to see the body of Christ in action to ensure that people will be fed, both locally and overseas.
Now for some nuts and bolts. The packing event had two costs involved. The first was a volunteer cost. We
needed 10 teams of 11-12 people (these were the white hair net people) along with 10 people who could move
things, (the green hair net people). This cost was met with utter enthusiasm and diligence. We had people of every
age working like a well oiled machine to accomplish the task at hand. Well done good and faithful servants!
The second cost was a monetary cost that provided for the packing site, the meal raw materials and the institution
that provided the event. This cost came to $12,240. Here we fell a little short. We raised 88% of that through all of
the donations we received from the churches of the Lift Parish. Where we fell short is partly my fault as I did
realize there would be a $240 charge for the use of Vanguard CTS. The other shortfall came as one of our
community partners dropped out in the last two weeks as they had a change of leadership. So as of today we have a
$1,300 shortfall in the budget. If you wish to donate to the Pack Away Hunger fund we will be accepting donation
until the end of the year.
Lastly, because of such a wonderful turnout and level of enthusiasm the Lift Board has put together a task force
that is looking into the parish becoming a part of the Alliance for Better Nutrition, which Pack Away Hunger is also
a part of. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Lift Parish of Fremont, Ohio became a center for feeding people here locally
and around the globe. Please keep the Lift Board in your prayers as they tackle this and many other aspects of our
life together.
Peace,
Pastor Scott

CHRISTIAN WALLET PRINCIPLES
Dear Friends in Christ,
So, as Christians, how are we to view our money? I hope you’ve noticed some trends emerge as
we’ve explored the various aspects of how we are to view and use our Christian wallets. My
research, prayer, and discernment regarding my own “wallet” has led me to a number of key
conclusions:
All of my wallet’s contents, every single penny, come from God. I am the steward, not the
owner.
My wallet is one crucial form of God’s provision within my life. It enables me to take care of
my family and myself and to serve others. My intent for deploying its contents is to be focused
on others, not on myself. I am responsible for asking myself daily, “How can I live more simply
so that others can simply live?”
Gratitude is critical. I will never enjoy what I already have, and God will not trust me with more
if I fail to have an attitude of gratitude.
My wallet’s contents are an investment tool for God’s kingdom purposes, not intended for self-
centered hoarding. I either trust God for my daily provision, my daily bread, or I don’t. I must
release it before God will increase it.
Earthly treasure is temporal, not eternal. I cannot take it with me and suspect I won’t even want
to when I reach the end of my life. My Christian wallet is to focus on that which will outlast my
physical presence on planet earth. Jesus said it better: “‘Do not store up for yourselves treasures
on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up
for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves
do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also’”
(Matt. 6:19–21).
My wallet is to be used to accomplish God’s good, never to propagate evil, including the
exploitation of other people or reckless, unthinking destruction of the earth’s resources.
Money is not something I should spend every waking moment thinking or worrying about.
Money in and of itself is not evil; it is simply provision. But as the apostle Paul said in
1 Timothy 6:10, the love of money could get me into all kinds of trouble.
Money will never bring me contentment—no matter how much or how little I have.
Contentment is found in relationship with Christ and with one another.
Ultimately, we each make a choice, consciously or unconsciously, to invest our God-provided
resources in serving ourselves or serving God’s purposes. The first is selfish and short-sighted; the
latter leads to new hope and renewed life. From this point forward with my own Christian wallet, I
choose life.

Walk By Faith meets the First Tuesday of each month inside at the Fremont Rec
Center. Gather at 9:00 am for a brief devotion and time of prayer before walking at your own
pace. Cost of walking inside is covered by LIFT. Once spring weather arrives we will resume

Faith Pause - Join this group of intergenerational adults in the youth room of St. John's from 7
-8 pm on the second Wednesday of each month. Following a short video a lively conversation
connects our modern lives to the Bible.

Fremont. This is the place to connect in person with Pam and learn about the latest with
LIFT. Remember if you can't make Office Hours you are always invited to schedule a time for
conversation with Pam.
DONUT ANGELS
The Evangelism Team has come up with a new strategy to help make ourselves known to the
community. Allow me to introduce the Donut Angels to you.
Every month we are asking that someone in the parish sign up to be a Donut Angel. If you decide to
sign up then follow these instructions.
Karen Schwochow at St. John’s has the sign-up sheet. Call, email, leave a voicemail, etc. and
Karen will add your name to the month you wish to serve.
Sometime during that month go to St. John’s and pick up the Donut Angels envelope.
In that envelope there is cash and the Donut Angel business cards.
Whatever morning you choose in the month you serve, purchase a dozen donuts (Ideal Bakery,
Walmart, Kroger, Tim Horton, etc.) and deliver them to a place of business or service in our
community. Examples: Dentist Offices, Dr. Offices, Fire Dept., Police Dept., City Hall, School
Offices, Law Offices, etc. Be creative.
Place a Donut Angel business card on the package before you deliver it.
Tell the recipient that they have been blessed by the Donut Angels and to have a great day.
Return the envelope with the receipt to Karen so that the next Donut Angel can continue the
ministry in the month to follow.
Tell Karen where you visited so that we do not repeat the visit during the year.
Have fun. We look forward to hearing your stories.
Peace,
Lift Evangelism Team
