2019 Rainwater Harvesting Seminar
Press Release: The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Fannin County would like to invite you to the Rainwater Harvesting Seminar that will take place on June 21, 2019 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm at the Derrell Hall Education Center, 2505 N. Center St. in Bonham! The seminar will feature Dr. Dr. Fouad Jaber, Ph.D, P.E., Associate Professor and Extension Specialist for the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Also, Fannin County
Master Gardeners will also be on hand to discuss and consult rainwater collection unit construction and uses for home and small acreage practices, and there will be a rainwater collection unit on site for viewing. The topics at this program will focus on Rainwater Collection Unit Uses, Rainwater System Planning, Installation, Operation and Maintenance.

Hayes Equine Horse Health TipsEMERGENCY TIP CUTS: RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FIRST AID WHEN YOU ARE
AWAY FROM HOME OR UNTIL VET ARRIVES. CUTS AND LACERATIONS: Clean the cut well with soap and water. Apply antibiotic ointment down the wound or Vetercyan spray. If it is bleeding profusely, you will need to pack cotton down into the wound, place a layer of cotton on top and wrap tightly with vet wrap or an Ace bandage to apply pres-sure to. This can be left on for 2-4 hours to get the bleeding under control, then a regular bandage can be applied. stop the bleeding
If the wound is a minor cut the bandage will need to be changed every 1-2 days. It is usually a good idea to have a Vet check the wound as soon as possible. Your horse may also require antibiotic treatment and Tetanus booster.
HOW TO APPLY A BANDAGE1. Apply layer of antibiotic ointment2. Cover wound with Telfa pad3. Wrap layer of sheet cotton over Telfa (around leg if it’s a leg wound)4. Wrap gauze roll over sheet cotton to hold pad and cotton in place5. Place vet wrap over gauze/cotton for secure bandage
EMERGENCY TIP : NAIL IN FOOTIf you discover a nail in the foot/hoof do not pull it out until you have your bandage
material laid out and ready to put on. Pulling a nail out and letting the horse put its foot down in the dirt with an open hole is just asking for an infection. You can put the foot down on a clean towel or feed sack.
1. Pull the nail out with a pair of pliers
2. Put antibiotic ointment or Betadine solution/Iodine in the hole
3. Place cotton pad on the bottom of foot
4. Wrap foot with vet wrap
5. Can use duct tape on the bottom for added strength and to prevent tearing through bottom
