This festival will gather the traditional performing arts of Iwate Prefecture and festivals of Sanriku Region to express gratitude for the support and to pray for the reconstruction. There will also be booths to introduce food from Sanriku.
To open the 2019 Sanriku Disaster Risk Reduction & Reconstruction Project, we will pray for the victims, present local communities who are striving for reconstruction, and express sincere gratitude for the support received from around the world. Junko Yagami, who supports reconstruction efforts, will give a talk and a concert to close the ceremony.
The symposium will focus on four themes to enhance disaster risk reduction capacity and reflect on post-disaster community recovery, while aiming at “Build Back Better,” one of the priorities for action set in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 which was adopted at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, in 2015.
Various music events will be held across the Sanriku Region, including classical music concerts by Yutaka Sado and the Super Kids Orchestra.
