This festival will gather the traditional performing arts of Iwate Prefecture and festivals of Sanriku Region to express gratitude for the support and to pray for the reconstruction. There will also be booths to introduce food from Sanriku. To open the 2019 Sanriku Disaster Risk Reduction & Reconstruction Project, we will pray for the victims, present local communities who are striving for reconstruction, and express sincere gratitude for the support received from around the world. Junko Yagami, who supports reconstruction efforts, will give a talk and a concert to close the ceremony. The symposium will focus on four themes to enhance disaster risk reduction capacity and reflect on post-disaster community recovery, while aiming at “Build Back Better,” one of the priorities for action set in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 which was adopted at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, in 2015. Various music events will be held across the Sanriku Region, including classical music concerts by Yutaka Sado and the Super Kids Orchestra. Contents We will express gratitude for the reconstruction support received from around the world, and introduce Sanriku today which is still under reconstruction. Following the ceremony, Ryuichi Sakamoto, a supporter of reconstruction efforts, and the Tohoku Youth Orchestra (string quartet) will give a closing concert. We will provide information on the region and this project at transport hubs (roadside stations, JR and Sanriku Railway stations) and tourism/disaster-related facilities. We will also display panels explaining the reconstruction work, along with artworks by local associations. Contents This project focuses on food, one of Sanriku’s rich resources. Restaurants that offer local ingredients, recipes and food culture will be registered as “HAMA-MESHI Stores” to promote Sanriku food. A stamp rally to tour around HAMA-MESHI Stores will be introduced in the official guidebook. The Sanriku International Gastronomy Conference 2019 will be held with renowned chefs from around the world. In the Sanriku Gastronomy Salon, chefs from Japan and abroad, as well as local chefs, will show off their skills in the leading restaurants in the 13 coastal municipalities. Contents Major stations of Sanriku Railway, the gateway to Sanriku, will be decorated with flowers and plants to create a beautiful landscape. Contents We have hands-on exhibitions at the Symposium venue to teach how to prepare for disasters and reduce disaster risks. We will also display panels explaining the reconstruction in each information station. The lunch will use delicious ingredients unique to Sanriku, including ingredients that were revived after the 2011 tsunami. Sanriku’s food and cuisine will be introduced during the lunch. (2) Sanriku Uhoho Train Delicious local cuisine made with Northern Sanriku’s summer delicacies – sea urchins, sea squirts, and scallops – will be offered at a reasonable price. For train fans, the night train will run on the entire Rias Line (Mori–Kuji, 163 km) which became Japan’s longest third-sector railway following the complete reopening of Sanriku Railway. Photo rogaining beginners, family teams and first-time visitors to Iwate’s coastal region are all welcome. Enjoy the abundant charms of the Sanriku Coast. Contents In collaboration with Kamaishi Kizuna Council (a group of elementary and junior high school students in Kamaishi), we will create a mosaic using scallop shells from Sanriku, based on a design by local children. Following the mosaic art completion event in March 2019 on the occasion of the complete reopening of the Sanriku Railway, the mosaic will be installed inside the Kamaishi Unosumai Memorial Stadium during this project to express gratitude for the support. Contents An opera will be performed in collaboration with the Reborn-Art Festival, an art group engaged in reconstruction efforts. Artworks by local art groups will also be exhibited in 13 coastal municipalities. Contents Programs The caravan, including celebrities engaged in reconstruction efforts, will visit community centers and local facilities to cheer up the locals and contribute to the development of the community, while listening to the needs of the municipalities and the people engaged in the management of temporary housing and community development. This festival will gather the traditional performing arts of Iwate Prefecture and festivals of Sanriku Region to express gratitude for the support and to pray for the reconstruction.There will also be booths to introduce food from Sanriku.

To open the 2019 Sanriku Disaster Risk Reduction & Reconstruction Project, we will pray for the victims, present local communities who are striving for reconstruction, and express sincere gratitude for the support received from around the world. Junko Yagami, who supports reconstruction efforts, will give a talk and a concert to close the ceremony.

The symposium will focus on four themes to enhance disaster risk reduction capacity and reflect on post-disaster community recovery, while aiming at “Build Back Better,” one of the priorities for action set in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 which was adopted at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, in 2015.

Various music events will be held across the Sanriku Region, including classical music concerts by Yutaka Sado and the Super Kids Orchestra.

We will express gratitude for the reconstruction support received from around the world, and introduce Sanriku today which is still under reconstruction. Following the ceremony, Ryuichi Sakamoto, a supporter of reconstruction efforts, and the Tohoku Youth Orchestra (string quartet) will give a closing concert.

We will provide information on the region and this project attransport hubs (roadside stations, JR and Sanriku Railwaystations) and tourism/disaster-related facilities. We will alsodisplay panels explaining the reconstruction work, alongwith artworks by local associations.

Contents This project focuses on food, one of Sanriku’s rich resources. Restaurants that offer local ingredients, recipes and food culture will be registered as “HAMA-MESHI Stores” to promote Sanriku food. A stamp rally to tour around HAMA-MESHI Stores will be introduced in the official guidebook.

The Sanriku International Gastronomy Conference 2019 will be held with renowned chefs from around the world. In the Sanriku Gastronomy Salon, chefs from Japan and abroad, as well as local chefs, will show off their skills in the leading restaurants in the 13 coastal municipalities.

Contents Enjoy lunch while gazing at the scenic view from the windows of the Sanriku Railway train. The lunch will

use delicious ingredients unique to Sanriku, including ingredients that were revived after the 2011 tsunami. (1) Sanriku Premium Lunch Train The course meal has been supervised by a renowned

chef who supports reconstruction efforts and uses local ingredients. Sanriku’s food and cuisine will be introduced during the lunch.

(2) Sanriku Uhoho Train Delicious local cuisine made with Northern Sanriku’s summer delicacies – sea urchins, sea squirts, and scallops – will be offered at a reasonable price.

For train fans, the night train will run on the entire Rias Line (Mori–Kuji, 163 km) which became Japan’s longest third-sector railway following the complete reopening of Sanriku Railway.

Contents A forum, exhibitions in coastal museums, and a Family Fishing Festival & Geo Tour will be held to promote the understanding of Sanriku Geopark and encourage visits.

The first photo rogaining in the coastal area of Iwate Prefecture! The course will include unique spots of Iwate Sanriku, such as scenic Geopark spots on the Sanriku Coast, earthquake heritage sites, and the Michinoku Coastal Trail. Photo rogaining beginners, family teams and first-time visitors to Iwate’s coastal region are all welcome. Enjoy the abundant charms of the Sanriku Coast.

In collaboration with Kamaishi Kizuna Council (a group of elementary and junior high school students in Kamaishi), we will create a mosaic using scallop shells from Sanriku, based on a design by local children. Following the mosaic art completion event in March 2019 on the occasion of the complete reopening of the Sanriku Railway, the mosaic will be installed inside the Kamaishi Unosumai Memorial Stadium during this project to express gratitude for the support.
