THE SERIESSCOUTING THE QUAKERS • Penn dropped its first contest of the season in a 14-9 loss at No. 2 Maryland Wednesday. The Quakers and the Terrapins had entered the contest as two of the nation’s eight remaining unbeaten teams. Penn held the upper hand in draw controls against the Terrapins, led by seven draws from Chelsea Kibler. • Gabby Rosenzweig headlines the attack with 38 points (15g, 23a) and leads the Ivy League in assists and points. • Goalkeeper Mikaila Cheeseman is the national leader in save percentage (.622). • The Quakers top the Ivy League and rank third nationally in scoring defense (6.67).

LAST TIME WE MET • Trailing by just one at halftime, Duke was unable to keep pace with Penn in the second period, falling 15-11 March 17, 2018 at Koskinen Stadium. • Despite controlling the draw by a 17-11 margin and receiving 10 saves from goalkeeper Gabbe Cadoux, the Blue Devils struggled to match the Quakers on the offensive end over the final 18 minutes.• Olivia Jenner corralled eight draws against the Quakers and Maddie Crutchfield added five and led all Blue Devils with three goals.

DUKE VS. THE IVY LEAGUE • The Blue Devils are 32-21 all-time against teams from the Ivy League.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS • Davidson also dropped its first contest of the season this week, falling 9-8 to William & Mary Thursday to enter the weekend at 6-1. The Wildcats and the Blue Devils have two mutual opponents to date, with both squads facing Elon and William & Mary. • The Wildcats entered the week leading the Atlantic 10 and ranked third nationally in scoring defense (6.83 gaa). Davidson was also top 10 in the country in scoring margin (7.06).• Delaney Guhman ranked among the top three goalkeepers nationally in goals against average (8.58). • Braeden Dial (16g, 5a) leads the squad with 21 points and Gianna New (14g, 3a) owns 17 points while Sarah Kopp has a team-high 31 draw controls.

LAST TIME WE MET • Senior attacker Kerrin Maurer won a career-high nine draw controls and joined teammates Brigid Smith, Kitty Morrissey, Maddie Crutchfield and Katie Trees in scoring two goals each as fifth-ranked Duke downed Davidson 13-6 March 31, 2015 at the Wildcats’ Richardson Stadium.• The Blue Devils moved to 11-1 on the season with the non-conference victory.

DUKE VS. THE ATLANTIC 10 • The Blue Devils own an all-time record of 33-2 against teams from the Atlantic 10.

NOTING DUKENATIONAL HONORS FOR NORTH • Sophomore attacker Charlotte North was named the Brine/US Lacrosse Player of the Week Monday following her performance in the Blue Devils’ overtime victory at Louisville.• North notched a hat trick for the seventh time in as many contests this season. The Dallas, Texas native buried a pair of free position shots coming out of halftime and tied the contest at 10-10 with 58 seconds remaining in regulation. She came through in the clutch again in the second overtime period, collecting a ground ball off a missed shot and firing it into the back of the net for the game winner.• Showing no signs of slowing down in her sophomore season, North paces the Blue Devils with 36 goals and 15 assists.

COMING THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH • Sophomore attacker Charlotte North delivered her seventh goal of the day in dramatic fashion, sending Duke to an 11-10 overtime victory at Louisville last Sunday. Following one scoreless overtime period of six minutes, North collected a rebound and put it away a minute and a half into a second overtime period, giving the Blue Devils their second overtime win in as many ACC contests this season. • Senior Ellie Majure buried a Catherine Cordrey pass 31 seconds into overtime to send Duke past Virginia Tech, 11-10, in a thrilling ACC opener Feb. 23 at Duke’s Cohan Fields.

• The Duke program is 9-9 all-time in overtime contests. CADOUX’S CAREER-HIGH DAY • Junior goalkeeper Gabbe Cadoux recorded a career-high 12 saves last Sunday at Louisville, making eight stops in the second half as Duke rallied to tie the contest in regulation. Cadoux hit double digits in saves for the second time on the season after recording 10 in the overtime victory against Virginia Tech Feb. 23.• Cadoux’s performance against the Cardinals moved her close to the 200-save mark for her career with 192 saves in 33 career contests. That total ranks her seventh all-time at Duke.• Cadoux enters the weekend ranked third in the ACC and top-25 nationally in goals against average (8.83).

MILESTONE WATCH • Sophomore Charlotte North and senior Olivia Jenner are both approaching the 100-goal mark for their careers, entering the weekend with 95 and 91 tallies, respectively. • Only 17 players in program history have surpassed the 100-goal milestone, with 2018 graduate Kyra Harney (142 goals) among the most recent to accomplish the feat. • Both Jenner and North hit the 100-point mark for their careers already this season, with Jenner doing so in the season opener and North reaching the century mark March 1 against William & Mary. • North also became one of just seven players in program history to reach the century mark in points in her second year. She is the quickest player in program history to 100 career points, reaching the milestone in only 22 contests.

AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS • With a Feb. 23 overtime win against then-No. 23 Virginia Tech, the Blue Devils improved to 20-29 against ranked foes since 2015.

STRONG OUT OF THE GATES • Duke’s 6-1 start to the season is the best for the program since 2015, when the Blue Devils kicked off the year 9-0. • The 6-1 ledger includes one victory over a ranked opponent, an 11-10 overtime defeat of No. 23 Virginia Tech Feb. 23 in Durham.

SCHEDULING THE BEST • Three of Duke’s upcoming opponents are currently ranked inside the top 10 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association national poll, including this weekend’s opponent in No. 8 Penn.• The Blue Devils are also set to face No. 4 Syracuse and No. 5 Virginia in the next two weekends. • Duke remained top-15 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll this week, as well as in national polls released by Inside Lacrosse and US Lacrosse Magazine.

OLIVIA JENNER IN ELITE COMPANY • After reaching the 400-draw control mark for her career at Elon March 3, senior attacker Olivia Jenner added a season-best 14 draws last Sunday at Louisville. Already Duke’s all-time leader in the category, she is also the Division I active career leader. • Jenner is one of only 11 players in Division I history to reach the 400 draw control mark for their careers. Robert Morris’ Jessica Karwacki (2013-16) holds the NCAA record with 645 draw controls.• Sisters Olivia (52) and Maddie Jenner (35) have accounted for 87 of Duke’s 129 draw controls this season (67 percent). • Olivia Jenner’s 14-draw output at Louisville is the eighth-highest by any Division I player in a game this season.• The Blue Devils are 5-1 this season when winning the draw controls category. Duke is third nationally in the category with an average of 18.43 draws per outing.

SOLID DEFENSIVE STRETCH • The Blue Devils have surrendered just 28 goals over the past four contests to rank third in the ACC and 11th nationally in scoring defense (8.29 gaa). Duke allowed just nine shots in a March 1 win over William & Mary. • Trailing 9-6 with 10 minutes remaining Feb. 23 against Virginia Tech, the defensive unit allowed just one tally the rest of the way, fueling the comeback run. • Senior defender Charlotte Tucci leads the team in caused turnovers (9), while junior defender Callie Humphrey’s 17 ground balls pace the squad and rank her fourth in the ACC (2.43 gbpg).

ROOKIES SHINE AT ELON • A pair of Blue Devil rookies contributed to Duke’s first half scoring outburst March 3 at Elon. Olivia Rubin notched the first hat trick of her career and tacked on one assist for a season-best four points while Veronica Hineman filled the stat sheet, coming up big on both ends of the field.• Hineman finished with two goals and one assist on the offensive end and led the defense with five ground balls and three draw controls. • Hineman is tied for second on the squad with eight caused turnovers this spring while Rubin is fourth on the squad in goals (9) and points (10).

NORTH ALREADY IN RECORD-BREAKING FORM • After etching her name in the Duke record books as a rookie, sophomore attacker Charlotte North hasn’t missed a beat to open 2019. She has tallied at least four goals in six of the first seven games to start the year. • North’s 11-point output Feb. 13 against Presbyterian broke Duke’s single-game points record of nine previously held

by North and former Blue Devils Maddie Crutchfield, Kelci Smesko and Tricia Martin. North’s single-game high of 11 points is tied for the second most in the country.• North’s six assists in the win over the Blue Hose matched Crutchfield’s single-game record established against Louisville in 2016. OLIVIA JENNER TOPS CENTURY MARK • With her goal at the 5:30 mark in the first half of the season-opening win over Villanova, senior attacker Olivia Jenner notched the 100th point of her career. She owns 130 points in 61 career contests to rank 22nd in school history. • Jenner also ranks among the top 30 players in Duke history in career goals (23rd, 91), assists (t19th, 39) and free position goals (t20th, 15) and is the Blue Devils’ all-time leader in career draw controls (414).

PRESEASON ACCOLADES • Senior attacker Olivia Jenner garnered Preseason All-ACC recognition. A first team IL Media All-America pick last spring, Jenner led Duke at the draw in 2018 with an ACC-best 149 draw controls.• Jenner was also named to Inside Lacrosse’s Preseason All-America third team in December, and was joined in earning preseason accolades from the publication by teammates Callie Humphrey and Charlotte North, who were honorable mention selections.

MADDIE JENNER EARNS SPOT ON U.S. U19 TEAM • Blue Devil freshman Maddie Jenner was named to the 2019 U.S. U19 women’s national team training roster following a late January Spring Premiere weekend in Stanford, Calif.• Jenner, who had a game-high nine draw controls in an 18-8 victory over England, was one of 23 players to make the latest U19 roster, released Jan. 31.

CHALLENGING SLATE AWAITS • Duke’s 2019 slate features seven contests against opponents who were selected to the 2018 NCAA Championship field. In addition, half of Duke’s 2019 opposition finished this past season with 10 or more wins.

LEADING THE WAY • Blue Devil seniors Olivia Jenner, Jamie Lockwood, Ellie Majure and Charlotte Tucci have been tabbed team captains for the 2019 season.

FRESHMAN CLASS AMONG TOPS IN COUNTRY • Duke’s freshman class was tabbed No. 4 in the country by Inside Lacrosse in the publication’s fall Recruiting Issue.• Maddie Jenner, an attacker and draw specialist from Annapolis, Md., was among the 2018 ILWomen Power 100 Women’s Incoming Freshmen – Top 10, coming in at No. 4. She was joined in the publication’s Class of 2018 Power 100 by Anna Callahan of Glenwood, Md., at No. 12, Olivia Rubin of Baltimore, Md., at No. 44 and Sophia LeRose of San Diego, Calif., at No. 46.

GRIFFIN JOINS BLUE DEVIL COACHING STAFF • Head coach Kerstin Kimel announced in July the addition of Brooke Griffin to the Blue Devil staff as an assistant coach.• Griffin completed an outstanding collegiate career at Maryland in 2015, twice earning first team All-America laurels from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). She was the Big Ten Attack Player of the Year and a Tewaaraton Award nominee as a senior.

The only head coach in Duke women’s lacrosse history, Kerstin Kimel has led the program from its inception in 1996, molding the Blue Devils into one of the nation’s elite teams.

In Kimel’s 23 seasons at the helm of Duke women’s lacrosse, she has guided the Blue Devils to seven national semifinals, four ACC regular season titles, an ACC Tournament Championship and 19 NCAA Tournament appearances.

A five-time ACC Coach of the Year, Kimel has overseen 59 All-America selections, 83 all-region honorees and 74 All-ACC picks. Seven of her former players have represented their countries on the world’s stage, competing at the 2009, 2013 and 2017 World Cups. The Blue Devils have achieved equal success in the classroom during Kimel’s tenure, collecting 67 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll accolades since 1997.

Kimel registered her 250th career victory Feb. 22, 2015 in a win over William & Mary. She is one of just six active Division I head coaches with 290 or more wins.

Kimel was honored with an IWLCA Service Award in November, 2016 for her work as co-chair of the NCAA Division I Legisla-tion Committee to slow down early recruiting within the sport. She was presented with the IWLCA’s highest award, the Diane Geppi-Aikens Memorial Award, in November, 2015.

Most recently, Kimel served as Co-Chair of the IWLCA Recruiting Issues Committee from 2014-16 and is currently the Chair of the IWLCA Division I Legislative Committee and the South Region FBS representative on the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Committee.

Prior to her arrival at Duke, Kimel was the head coach at Davidson College, leading the newly-created Wildcats program to a 4-8 record in 1994 as one of the nation’s youngest head coaches in her first and only season at Davidson.

Kimel was no stranger to NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse before her time at Davidson, having played at the University of Maryland from 1990-93. During her career, she led the Terrapins to four consecutive national semifinal appearances and the 1992 NCAA National Championship. The Havertown, Pa., native was a two-time All-America selection and the 1993 NCAA National Defensive Player of the Year, appearing in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd.” Kimel graduated from Maryland in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in speech communications.
