Saturday 7th December KO 15:00
Good afternoon and welcome to our visitors from Gosport Borough. We extend our hospitality to the officials, players, staff and supporters. We hope you enjoy your time with us and have a safe journey home.
Today we host Gosport Borough who are eighth in the league. They remain in the F.A. Trophy after winning against Melksham Town 4-2 and next they face Bath City away for which we wish them luck.
We didn’t have a game last Saturday so it gave me and other board members the chance to come along and support our youth. They played very well and we had a good afternoon of some entertaining football. Unfortunately they didn’t get a win. Thank you to all the supporters who came along to lend their support.
Today we also welcome Andy Culliford and his family and friends. Andy played for several clubs including Bristol Rovers, QPR and Yeovil when he was younger. He then went on to join the Fire Service and moved to Dorset where he joined Wimborne Town to
carry on his football career. He played for a number of other clubs in the area finallyfinishing up again with Wimborne.
Here at Wimborne we have hosted several fund raising games to raise money for essential medication to help Andy. In September 2012 the Andy Culliford All Stars played AFC Bournemouth when Harry Redknapp acted as the All Stars manager. In May 2013 with the help of Brian McIntyre, Liam Brady brought down a team from Arsenal for a friendly as a fund raising game.
Each year we play Gosport for the Andy Culliford Cup and hope that today there will be plenty of support and that we may win the cup!
Tony Grant, Chairman
Thank you all for your ongoing support and enjoy today’s game.

FROM THE DUG OUT
Today we welcome Gosport players and staff to the Cuthbury, we unfortunately had no fixture last Saturday due to the FA Trophy fixtures which we sadly no longer are in.
This season I feel frustrated with the way 2 major Cup competitions, in how the lads played so well and yet I, and I’m sure you’ll agree, we had big decisions not go our way.
The players I really do feel for as they gave everything and I was proud of what they did against 2 top sides in Truro FA Cup and Taunton in the Trophy, we certainly couldn’t have had any harder games.
I’m sure the board and supporters feel our frustration also, we certainly deserve luck to change somewhere along the way.
Financially the competitions are massive and the people behind the scenes deserve more. I suppose you have to make your own luck as they say.
The last game at home to Yate we were very disciplined, especially the
2nd half we created opportunities and were more aggressive in the final 3rd and also keeping a clean sheet made it even better, we need to build on those positives.
Today will be a tough challenge, Gosport have been going well and today is important for us to build on our home form and keep a winning mentality as the team have shown recently in there performances.
The Development squad have been fantastic and on Saturday afternoon I watched them, we have a great group playing fantastic football and look technically good which shows why they are doing well in league and cups as well as the other age groups, it's great work Darren and his coaching staff as well as Terry are doing.
Enjoy the game, best wishes

FROM THE CHANGING ROOM
They have brought in some very good players from teams in this league and also some from Havant and Waterlooville who went full time in the summer
Hi all and welcome to today’s game against Gosport, I would like to welcome there players staff and fans and hope the have a enjoyable time with us.
Our last home game was 2 weeks ago against Yate, with us coming out on top 2-0. That was a massive win knowing that we had no league games until today. We have given ourselves a little bit of breathing room between us and the relegation places with that victory we could rest a bit easier knowing we didn’t have a game and we were mid-table.
Today will be a very game, Gosport have signed a lot of players over the summer and after a slightly slow start to there season there in good form now climbing the table nicely.
Best wishes
when they lost players through not being able to commit to full time training.
I hope you all enjoy today’s game and get behind the team as always.
We have nearly a full squad available now with players coming back from injury.
Rico is a couple weeks away now from returning and Josh is nearly back to full fitness too.

CLUB LINE UP 2019-20 SEASON
Andy Culliford
Our match today against Gosport Borough will be for the Andy Culliford Trophy as well as league points. Andy played for both clubs, besides Poole Town, Brockenhurst, Bournemouth Poppies, Bashley & Paulton Rovers.
The FA have given special permission for both clubs to take part today and Andy
will be present with his family & carers. So many people have asked me how is he getting on, below and opposite is an update from his wife Donna.
Thank you all for your support,
Brian McIntyre
Nine years has passed since Andrew’s Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis. It’s unbelievable to think back to that dreaded day when we were told the news and think that Andrew would still be here fighting today. Each day brings tough challenges for Andrew. The simplest of tasks that we take for granted are often a logistical nightmare and leave Andrew
drained physically and mentally.
Against the odds and in contradiction to the experts predictions Andrews physical health has not declined continuously. A couple of years ago we lived day by day but today his physical health feels far less precarious. This is due to the fact that he has a fantastic

Andrew continues to follow a healthy diet and continues to make an effort to remain as mobile as possible by exercising in his hydrotherapy pool and by cycling on a static bike with his carers support. Andrew often refers to himself “as the wellest ill man alive!”
“team” around him caring for him day and night and because Andrew has always challenged medical boundaries. As a family we have never followed the standard protocol for managing Motor Neurone Disease and fortunately we have a couple of forward thinking clinicians and doctors who continue to support our unorthodox techniques!
Our household is a hub of technology! Andrew controls everything with his eye gaze communication device. Lights go on and off unexpectedly, music booms out during peaceful evenings or suddenly his “ synthesised voice” will be heard through
Andrews daughter, Isla, continues to be the shining light in his life. They can often be seen snuggled up in bed watching a film together or messing about in the hydrotherapy pool. The pair share a passion for business ideas and are currently making a start on another new business venture!
Alexa technology. There is no point fighting over the TV remote in our house. Andrew is far quicker at flicking through TV channels than any of us!

Thank you to everybody here today supporting this match. The football community continues to give Andrew emotional support through difficult times and gives us all an invaluable feeling of belonging.

Andy Culliford
Andy played for Wimborne in three separate spells; first in 2000/01, returning for 2006/07 & finally coming back to Cuthbury from Bournemouth Poppies in December 2010 to help us survive our first ever season in the Southern League. In total, Andy took the field for the Magpies 58 times and scored 9 goals.
His detailed WTFC stats are:
2010/11 Southern League 18 starting appearances 2 substitute appearances 2 goals
2000/01 Wessex League 5 starting appearances 4 substitute appearances 0 goals
Amongst others, Andy has graced the jerseys of Gosport Borough, QPR, Poole Town, Bristol Rovers, Bridgwater Town, Bashley, Brockenhurst, Lymington & New Milton, Poppies and, of course, Wimborne Town where he is fondly remembered by former teammates and fans as an experienced midfielder who understood football and who would run all day for the team.
2006/07 Wessex League 26 starting appearances 3 substitute appearances 7 goals
Alan BallBecause the payment to the famous European Players were small, in order to attract them to Singapore my club not only offered to take their wives but also provide them after the tournament with a local weeks holiday near Singapore, such as Penang, Langkawi and Bali.
About half a mile from the Langkawi Beach Hotel, Malaysia, on the beach there is a 'bum' bar run by a German with his Thai girlfriend and it is happy hour between 5-6pm when the drinks are half price.
Our party of eighteen agreed to meet there and I walked in with Alan Ball and
When I told him, he immediately said 'when the ball never went over the line! Who else is coming 'Rainer Bonoff - what here - who else Tony Woodcock - what from Cologne - I don't believe - yes they are all walking down the beach.
He did not charge us a penny and in return we gave him a signed photograph of the team and had a few wonderful sessions there! Alan loved his racing and was very close to Mick Channon.
started to arrange the tables of 4 into a long table. The owner asked what I was doing and I told him we were a football team the Euro All stars and did he know who was sitting in the chair.

Signed for Portsmouth fc at the age of 13 and played there until the age of 17 earning a first team squad number. Upon being released from Portsmouth he signed for Havant & Waterlooville making his debut in the conference south at the age of 17 spending 10 years of his career there, over 2 spells of playing over 200 competitive games for the club. Most recently winning 2 league titles & playing last season in the National League. In between spells at Havant he had a successful season at Borough and now under new management he was delighted to return.
- Central Defender
to sign halfway through the year and played an important part of Boroughs survival last season.
Ryan Woodford
Charlie Kennedy
Last season’s Basingstoke captain has agreed to join the BORO’ revolution and play his football for the boys from Privett Park next season. Charlie is an inspirational and gifted player who has been on many clubs wanted list for some time, including Gosport’s .Basingstoke’s unfortunate last day of the season relegation, was a disappointment for Charlie and he has decided to come to the BORO’ and add his tremendous ability to the new team being put together by our management team. Charlie joined Basingstoke from Barnet back in 2016 and has been a massive player for the ‘Dragons’.
Mike Carter - Central Midfield
- Central Midfield
The former Hawks midfielder was understandably attracting interest from other teams looking to secure the experienced National League player, but the opportunity to come home to Privett Park, and be part of the BORO’ revolution was irresistible for ‘Carts’. Gosport fans were delighted when Carter came back to the BORO’ on a month’s loan in February to help his former club in their hour of need and was instrumental in three wins out of four games played before being recalled by Havant & Waterlooville. The midfield engine of the BORO’ team will run stronger with combative Carts in the thick of the action.

- Central DefenderStarted his career at AFC Totton at 19, Playing for the reserves for just short of a year before making the first team. The following season Sam was involved more regularly with the first team making many appearances. A long term injury cut the centre backs next season short, upon his return of fitness he spent a couple of months with Hamble FC. The season of 18/19 Sam left AFC Totton to join Winchester city where he impressed in pre-season and fixed his place in the starting line. After 6 months he was approached by Gosport and agreed

Thoe Lewis - Central MidfieldTheo who was born in Oxford, started his youth career with Chelsea & Reading before joining Cheltenham in 2007.Moving on to play for Salisbury between 2012 - 2014, before joining Woking and then Ebbsfleet United. In 2015 Theo agreed to join the Hawks and has been an integral part of the Havant & Waterlooville squad up until this summer. Theo’s National League experience will definitely bolster the BORO’s midfield next season.
- Strikerlast season’s ‘Watersiders’ striker/winger Liam Robinson, has agreed to join the BORO’ boys for the coming season. Liam enjoyed a fantastic campaign with Blackfield & Langley last season, who were promoted as worthy Champions of the Evo-Stik League South Division One South, having won the league by a convincing 7 point advantage over second placed Cirencester. New signing Liam was a stalwart of the Watersiders team with 30 x appearances and 9 x goals to his credit.

- Central Defender
- Defensive Midfield
Last season’s Basingstoke striker, Sam Argent has agreed to make the move to the BORO’ for the coming season. A prolific goal scorer for both Basingstoke and previous club Hartley Wintney.
Young central defender Callum Chugg (21), has made the move from AFC Totton to add his considerable presence to BORO's new defence .Fans favourite Callum has been at Totton since mid 2017 - joining from his former club AFC Fawley. A regular in the Stags first team over the last two years, chipping in with some spectacular goals, Callum is just the type of player to excite the BORO’ fans.
Josh Huggins
BORO' for a short loan spell in March of last season. The ex Farnborough / Havant & Waterlooville player, who is equally comfortable playing as a defender or in midfield, is a great addition to manager Molly's new squad, and joins the boys for the start of their pre-season preparations from next week.
Stared his career at AFC Bournemouth and has since played for Yeovil, AFC Wimbledon ,Eastleigh, Hayes & Yeading, Marlow, Whitehawk. Richie spent last season playing for Hungerford town but having also previously had a short spell at Gosport Richie returns under new Management for the up coming season.
- Midfield
- StrikerIt was back in 2014 that Matt joined Gosport from Aldershot Town and struck up an awesome goal scoring partnership with Justin Bennett. That 2014/15 season Matt scored 25 goals - was credited with 28 assists, and helped the BORO hotshot duo score a record breaking 58 goals WOW! Last seasons National League striker will add massive fire power to the already deadly Sam Argent.
Rory played for the BORO' before going on to eventually play at National League level last season for the Hawks, where he was club captain. The signing is a major coup for Gosport's new management team, with the ultra professional set up and way of working a big factor in Rory's decision to join us.

OUR VISITORS HISTORY
Despite surviving the following season, Gosport finished bottom in 1991/92 and were relegated back to county football (Wessex League).
Despite winning the Hampshire League at their first attempt in 1945/46, dropping “Athletic” in the 1960s, and over the decades being a major force in County football, silverware was rare at Privett Park and the Championship was not realised again until back-to-back titles in 1976/77 and 1977/78.
Gosport Borough Athletic Club as the club were originally known, were formed just two weeks after D-Day (6th June 1944).
After four seasons at the top end of the Southern League’s Southern Division, promotion was won to the Premier Division for 1982/83-at the time an equivalent level to the later Conference South.
The two Hampshire League titles led to a successful application to join Southern League for 1978/79 and a period of 14 seasons in the (then) upper echelons of the non- league game began.
At the start of the century, things started to turn for the better at The Boro. Reserve team manager Mick Marsh was put in charge of the 1st XI and with the Club emerging from their financial difficulties, a return to the Southern League was back on the agenda. Marsh chased the dream for five seasons, finishing in the top four on four occasions before he retired in 2005.
Boro spent seven seasons in the Premier Division before relegation in season 1989/90.
The club competed for a couple of seasons and did lift the Wessex League Cup in 1993 but with the Club struggling for money and minimal crowds, Chairman Ian Hay set up a trustee scheme which kept the club alive through their darkest days, helping to support the club with fans providing regular income.
Under manager Alex Pike, Boro won the Wessex League title on goal difference in Pike's first season (2006/07).
With the club back in the Southern League in 2007/08, it wasn't until season 2011/12 that success came when Boro achieved third spot and a play-off place, winning the Play-Off Final after a Steve Claridge strike sent the game to extra time. Two goals without reply in the additional 30 minutes saw Boro promoted back to the Southern League Premier Division.
In season 2012/13, Pike’s men enjoyed FA Cup success as a precursor to an unbeaten run of 23 games which lifted Boro into a play-off place. Boro saw off second placed Stourbridge in the semi, before beating Hemel Hempstead Town 2-0 in the final only to concede two late goals before winning promotion on penalties.
So the board’s planned rise from county football to Conference South was complete and Gosport started 2013/14 again looking to establish themselves at a new level.
Like the season before, Boro struggled to find their feet at the new level and after flirting with the relegation zone for much of the season, it took another cup run to gain the belief needed to lift the team clear of danger. An FA Trophy run which started in November, ended with The Boro playing beneath the Wembley Arch in a final against Cambridge United in front of over 18,000. The result saw United run out 4-0 winners, but the belief that flowed through the squad as a result of the Trophy run put Gosport back on track and lifted them into a comfortable mid-table league place.
The club were able to plough the financial windfall from the FA Trophy run back into the infrastructure at Privett Park. During the summer of 2014, a number of improvements were made including the installation of a new hospitality suite/club office building and a state-of-the-art pitch irrigation system.
OUR VISITORS HISTORY
A solid start to the 2014/15 league season saw Boro well placed in the league. The confidence gained from the league campaign helped the club finally make the First Round Proper of the FA Cup for the first time. Boro hosted Colchester United of League One in a tie that attracted over 2,000. Gosport acquitted themselves well in a memorable match, but ultimately lost to the Football League side 6-3.
Boro were well placed for a play-off place until a little wobble in March saw them drop just too far off the pace- eventually finishing sixth. But the club did have the consolation of lifting the Hampshire Senior Cup for the first time since 1988 and seeing Justin Bennett pick up the award for the Conference South's leading goal-scorer.
The 2015-16 season got off to a good start, with the club pushing into play-off contention from the off. But as the New Year came, the club were hit with financial problems. But the campaign did at least end on a high with a 2-1 win against AFC Portchester in the Russell Coates Cup Final, with talismanic striker Justin Bennett recording his 262nd and 263rd goals for Gosport.
In 2016-17 Boro were relegated and former Portsmouth FC Chairman Iain McInnes took control of the club with Ray Stainton (formerly Chief Executive at Pompey) joining Boro as Chief Executive Officer. Lee Molyneax
was appointed as first team Manager on 10th May 2019, assisted by Ben Kneller & Kevin Braybrook.

“MALDON & TIPTREE??” a friend of mine questioned when sifting through the FA Cup first round fixtures last Sunday. “Who on earth are they?” (or words to that effect).
Queries such as this are actually quite common place for the Non-League Paper news team, mainly from those who don't believe in life outside the Premier League.
Once again, I had underestimated the magic of the FA Cup – but isn't that what we just love about this competition? How does little Maldon & Tiptree, of Isthmian League Division One North actually turn up at Brisbane Road wearing a Barcelona-style kit and beat a team four leagues above them in the Pyramid playing like...well, Barcelona?
So, on the day when Liverpool and Manchester City were locking horns in the top echelons of English football, it was perhaps fitting that the Maldon & Tiptrees of this world were enjoying their 15 minutes of fame.
For anyone who thinks I'm exaggerating,
Now one thing I must also confess is that when asked my “expert” opinion of all things Non-League whether Maldon & Tiptree could actually go to National League champions Leyton Orient and beat them in their own back yard, I told them to keep their money in their pocket! What do I know anyway?!
Earlier, Dover Athletic enjoyed their big day in front of the BT Sport cameras by beating League One Southend United at Crabble. It set us up nicely for a Sunday Funday where Bromley held Bristol Rovers to a 1-1 draw and Altrincham stunned their league's leaders York City to earn a mouth-watering away tie at Portsmouth, FA Cup winners of course just 12 years ago under Harry Redknapp.
So, with no fewer than 15 clubs left in the competition before next week's first round replays – including another Step 4 side Chichester City, who were rewarded with an away tie at either Tranmere Rovers or Wycombe Wanderers after receiving a first-round bye – the magic of the FA Cup will no doubt return come November 30.
take a look at Jorome Slew's fine solo winner in front of the ecstatic Jammers fans behind the goal? Jammy it was most certainly not.
And it wasn't just Maldon & Tiptree who conjured up their bit of magic at the weekend. At the same time, Kingstonian were putting a thrown-together crisis club Macclesfield side to the sword at Moss Rose to earn a second round tie with AFC Fylde and ensure there will be at least one Non-League club at the third round stage.
Hopefully, by then, the Premier League ignoramuses might actually have an idea who to put their money on!
MILLIE SMITH
Millie Smith has been playing football since she was 5 years old (she is now 10). She played for her school team (St James' First School) for 4 years and now plays for St Michael's Middle School, year 6 girls team in Colehill.
She plays at the mixed Saturday pay and play sessions at Wimborne Town Football club and also was a founding member of the Wimborne Town girls football team and has played with them for 16 months, since they were first established.
Millie has wanted to be a professional footballer since she was 5 years old and dreams of playing for Liverpool FC. She is football obsessed!
She has been a member of the junior reds for two years and won a competition to be a matchday mascot for the Liverpool vs Arsenal Carabao cup match. Liverpool FC sent her a full match kit to wear and she had the most amazing time!
Millie Hope's the next time she runs out onto the Anfield pitch, it will be as a player for Liverpool FC women's team.
She got to meet the team, high fived Jurgen Klopp and walked out with Harvey Elliott, the youngest ever player for Liverpool FC (he is 16 years old) on his Anfield debut. She said the sound of the 56,000 fans as she walked out the tunnel was incredible!
The match was very exciting, finishing 5-5, with Liverpool winning on a penalty shoot out, making a total of 19 goals scored in one match!
Playing against the strong wind sweeping down the ground towards the Hospital end, the Magpies started brightly. In the 3rd minute, Luke Burbidge played Young through on the right to cause panic in the visitors’ defence. He did the same two minutes later, but the winger’s low cross found no taker. On 8 minutes Burbidge found Bayston behind the Yate defence, again on the right. His fierce cross-shot was spectacularly saved by Yate stopper Adam Forster.
Wimborne Town 2-0 Yate Town(Lee 66′ 72′)Att: 235
Saturday 2nd NovemberSouthern League Premier Division South
After a fairly forgettable first forty-five, Wimborne deservedly took the points through two headed goals by Tony Lee in a six-minute period midway through the second half.
Manager Danny Holmes brought Paddy Hester, Carl Pettefer, Connor Doe, Curtis Young and Sam Bayston into his starting XI following Tuesday’s FA Trophy defeat at Taunton.
But then the visitors came into the game and had the better of the rest of the half. From the left, Nicholas Peare flashed a cross into the goal-area on 24 minutes; Luke Spokes’ shot from a quick turn was grabbed at the second attempt by Cameron Plain; Peare’s 30 yard wind-assisted drive whistled over the bar; all before, on 33 minutes, Yate had their best chance of the half. Joe Guest’s shot was half-saved before Louis Britton smashed the
RECENT MATCH REPORTS
This wasn’t a game to thrill football purists, but both teams deserve credit for battling against difficult conditions. This much-needed win lifts Wimborne to 12th in the table.
Unused Subs: Stokoe, Gunstone-Grey, Roberts, Byrne, Penny
After Young’s volley went over the bar, and Burbidge went down under a challenge in the area, Wimborne’s double-act scored a second just six minutes after the first. This time, typical Burbidge trickery on the right by-line ended with him popping up a cross, and the centre-forward bravely forced himself between defender and keeper to head home.
Wimborne Town: Plain, Hester, Maybury, Davidson, Poole, Pettefer (Penny 58′), Doe, Young, Lee 66′ 72′, Burbidge, Bayston (Roberts 85′)
Paddy Hester’s drive from distance, Billy Maybury’s free-kick, and a long-range Burbidge header from Plain’s clearance then threatened Forster’s goal as the Magpies sought a third. But with skipper Maybury mopping up in mid-field with decisive tackles, interceptions, and clever positional play, Wimborne snuffed out Yate’s attempts at a comeback, to ensure all three points stayed in Dorset.
rebound over the bar.
Despite Yate’s 12 attempts on goal in the first period, 5 on target, Wimborne successfully achieved their first aim of the afternoon, reaching the interval without conceding.
The visitors had the first attack of the second period, Spokes coming in from the right to shoot tamely at Plain’s goal. Shortly after, the young keeper showed assured footwork to twice beat onrushing forwards.
But most of the play was towards the Yate goal. Young had a shot blocked, and Lee was just beaten to the ball in a footrace by Forster. Wimborne were dominating possession, but, in the difficult conditions, the quality of the final pass was lacking. However, that was to change just before the mid-point of the half. Clever inter-play down the right between Bayston, Luke Burbidge and substitute Stefan Penny enabled Burbidge to cross from the right for Lee to head beyond Forster to open the scoring.

Tracey has just started her new job at the ferry checkpoint and proudly wears her brand new uniform. Five Blokes in an Audi Quattro arrive and she stops them , and tells them: "I can't let you on the ferry. It is illegal to have 5 people in a Quattro. Quattro means four. One of you will have to get out and stay behind.""Quattro is just the name of the car," the driver replies in disbelief "Look at the papers, this car is designed to carry five persons."
Gosport is a town in Hampshire on the south coast of the England. At the 2011 Census, its population was 82,622. It is situated on a peninsula on the western side of Portsmouth Harbour, opposite the city of Portsmouth, to which it is linked by the Gosport Ferry. Gosport was a major naval town associated with the defence and supply infrastructure of Her Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Portsmouth. Gosport is 49 miles from Wimborne Minster.
The Royal Naval Submarine Museum has exhibits including Holland 1– the Royal Navy's first submarine and the Second World War submarine HMS Alliance [ Some of you may know one of my former job's was as a Submarine Window Cleaner] 'Explosion' is a modern interactive museum and tells the story of naval firepower from gunpowder to modern missiles.
Gosport is believed to derive its name from "goose". An alternative etymology of "gorse" (from the bushes growing on local heathland) is not supported by the regional name for the plant, "furze". A third theory, claiming a derivation from "God's Port" is believed to be a 19th-century invention.
"You cannot pull that one on me. This is Tracey you're talking to here," she replies with a smile. "Quattro means four. You have five people in your car and you are therefore breaking the law. So I can't let you onto the ferry. It's more than my job's worth to let you all on."The driver gets irate and replies angrily, “I've had enough of you. Call your supervisor over. I want to speak to someone with more intelligence!"“Sorry," responds Tracey, "but Sharon is busy over there with those two blokes in the Fiat Uno."
