Dale Dennis Citizenship Award The Dale Dennis Citizenship Award recognizes a student who exemplifies citizenship, community and school service, scholarship and

Kansas State Curriculum Completers & Scholars The following 44 graduating seniors are being recognized as Kansas Board of Regents State Curriculum Completers. To earn this

distinction, the students completed the most rigorous curriculum option which included physics, foreign language, and an additional math credit.

Kansas State Scholar is a designation given to students who have completed the curriculum and excelled in GPA and ACT score. For this

graduating class, the average GPA was a 3.93 with an ACT of 30. The MSHS Kansas State Scholars are identified with an asterisk (*).

Kansas Academy of Math and Science The Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science (KAMS) is the state's premier early college program for high school juniors and seniors. The Academy was established by legislative action in 2006 by SB139 and is designed to promote STEM education. KAMS is a residential

learning experience that provides exceptional high school students a potent blend of college-level instruction by Ph.D.-level faculty, hands-on research & travel experiences with Ph.D.-level faculty, leadership development and civic engagement opportunities, co-curricular

and extra-curricular opportunities to develop the whole student, a high school diploma and over 60 hours of college credit, and an opportunity to earn a FHSU Associate's degree. Our KAMS completer is:

PSAT/National Merit Award Finalist About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.

The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. Previous National Merit Scholars include Elena Kagan and John Roberts (Justice of the

Supreme Court), Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft) and Jeffrey Bezos (CEO of Amazon). Maize South High School is proud to announce it 7th National Merit Semifinalist:

Senior Academic Letters Academic Letters are based upon at least three consecutive semesters of work, with two of the three semesters being completed at a USD 266 high school. An academic letter is awarded to a student who has earned at least a 3.5 GPA for each of the consecutive semesters. A

Scholarships Shelley Woodard Poynter Memorial Scholarship

The Shelley Woodard Poynter Memorial Scholarship was established in 2012 by AC Poynter, family, and friends to recognize Shelley’s life long dedication to the Maize community and to showcase her story of persistence and grit.. The recipients are selected on the basis of

academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, and an essay on perseverance.

Kyle Thornburg Art/Architecture Scholarship The Kyle Thornburg Scholarship was set up to remember and honor Kyle, who lost his life in a car wreck involving a drunk driver. Since the accident, there has been an annual 5k run/walk memorial event called Run2Believe which is held in Maize to honor Kyle and Kylie Jobe, who was also killed in the accident. Each year, one $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a senior who plans to pursue a career in Art, Architecture, or other visual arts and design fields, which Kyle planned to pursue.

Holmberg Leadership Scholarship Dr. Greg Holmberg established this scholarship for a Maize South High School senior student who intends to further their education and who exhibits leadership attributes. Students were required to write an essay that defined how they currently lead among peers and to

discuss their future goals and how they plan to better their community/world.

Student of Distinguished Character Pizza Hut Scholarship The Pizza Hut Student of Distinguished Character Scholarship is given to a Maize South High senior student who exhibits distinguished

character. In an essay, students discussed their definition of character, how they exemplify it through leadership, activities, and service to others.

Maize Educational Foundation Legacy Foundation Scholarship The Maize Education Foundation Legacy Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors who demonstrate the core values of the

Foundation and have shown innovation and creativity in defining their version of success and a tenacious drive to achieve that success in spite of obstacles that may appear in their path.

Scholarships are available to students who plan to pursue additional training and/or education in pursuit of their goals. Those plans may
