1.0 Introduction
Mono Centre Brewing Company Ltd. (Client) retained Cambium Inc. (Cambium) to complete a
pumping test at 388113 Mono Centre Road, Orangeville (hereafter referred to as the Site).
The Client proposes to construct a micro-brewery at the Site that will require an estimated
7,050 L of water for daily operations. The purpose of the pumping test was to determine if the
existing on-site supply well can sustainably provide water for the proposed development while
ensuring that there is no influence on neighboring water supply wells.
1.1 Site Description
The Site is approximately 21.5 hectares (ha) and is rectangular in shape. At present, the Site
exists as rural/forested land with one dwelling located on the property.
The topography of the Site is flat to hummocky, with the highest point being located centrally in
the property. Topography at the Site generally slopes to the northeast. The Site is bound to the
south by Mono Centre Road and to the east by 5 Line East. Rural and rural residential land
use is adjacent to the Site on all sides. Surface water mapping indicates that the headwaters of
a small watercourse are found in the northeastern corner of the Site which flows northward.
The Site boundaries have been outlined on Figure 1.
The dwelling is provided potable water by a private supply well and an on-site wastewater
treatment system. The proposed micro-brewery will involve construction of a new building at
the Site. The existing dwelling will remain on-site as part of the proposed development. The
combined daily water demand of the dwelling and the proposed micro-brewery operations is
7,050 L/day (as indicated by the Client).

2.0 Methodology
Cambium completed a preliminary hydrogeological assessment of the Site (Cambium Inc.,
2020) prior to the pumping test outlined herein. The preliminary hydrogeological assessment
included a Site visit and a well investigation. During the investigation the wellhead of the on-
site supply well was observed to be installed in a well pit and covered with insulating foam.
Due to these conditions the well could not be safely accessed for further investigation. It was
recommended that the wellhead of the on-site supply well be extended and brought into
compliance with Ontario Regulation 903. On August 20, 2020 the Client retained the services
of licenced well contractor to make the recommended improvements to the on-site supply well.
Water from the well is treated with a softener prior to consumption. To complete the pumping
test the existing plumbing and pump were utilized. Water was discharged from a tap that is
offline from any form of treatment (i.e., a raw water tap). The water level of the supply well was
monitored continuously during the pumping test using a pressure transducer level logger
device. Water was disposed to ground surface north of the existing dwelling.
Within the final hour of the pumping test a water sample was collected for those parameters
outlined in Tables 1, 2 and 3 of Guideline D-5-5 (Ministry of the Environment, 1996). The
groundwater sample was analyzed at Caduceon Laboratories. The certificate of analysis is
attached in Appendix A.
2.1 Water Well Records
According to the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) Water Well
Information System (WWIS) mapping there are 13 water well records located within
approximately 500 m of the Site boundaries.
Of the 13 water well records, 11 detailed the installation of drilled wells, 1 detailed the
installation of a bored/dug well and 1 detailed the abandonment of a well.
The stratigraphy information provided in the well records indicates that the overburden
generally consisted of coarse grained sediments; however there were regular occurrences of

fine grained (silt and clay) lenses at depth. All of the drilled wells were installed in shale
bedrock. The following conclusions were drawn from a review of the water well records:
The depth of overburden ranged between 18.60 mbgs and 70.12 mbgs (average of
37.47 mbgs).
The total depth of the drilled wells varied between 44.21 mbgs and 127.44 mbgs
(average of 77.11 mbgs).
Groundwater within the shale bedrock was encountered between the depths of 21.34
mbgs and 96.04 mbgs (average 53.81 mbgs).
Static water levels reported from the drilled wells ranged between depths of 10.67 mbgs
and 36.59 mbgs (average 22.64 mbgs).
The recommended flow rate of the drilled wells ranged from 0.5 gallons per minute
(gpm) to 10 gpm (average of 3.68 gpm (approximately 11 L/min)).
These data indicate that there is a bedrock aquifer in the area that can produce a reasonably
reliable source of water. A map of the water well records within 500 m of the Site is attached
as Figure 2.
Letters requesting permission to investigate and monitor private, off-site, supply wells during
the pumping test were sent to six adjacent properties. Three adjacent property owners
responded to the letter, and their supply wells were monitored during the pumping test. See
Table 1 for more information. The location of the private supply wells included in the
assessment are outlined on Figure 2. A copy of the letter distributed to the adjacent property
owners is attached in Appendix B.
Well tags were recorded at each of the monitoring wells. The well record for on-site supply well
was assumed based upon its location in the MECP WWIS. The well records indicate that all
the wells are installed in shale bedrock. The well record numbers are outlined in Table 2. Well
records of the supply well (inferred from well details and mapped location) and monitoring
wells (confirmed by well tags) are attached in Appendix C.

To complete the pumping test, water was discharged through a raw water tap and allowed to
flow at that maximum possible rate. The pumping test commenced at 08:14 and was
completed for a total of 392 minutes (finishing at 14:46). The average discharge rate achieved
during the pumping test was 18 L/minute, which equates to a total of approximately 7,056 L of
water withdrawn from the well. The water level in the on-site supply well lowered continuously
during the pumping test to a maximum water level of 30.88 mtop (a drawdown of 17.34 m).
After water withdrawal ceased the water level recovered to 13.89 mtop (98% of static
conditions) by 08:14 on August 26, 2020.
The drawdown curve developed a sawtooth pattern during the pumping test. This pattern was
caused by inline pressure tank constantly filling and draining during the pumping test. The
presence of the pressure tank does not influence the interpretation of the results discussed
herein, and reflects the actual usage or pumping cycles anticipated at maximum demand from
the proposed development.
The specific capacity of the well is estimated from the overall drawdown and the pumping rate
and provides an indication of the wells response to pumping and potential yield. The specific
capacity of the well is 1.04 Litres/min/meter. The pumping level at the end of the test provided
up to an additional 20 meters of drawdown (depending on pump intake level) and as such has
a theoretical capacity of an additional ~20L/minute, or 38L/minute in total.

The water level measurements recorded from the wells at 388087 and 388128 Mono Centre
Road did not report an influence from water withdrawal at the on-site supply well. The water
level measurements recorded from the well at 388114 Mono Centre Road indicate that there
were several instances of water withdrawal from this well during the day. An influence of water
withdrawal (from the on-site supply well) on this well cannot be conclusively determined.
Considering the absence of an influence reported from the other two monitoring wells, an
influence of water withdrawal on this well is unlikely. Water level fluctuations measured during
the pumping test are outlined in Figure 3.
3.1 Groundwater Quality
The concentration of total coliform (6 cfu/100ml) was reported greater than the Ontario
Drinking Water Quality Standards (ODWQS) (Ministry of Environment, 2006) of 0 cfu/100ml. In
addition, the concentration of hardness (132 mg/L) was reported greater than ODWQS criteria
of 100 mg/L. All other parameters were reported at concentrations less than ODWQS criteria.
The certificate of analysis is attached in Appendix A.
Total coliform can be introduced into well water by several sources (existing
plumbing/treatment equipment, or the recent wellhead upgrades are potential sources) and is
typically associated with bacteria in the well and not a representation of aquifer water quality.
Cambium recommends that the well be disinfected and a follow-up sample collected from the
well to verify the concentration of total coliform in the aquifer. Treatment for total coliform
should be installed as needed.
A water softening system is already present at the Site, as such the elevated concentration of
hardness is already being addressed.
The water provided to the proposed brewery can be treated prior to use as per the influent
water quality requirements for the brewery.

4.0 Discussion
The results of the pumping test indicate that the on-site supply well can provide the estimated
daily water demand rate of 7,050 L/day. The water level in the on-site supply well recovered to
98% of static water level conditions within a 24 hour period, as such the anticipated daily water
withdrawal is considered sustainable. Considering the available drawdown (37.5 m) and the
specific capacity (1.04 L/min/m), the well has a theoretical yield of 38L/minute, given the
maximum daily demand of 7,050 L/day, the demand could be supplied in 185 minutes. This
assumes the well can be pumped to its full depth and should be adjusted to reflect the actual
pump intake level, should the maximum theoretical yield be required. Where batch filling /
demand is required in excess of 38L/minute, storage may be required to extend the pumping
time from the well while allowing a faster pumping rate from storage.
There were well tags affixed to each of the monitoring wells. The well record for the on-site
supply well is the assumed record. All of the monitoring wells and the supply well are installed
in shale bedrock (at depths ranging between approximately 51 m below ground surface (mbgs)
and 84 mbgs). The supply well and the monitoring wells are all installed in water bearing units
that are considered hydraulically connected.
The water withdrawal from the on-site supply well did not have a measureable influence on
any of the adjacent private supply wells that were included in this assessment.
It is noted that water was withdrawn from the well that services 388114 Mono Centre Road by
the owner during the day of testing. Water withdrawal events from this well were recorded in
the water level response data. Withdrawal events resulted in an immediate lowering of the
water level followed by a rapid water level recovery. The potential influence of water
withdrawal from the on-site supply well (or lack thereof) on the well that services 388114 Mono
Centre Road cannot be determined. Due to the lack of influence that water withdrawal induced
on the wells that service 388087 and 388128 Mono Centre Road, the potential influence that
water withdrawal from the on-site supply well will induce on the well that services 388114
Mono Centre Road is considered negligible.

Cambium Inc. Page 8
The potential influence that water withdrawal of the proposed brewery will induce on those
private supply wells located adjacent the Site that were not monitored as part of this
assessment (or any other proximal supply wells) is considered negligible.
The results of the pumping test, estimated well yield, recovery, and the projected water
consumption rates indicate that the proposed development can be adequately serviced with
the on-site supply well and will not negatively influence adjacent groundwater supplies.
