7 Jun 2019 STAGE 1: Nomination process ‐ expression of interest submission closes
Late June 2019 Shortlisted students will be required to undergo a police check as part of NCP Scholarship Nomination process organised by Curtin Scholarships Office.
12 July 2019 Nomination process – outcome available. Curtin nominates up to 10 students to the NCP program
16 July 2019 Nominated students receive application guide and an invitation to complete online application at NCP website
Referees receive guide and an invitation to complete online referee repots at NCP website
14 Aug 2019 Applications close at 11.30pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST)

All the information you supply is complete and accurate
All the required supporting documentation is attached with your expression of interest – refer documentation and application
checklist at the end of the expression of interest form
Please note:
Shortlisted students will be required to undergo a police check organised by Curtin Scholarships Office in late June to early July
as part of NCP Scholarship Nomination process.
The outcome of the nomination process will be available via Official Communication Chanel on 12 July 2019.
The nominated students will receive application guide and an invitation to complete online application at NCP website on 16 July
2019.

8 Please address the following criteria in preparing your submission for the New Colombo Plan Scholarship Program.
The following are the selection criteria against which you will be assessed, including your relative weighting. You should address
each criterion and limit your responses to 300 words per criterion. Please use the guidance in italics to draft your response to
each criterion.
Academic excellence at the tertiary level (40 per cent weighting) (Max 300 words)
Assessment of this criterion will relate to a) the applicant’s graded average achieved in tertiary studies, and b) to ungraded
academic achievements, such as academic awards and commendations, VC’s list, publications, or other examples of academic
excellence at the tertiary level. The applicant’s communication skills, higher‐order cognitive and critical thinking skills, and
engagement in learning will also be assessed. High School academic achievements will not be considered.
Leadership in the community (30 per cent weighting) (Max 300 words)
Assessment of this criterion will relate to the applicant’s demonstrated examples of leadership in the community as well as an
active engagement in the community, including volunteer and not‐for‐profit roles and/or activities they have undertaken in
their local community, nationally, overseas and/or in your university. (For example, student residence committees, student
clubs, politics, sporting, religious, arts organisations, student ambassadors, etc.) This section is not limited at the tertiary level.
You must articulate how you demonstrated leadership skills and why you are passionate about engagement in the community.
Adaptability and resilience (15 per cent weighting) (Max 300 words)
Assessment of this criterion will relate to the applicant’s potential to adapt to change, thrive in a foreign environment, and
demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges. This section is not limited at the tertiary level. You must include concrete
examples of these qualities, and strategies employed to manage adversity/set‐backs, and an understanding of what it means to
deal with change, or operate in a foreign environment. Applicants who have never travelled overseas before can provided
strong responses to this criterion by discussing challenges or changes they have faced in Australia. (For examples, student
relocated from regional/rural area of Australia, etc.)
Ability to contribute to New Colombo Plan goals (15 per cent weighting) (Max 300 words)
Assessment of this criterion will relate to the applicant’s understanding of New Colombo Plan objectives, and how the applicant
and their proposed Scholarship Program would help support the New Colombo Plan goals. You must articulate how you will
benefit the NCP goals and objectives over time and as an Alumnus.

9 Please attach two referee letters, with at least one academic referee. Each letter must be a one page reference from a lecturer,

internship I mentorship and in‐country language training, as applicable.
o If you are proposing to study a research based honours program overseas you must be supervised by an academic
from the host institution. You should discuss this arrangement and the benefits of undertaking your research program
at your chosen host location.

2. I understand the scholarship may be cancelled if it is proven that I was offered a scholarship based on false or misleading
information or documentation.
3. I authorise Curtin to obtain from other educational institutions and relevant authorities, at any time, details of my enrolment and
academic record.
4. I consent my personal details, enrolment and academic record will be provided to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
(DFAT) and Education as part of the nomination process.
5. If short‐listed for nomination, I confirm that I will lodge the online National Police Check request and give my consent for Curtin
University to receive a police check certificate and forward any findings to DFAT and Education as part of the nomination process.
6. I consent to Curtin using my personal information supplied for the following purposes:
(a) for Curtin Scholarships Office staff and selection committee members (which includes representative(s) of the
external sponsor, if any, and Curtin staff) to make the scholarship selection;
(b) for the administration of the scholarship;
(c) for Curtin’s general administrative purposes which includes communications involving surveys, the availability of
