Habitat for Humanity Women Build 2020 Fundraiser!
Give Local. Build Local. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that everyone should have a decent, safe, and affordable home to live in. We bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Our Women Build Fundraiser provides the opportunity for women & men to take a proactive step in helping other women improve their living situations. Our future homeowners are largely comprised of women and children whose living conditions may be unsafe, unhealthy, unaffordable, or over-crowded. Women Build is a unique opportunity for you to make a difference in the lives of Berkshire County families.
Nationwide: more than 60% of Habitat homeowners are
female heads of household.
In Berkshire County: 37% of children live in single parent
households. As homeowners complete sweat equity hours and receive construction training, the women gain the skills and confidence to maintain their homes. Substandard housing is a threat to children’s health, growth, and potential. By providing simple and decent homes, these families have an opportunity to thrive. All money raised during this event will support the building of our Habitat homes in Berkshire County.
As a Team Leader, Participant, Sponsor, you will inspire and motivate other like-minded women and men to pick up a hammer and/or get involved to create positive change in our communities.
You will all learn some construction techniques, team building skills, and have lots of fun along the way! If you aren’t the person who likes to get dirty, just form a team, recruit volunteers or help with sponsorships and fundraising!
This packet will give you some ideas for recruiting and energizing others, as well as tips for making your fundraising efforts a success in support of Habitat’s mission to provide a safe, decent place for all children in Berkshire County to rest their heads at night.

Team Leader Role: You are the point of contact between your team & your Habitat Women Build Coordinator. You are critical in making Women Build a success.
Here is how YOU can help families realize their dream of homeownership & change a future!
Team Leader- PLEASE FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
1. Recruit a Team Invite friends, family, colleagues, service club members, or anyone you know to join
your team. Spots fill quickly as Women Build is a popular event! Customize the email Recruitment
Invitation example (see page 3) to invite women to build on your day. Men are always welcome to
support a team. (Minimum 6 people Maximum 10) 2. Make a MASTER team participant list Send a first & last names only master list to your Women Build
Coordinator.
3. Book your day Call your Women Build Coordinator to find out which day & time is available that will
work for your team. (* SEPTEMBER 12- DECEMBER 19, 2020)
4. Fundraise Be sure that everyone you recruit as a builder understands that our hope is to have each
builder be responsible for raising donations of a $100 minimum gift before your scheduled build day. This money helps fund our Women Build and provide opportunities for hands-on learning, and given these tools, women can succeed in changing their communities. Donors can find a copy of the PLEDGE DONATION FORM in this tool kit. Please ask your Women Build Coordinator for a 2 sided E-version form
Interact Send encouraging reminders along the way to make sure people are still committed to build and fundraise. Offer to help your friends in their fundraising. Be sure to share ideas with everyone on your team. Stay in touch Check in with your team regularly to see how your team fundraising efforts are progressing. Go above your minimum goal Although $100 is the minimum required to participate in the Build, many Teams set goals beyond the required minimum. Every dollar counts! Every dollar makes a difference! Finalize any last minute details with your Women Build Coordinator. Build Day be sure to communicate to your Team about where to go and what time you are scheduled to start.

Fundraising Participant Responsibilities
Fundraising is easy and fun when you are supporting a great cause
FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
Step 1: Get your Team together OR raise money as an individual!
Call a few friends and family, get everyone on board for raising money and coming together to build a Habitat house. You don’t need any experience or knowledge. We have the tools and equipment you will need and skilled Habitat Crew Leaders
to teach about the work you will be doing the day of your scheduled build.
Step 2: Start raising money Set up your fundraising plans and get started spreading the word!
(see pages 4 & 5 for ideas!) It’s easy as pie, just ask your friends, family, and co-workers in person, on
social media or by email for support.
Step 3: Let’s have Lunch!
Usually - As a thank you, we ask that each team provide lunch for all volunteers involved. *However, this year – due to the pandemic and in an effort to keep everyone as safe as possible, we are asking that each person bring their own
brown bag lunch. We will provide bottled water.
Step 4: Get ready to build! Your Women Build Coordinator will take you through the steps of what to expect next. Your team will learn many different aspects of the building process, like framing, siding,
sheet rocking, porch construction, using power tools and more!
No experience needed! We supply everything you will need on the job site, but we encourage anyone who already has these items to bring them on your build day.
Close-toed shoes, Gloves, Pencil, Tape measure, Utility knife, Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Tool belt. Please be sure all items have your name clearly marked.
*Please note that volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer on site.
Volunteers ages 16-17 must have parental consent and supervision.

Get your team passionate about Habitat’s mission and get them pumped
to spend the day working in construction with perks of pampering!
Women Build is EMPOWERING!
Begin by thinking of groups you are involved in that might like to be invited to the build: Perhaps you are part of a women’s group, church group, service club, or professional association – those are good places to begin your list.
Host a House Party: Have your potential team members over to your house for a party. A representative from Habitat is available to make a brief presentation about Women Build, answer questions, and help get your team members registered. Women Build at Work: If you are recruiting team members from your place of work, a representative from Habitat is available to come to your work place and make a brief presentation about Women Build, answer questions and get your team members registered.
Make your list as broad as possible: Your target is to sign up a group of friends and/or family who are committed to donating or raising money for Women Build. Include each of your friends, and encourage them to invite their other friends. Use this as an opportunity to make new friends!
Sample Email Recruitment Invitation
Hello friends and family,
I’d love to have you join me for Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build 2020! This event will bring women/men together for a day of construction in support of hard-working families. No construction experience is necessary and all tools and safety items are supplied. Crew Leaders from Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity will teach us what we need to know. And more importantly, this day will change your life…I promise! As a team leader, I am reaching out to see if you will be one of the “builders” on my team. Each woman/man is asked to raise a minimum of $100 to help change a life! I am really excited to participate and I hope you can join my team! If you’re not able to participate, you can make a donation to our team. Your donation is 100% tax deductible and supports the mission of Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity “to build homes, communities and hope.” Did you know that all of your money supports local families? Central Berkshire Habitat gives families a hand up, not a hand out. That means families become stable, children do better in school and parents do better at work. Then, they reach out to the community and help others. That’s the way to change the world. Will you join me?

Writing letters, sending a personal email and a quick phone call are all proven, successful fundraising methods.
When asking for donations, remember these helpful tips:
Ask everyone you know to donate, join your team, or start a team of their own. Send your fundraising letter to your holiday card list, business and net-working contacts, company vendors – everyone! Do you use Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/LinkedIn?
Be sure to promote your fundraising efforts on those sites. Consider planning one (or more) of the following as you create a fundraising plan for your team, successful fundraising events to help your team reach its goal. (Work with your executive leadership to
secure approval for all company fundraising activities.)
Plan a Dress-Down Day/Casual Fridays/Spirit Day Steps to success:
Dress-Down Fridays will be offered on (list specific days.) Participants will pay $5 on those days to dress casually/in favorite sports team apparel, etc. Participants will turn in funds to their Team Leader. The event will be promoted via email the week before each Dress-Down Friday.
Use Incentives to Encourage Team Registration and Fundraising Steps to success:

The CEO parking space for a month to the team member who raises the most funds that month Lunch with the CEO for the first three team members who raise $500 A day off (with pay!) for the top team fundraiser at the end of the campaign.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if someone on my list would like to participate, but cannot come on my assigned day? That’s just fine. We have alternate days available. Call Dawn at 413-442-3181 to schedule another day. What if someone can only stay half the day? We strongly encourage participants to stay the entire day as they will feel a greater sense of accomplishment and take part in all the fun the day has to offer, but we do understand if some schedules do not permit staying to the end time. I have more or less than 10 people who want to come. What do I do now? Check with Dawn at 413-442-3181. What does Habitat for Humanity do with the funds raised? Habitat uses the funds to advance our mission of building homes, communities and hope. What if someone wants to make a general donation to help out our team? Wonderful! Add that donor to your Pledge Donation Form, collect their donation or direct them to our PO Box or secure site. If my team members receive donations in the form of cash or checks, what should they do? While the online donation tool is handy, cash and checks are welcome, too! Just have your team members keep track of donations on their Pledge Donation Form. Donations should be sent or dropped off to Habitat for Humanity prior to your build day. All checks should be made out to Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity PO Box 2717, Pittsfield MA 01202. How will my supporters be recognized? Habitat will send a thank you letter to each person who supports you financially, provided you fill out their information. Don’t forget to share pictures of your team working and send to your supporters.

Organize a Bake Sale Steps to success:
The sale will be held on (specific day and location) Create a list of potential bakers and enlist their support Recruit volunteers to take shifts throughout the day The event will be promoted to all employees by email and flyers on each floor the week before the sale
Send Out a Vendor Letter Steps to success:
Compile a list of all company vendors, such as janitorial services, food services, tech support, building management, insurance carrier, and legal services. Write the letter. A sample vendor letter is available. Follow up! Contact your vendors by phone and/or email to encourage them to donate to your team.
Organize a Tournament Over Lunch Steps to success:
The tournament will be held on (specific day, time, and location). Charge $15 per person to participate. Solicit local businesses for prizes. The event will be promoted for two weeks before the tournament by inter-company memo, email, and morning announcements.
Host a Party Plan a spaghetti dinner/pancake breakfast/block party/tournament, etc. Steps to success:
Invite your family and friends. Ask for a flat donation at the door.
Organize a Neighborhood Garage/Yard Sale A great way to clean out the house and raise big bucks for Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity. Steps to success:
Invite neighbors to participate. More families = more funds raised. Promote the event in your local newspaper and with flyers throughout your community.
Fundraise at Your Child’s School Organize a Dress-Down Day, Favorite Sports Team Day, or a bake sale. Steps to success:
Work with your child’s teachers and principal.
Plan a Weekend Car Wash Host a car wash on your block, or ask a local religious group or business to use its parking lot for the weekend. Steps to success:
Charge a flat rate for cars, trucks and the dirtiest vehicles.
Recruit your family and friends to help post flyers and signs throughout your community.
