4. Eligibility◾ 1st year students & 2nd and 3rd year transfer students

Category Eligibility

Nationality

Foreign applicants whose parents are both citizens of countries other than Republic of Korea and who meet the following requirements: - Before the applicants began high school, the applicants and their parents must have

acquired the foreign citizenship - Applicants who possessed dual citizenship must show proof of applicants and their

parents having renounced their Korean citizenship

Academic Requirements

1st year Applicants must be high school graduates or be expected to graduate high school

2nd year

For applicants who wish to transfer to the 2nd year - Applicants must have completed secondary education and at least one

full year in a degree program at a four-year university or have graduated from a 2 or 3-year program at an accredited college.

- Criteria for 2nd year transfers : Applicants who have passed at least 1/4 of the credits necessary for graduating from a degree program at a four-year university

3rd year

For applicants who wish to transfer to the 3rd year - Applicants must have completed secondary education and at least two

full years in a degree program at a four-year university or have graduated from a 2 or 3-year program at an accredited college.

- Criteria for 3rd year transfers : Applicants who have passed at least 1/2 of the credits necessary for graduating from a degree program at a four-year university

June 16, 2021) 2) Certificate of YU TOPIK (YU TOPIK is the Korean test which is developed

by Yeungnam Univ.) 3) Completion of Level 3 or higher at Korean Language Centers at Korean

universities (Korean language ability interview is required.)

Completion refers to attaining the necessary GPA or academic proficiency as defined by the applicant s affiliated university. Applicants will need to confirm whether or not they have satisfied all the conditions before applying. Admission will be revoked for failure to meet all the above mentioned conditions.

- If applicants for [1] do not meet the language requirements, they may be conditionally admitted.

- However, such conditionally admitted students must complete a 'Korean language course' for at least 6 months at the Korean Language Institute of our university. You may complete the Korean language course at another institution recognized by Yeungnam University only if you are unable to enter Korea. After completing the course, students can enroll in undergraduate school the next semester if they satisfy the language requirements in [1].

- Conditionally admitted students can change their status of residence to study abroad (D-2) upon enrolling in undergraduate school.

- If legal stay in Korea is impossible due to change of status of residence or non-extension, admission may be canceled.

Those who have not passed the undergraduate new/transfer admission can be conditionally admitted if they wish.

Important notes for Documents 1. All submitted documents should be original copies and photo copies are only allowed

extenuating circumstances. If an applicant acquires admission through copied documents, he/she must submit the originals to Yeungnam University by the end of the final registration period.

2. If original documents are in foreign languages besides Korean(or English), applicants should submit the documents with their notarized translation in Korean(or in English). (E.g. High School Graduation Certificate (or expected graduation certificate), transcript, family registration, finance verification (certificate of employment or certificate of income)

3. If original documents are translated in Korean (or in English) by an organization other than the document issuing authority or a translation agency, a certificate of translation should be submitted. (Refer to Form 4 from Korean Immigration Office.)

4. Admitted applicants who are expecting to graduate, must submit a certificate of graduation to the International Students Services Office before the enrollment.

5. All academic records will be verified by the admission committee. In the event of false information being provided, admission will be revoked.

6. The admission committee may request additional documents for admission review.7. It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide documents which are free of errors. Once

submitted, the information cannot be changed. At any point in time, submitted documents (and their translations) which are found to contain false information will result in admission being revoked.

8. If the applicant s name differs on any of the submitted documents, a proof of identity issued by an applicant s native-country legislative agency must be submitted.

6. YU TOPIK A. Test Introduction - YU TOPIK is the Korean language ability test administered by the Korean Language Institute

of Yeungnam University. - Notification of the result : Unlike the official TOPIK which gives a level grade, the YU

TOPIK is graded as pass or fail. Students who receive a pass grade will meet the condition of admission.

- The test fee : KRW 55,000 - Students who have not received at least a TOPIK level 2 grade must take the YU TOPIK.

TOPIK Level 2 or lower requirements◾ - Admitted students without TOPIK score or with TOPIK Level 2 or lower must complete a Korean

Language course of 300 hours offered by Yeungnam University in the 1st academic year. 1◾ st Year Basic Curriculum for International Students(Required)

- International students admitted as freshmen must complete 1st Year Basic Curriculum for international Students. This must be completed prior to graduation.

- Curriculum information : Korean language courses, Korean culture and society related courses and other common required general education courses(About 33 credits in total) Students who completed a 12-year education(from elementary to high school) in Korea will be exempted from the 1st Year Basic Curriculum for international Students

International Students Insurance(Required)◾ - International students of Yeungnam University must sign up for insurance.(Approximately KRW

120,000 per year) - International students will be compulsorily subscribed to the local subscriber scheme of the

National Health Insurance from March, 2021 by the policy of Republic of Korea government.(Approximately KRW 60,000 per month)

- Members of National Health Insurance and other insurances must submit the proof of the insurance to the International Student Services Office during the orientation.

VISA◾ - VISA Issuance for applicants staying in Korea

Admitted applicants will apply for a change of VISA After the admission announcement, applicants who plan to travel abroad must first notify the Internatioanl Cooperation Team Office.

- VISA Issuance for applicants staying overseas The following documents will be sent to the admitted students

: Certificate of admission, University registration certificate, Certificate of tuition payment, etc Students must apply for a VISA at the Korean Embassy(or Consulate) by submitting

documents from Yeungnam University as well as others requested by the Korean Embassy. Each Korean Embassy may request different documents for issuing a VISA, contact your

local Embassy before applying for a VISA.Graduate Requirement◾

Admitted applicants who have not achieved a TOPIK level 4 or above at the time of admission must submit a certificate of TOPIK to graduate from the university.

Students majoring in Design&Art, Music, Physical Education, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Fiber System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information & Communication Engineering, Forest Resources, Landscape Architecture, Biotechnology, Food & Nutrition and Architecture must achieve a TOPIK Level 3 or higher before graduation.

Each department has their own conditions for graduation, Admitted applicants must confirm the information with their respective department office.

9. Important Notes for Applicants A. Once final registration at the University has been completed, admitted students can not apply

for other departments or other universities.

Applicant who is admitted by more than one university must enroll in only one university. In the event of violation, admission will be revoked.

B. Withdrawal of admission1) Applicants who wish to give up their admission after registration must fill in Withdrawal of

Admission form, obtained by visiting the International Cooperation Team during August, 2021. If done after the semester begins, refund will be according to the YU tuition refund regulation.

2) The admission could be cancelled if students fail to enter Korea the first quarter of 2021 Fall semester.

C. Application fee Refund 1) The applicant may choose either one of the following methods to obtain a refund: a) Refund to the applicant s bank account, as provided on the application form b) Visit Yeungnam University in person 2) If the applicant chooses the refund option (a), Yeungnam University will transfer the

application fee less any charges incurred from using the bank system.If the bank system charges are more than the application fee, there will be no refund.

D. Tuition Payment 1) Admission results will be posted on http://is.yu.ac.kr and admitted students must print out

the tuition fees invoice located on the website(http://is.yu.ac.kr) and pay the tuition. - Applicants staying in Korea : Pay to the bank account indicated on the tuition fees invoice. - Applicants staying overseas

3. Apostille Convention A. What is the Apostille?

1) The Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents is an international treaty drafted by the Hague Conference on Private International Law and has been effective in Korea since July 7, 2014.

2) It specifies the modalities through which a document issued in one of the signatory countries can be certified for legal purposes in all the other signatory states.

3) Such a certification that is called the apostille is an international certification comparable to a notarization in domestic law, and normally supplements a local notarization of the document.
