From the Head MasterSeptember 17, 2021

As this term draws to a close, I want to take the opportunity to express my thanks to the Trinity community. While the impact ofthe pandemic has been felt by our community in different ways, it has been a burden for all of us. Nonetheless, under thatburden I have observed our community demonstrating quiet resolve and mutual support for one another.

I want to pay tribute to our students. The experiences of our older students are obviously very different to those of the youngerones. We know that sustaining engagement with learning has been particularly challenging for some of our boys. However, italso appears that the majority of the boys are coping remarkably well in these adverse times. The long-term impact of anextended experience of remote learning and social isolation cannot be fully known, but I think we have some grounds foroptimism that the challenges will have some positive impacts in the formation of our boys’ character, dispositions andcapabilities.

Page 2: 2021 | Term 3 | Week 10

I also want to thank the parents and families of the School community for all that you have done to enable the boys to continuewith their education. The partnership between home and school that we often speak about has been forced to take new shapesduring this term. Parents have had more insight and input with reference to their son’s learning than has been the case formany decades; that shared experience is now part of your family’s story, with its memories, in-jokes, tensions and emergenttraditions. Thank you also for the encouragement and support that you have offered to members of the School team along theway.

I particularly want to acknowledge the efforts of our staff in both their teaching and their support roles. The professionalchallenges that they have faced, combined with the personal challenges that we have all experienced, have been substantial.Designing learning for the boys, providing feedback on progress, maintaining the personal connections that are so central tothe School experience, and managing all the other dimensions of their work has been demanding in the extreme. I amimmensely proud of them and their commitment to the boys of the School.

As this term comes to an end, the School is also hard at work planning for next term. The government has provided somedirection as to the anticipated return to school, but we are all conscious that our plans are provisional. I anticipate providingfamilies with a substantial guide to our approach to Term 4 at the end of the break. This document will provide answers to manyof the questions that are circulating in our minds and in the community about how face-to-face learning will resume in a COVID-safe way.

For the time being, the key messages are:

Term 4 will commence with remote learning and the arrangements that are currently in place. The School encourages all members of the community who are eligible for vaccination, which includes the boys who are12 years old or older, to act on the public health recommendations to be vaccinated.During the break, we should all make a priority of resting well, eating well, exercising well and connecting well with oneanother.

And, finally for the term, I bring you a blessing from the Bible, in Numbers 6:24-26.

May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn hisface toward you and give you peace.

Numbers 6:24-26

Detur gloria soli Deo.

From the Deputy Head Master – Summer HillSeptember 17, 2021

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to knowthe difference.

On behalf of the School, I would like to express my gratitude for your trust and encouragement over the course of this term. Itfeels to me that the School community has coped remarkably well with the restrictions and disruptions to the normalprogramming of events and routines, and the significant challenges posed by an extended and ongoing period of RemoteLearning. Your sons have been outstanding in their resilience and flexibility, and your support and patience has beenappreciated. Let us all hope that we will never again have to utter the words, “you are on mute”, in the very near future.

At this stage, and with what has become our customary caveat around advice from New South Wales Health, we hope to moveto the next stage of the return to attendance on Campus during Michaelmas Term. More information will be provided in the firstweeks after the break, but we hope to be in a position where your sons can begin to resume something resembling normalSchool life towards the end of October. It is likely to be a staggered return in the first instance, as we implemented in 2020, andthere is the added complication of the delay of the HSC examinations to consider, but I am optimistic that we will have boys andyoung men, and not just tumbleweeds and pigeons, on the Quad before the end of the year. Prizegiving ceremonies areplanned for Year 7-11 on Wednesday the 8th of December, by Year group, as we did last year. It is highly unlikely that thePublic Health Orders will allow parents on site, so these events will be streamed.

Year 12 are fast approaching the end of their secondary schooling, and I would like to take the opportunity to reiterate myencouragement to view the coming break as study leave rather than holidays. May I also encourage you to encourage yoursons to regulate their sleep over the holiday break. Eight hours of continuous and uninterrupted sleep is the general rule ofthumb, but it is especially important for Year 12 to be rested and fresh as they approach their public examinations. Likewise, good nutrition will ensure that they put their best foot forward by being healthy as well as refreshed.

From the Head of the Preparatory SchoolSeptember 17, 2021

Congratulations, we made it! I was reflecting with a colleague the other day about this term and what has been achieved insuch remarkable circumstances. Who would have thought that we could conduct a whole term of learning remotely? It seemsabsurd just typing it! I have said it previously, but I need to say it again…I am incredibly proud of the efforts of all members ofour learning community for the resilience, commitment, engagement and creativity that has been shown throughout the term tosupport the boys’ learning and to promote a sense of community in spite of our separation.

It goes without saying, but everyone deserves a well-earned rest over the upcoming holidays. I hope and pray that students, parents and teachers are refreshed and recharged by the break and remain safe and well throughout. My strongencouragement is that we all turn off our devices and make the effort to exercise, enjoy the lovely spring weather and connectwith friends and family, as we are able.

I have recorded one final video message for this term that can be viewed below.

Return to School in Term 4Our attention has begun to turn to planning for the students’ return to school in Term 4. This will continue throughout the breakand the School anticipates providing parents with clarity about the timing, associated protocols and structure of this return earlyin Term 4. Suffice to say that we are very excited about welcoming students back to school so they can benefit from face-to-facelearning and reconnecting with their classmates. We appreciate all that has occurred throughout remote learning, but we arealso very conscious that having students back in classrooms is far superior.

Utmost in our thinking and planning is the safety and health of the students, teachers and parents. We are confident that we will

Page 5: 2021 | Term 3 | Week 10

be able to put structures and protocols in place that will maintain a learning environment that achieves this based on the NSWHealth guidelines.

Given the current restrictions, Term 4 will recommence in remote learning mode on Thursday 7th October. Tuesday 5thand Wednesday 6th October are Staff Professional Development Days and will be dedicated to further developing plans for thestaged return to school.

5 Minute InsightsAs we draw to the end of a term where students have inevitably engaged in far greater screen time than usual (or desirable),the holidays present an opportunity for ‘turning off’ and finding a new sense of balance. For some students and families this willbe easy, for others it may require some ‘tough love’ that will be beneficial in the long run. This week’s 5 Minute Insightsexplores this concept and provides some encouragement for how to achieve this in the holidays.

Wellbeing – guidance from our Year 5 learners Earlier in the year, the Year 5 boys were inspired by the picture book Pandemic by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley. In thisbook, the author and illustrator write about the challenges faced by people during the Spanish Flu pandemic. The mostimpactful aspect of this book was the idea that the pandemic was overcome through quarantine and kindness. The children inthis book chose to take action in the community by delivering food, feeding pets and collecting fruit and vegetables fromgardens when people in the community were in quarantine.

As group, we took some time to identify how we could support our community during lockdown, just like the children in thebook. In 2021, most people continue to have access to food and shopping online, with essential services remaining open, andthere are community organisations set up to support people in need. Therefore, we thought we could support the communityusing a website. Through this website, we aim to spread kindness, joy and wellbeing to all in our community. We hope youenjoy it and it helps you get through lockdown.

The website can be accessed at this link.

Athletics CarnivalYesterday’s Athletics Carnival was a great way to draw this term to a close. It was wonderful to see the students (and staff)getting involved across the day in a variety of fun-filled events. I have been so encouraged by the strong sense of House spiritthat has been generated across this term and yesterday was a further demonstration of this. The final results from the carnivalwere as follows:

1. School2. Hilliard3. Henderson4. Archer

Congratulations to School House and everyone that got involved in the carnival!

Australia Reads

Page 6: 2021 | Term 3 | Week 10

Literature plays such a key role in the development of young people. As such, encouraging students to be readers is a primarygoal of primary schooling. On Tuesday morning we embraced this through our collective engagement in the Australia Readsinitiative. All of the students, and staff, were encouraged to commit one hour of the day to reading. Whilst reading is oftenpurposeful, this experience focused more on the enjoyment that can come from curling up with a good book. Click here to seehow our community spent the hour…just reading!

Llandilo Development I am very excited to provide an update on the Llandilo Development. Over the holidays the finishing touches will be takingplace on the internal and external works associated with the building works. Our new furniture is also scheduled to arrive in thenext couple of weeks. As a result, the new STEAM Lab, and Year 5 and 6 Learning Centres will be ready to go when the boysare able to return to school. I am working on creating a video of the works to share with the community early next term.

NAPLAN resultsWe anticipate NAPLAN parent reports should arrive in time to be sent home in the first week of Term 4.

Pre-Kindergarten making pledges to the worldOver the course of the term our Pre-Kindergarten boys have had a great term of learning. Amongst other things they have beeninquiring into the way we share our planet. We have some agents of change on our hands! Click here to view the boys’pledges to the world and here to see some learning highlights from this term.

Staffing updateMs Sam Gattas, one of our Kindergarten Teacher Aides, finishes up her contract with us at the end of this term. Whilst it isdisappointing to farewell Ms Gattas, we are pleased to be welcoming back Mrs Elena Molnar from her maternity leave from thebeginning of next term. The end of this term also signals the end of Ms Ashleigh Lopez’s internship with 1M. We thank MsLopez for her involvement across the year and particularly this term throughout remote learning.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

From the Head of the Junior SchoolSeptember 17, 2021

Dear Parents and Friends of the Junior School,

We reach the end of an extraordinary term that none of us were imaging on the corresponding day last term. There is much toreflect upon. At the moment, my overwhelming feelings are of appreciation and pride for the manner that boys, teachers andparents have endured, persevered, worked together and cared for one another in the face of obstacles, distance, fatigue anduncertainty. Everyone has made the very best out of every situation even when much has been beyond our control. WELLDONE, ALL!

It is now time to rest and re-charge because it is deserved and it is healthy to rest. Also, because next term will contain morechallenges in which we all need to be at our best. Initially, the challenge will be a few weeks of continued remote learning, followed by a staggered return to school in the run-up to the conclusion of the year. This return will be a re-adjustment for allgiven the extended period away and the considerable accommodations that will need to be made by boys, parents and staff toensure a safe and manageable community. Please ensure that your son (and you) use the next few weeks to benefit from thebreak to routines and expectations associated with remote learning.

If your son requires some inspiration to help him to be productively occupied across the holiday period, then we suggest:

Move-A-Thon – our hours are going up faster than vaccination rates and we have collectively crashed though the 2000hour barrier! The Move-a-Thon runs until Friday 15th October, with half of its 40 days spanning the holiday break. It is agreat time to boost moving minutes, challenge friends and collect sponsors. Congratulations to Week 1 winners of RebelSport vouchers, Nicholas Beke (5T), Nicholas Ma (4J), Vito Zhou (5B) and Lachlan McCarthy (KW). We will still drawweekly prizes across the holidays and these will be randomly selected from boys who are doing lots of moving; orGreen Patch Day – these activities remain accessible via the Canvas page and can be commenced or continued overthe Spring season; or

Page 8: 2021 | Term 3 | Week 10

Hungry4More? – teachers have released fun and engaging activities across many areas of interest which most boyshave not had the time or inclination to try…yet. Any “I’m bored and don’t know what to do” moments may be the perfecttime to try! Whilst teachers will not be updating or monitoring H4M? over the break, the back-catalogue of games andactivities is available;and, every holiday is a good time to read!

Today also brings some sadness as we bid ‘adieu’ to Mrs Maher and Ms Baines. Mrs Maher has been a steady, skilled andcaring influence on her boys this year, and Ms Baines has been our ‘super-casual’ for two years and a particularly valuedmember of the Year 6 team this term. Both depart with our considerable appreciation and best wishes, Mrs Maher to take up aleadership position at Roseville College, and Ms Baines to travel, teach and be re-united with family and friends overseas. Wealso thank Miss McGrory for her role on Year 3 this year as her internship concludes. The boys and teachers of Year 3 haveloved having her and we hope that this is not yet goodbye, expecting that she will continue to be part of the Junior School in acasual capacity next term.

Whilst it is not forefront of most minds, parents of students in Years 3 and 5 may be wondering about NAPLAN assessmentscompleted early in Term 2. We have been advised by NESA to expect delivery of these to school in the coming week and willthen forward these to parents at the beginning of next term.

As indicated previously, the School is taking time to consider the full implications of the government’s guidelines for returningto school and how these can be enacted to provide a safe learning environment on our campus. The School will communicatethe details of the plan to return to school at the beginning of next term.

Term 4 will begin for all Junior School students with their class check-in on Thursday 7 October.

I wish you all a refreshing and, most importantly, safe break.

Mark Dunn | Head of the Junior School

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Eat well, live well, perform well: presentationwrap upSeptember 17, 2021

Trinity parents and boys were treated to an informative and intriguing presentation by Jessica Spendlove, one of Australia’sleading Dietitians from the Health and Performance Collective.

The presentation, aptly named Nutrition for Performance in School and Life, covered a range of topics including

Food is FuelAll the ElementsHow to Eat for Academic Success during Exam PrepHydrationFood and SleepBrain Hero Foods

Key take-home points included the need for the diet to include protein, spreading the consumption of protein across the dayconsistently, as well as looking at carbohydrates as the primary fuel source for body and the mind. With the final piece of thetriad of knowledge was that food should be colourful; fruits and vegetables which give the body the necessary micronutrients toassist in the digestion of proteins, carbs, and fats; colour (fruits and vegetables) should make up much of a meal, approximately1/3 – ½ of a plate.

Food should always be colourful, nutritious, delicious, and simple.

Interactive questions were able to be answered by participants over the presentation, where a number of questions were askedby the audience. A particularly good question was asked about supplements, where Jessica confirmed that supplements are

Page 10: 2021 | Term 3 | Week 10

not required for students, further confirming the school’s stance in this area. If you missed the presentation, the recording hasbeen provided below and a copy of the presentation notes can be accessed here.

The sport staff look forward to hosting further sessions in the future and welcoming our next seminar: “The Power of Zzz”,presented by Hugh Fullagar. The details surrounding this seminar will be release in upcoming Bulletins.

Academic

Academic FocusSeptember 17, 2021

This term is one we will remember for many, many reasons – a time we might reflect upon in contemplative tone and perhapsbe ‘telling … with a sigh, somewhere ages and ages hence’. Today, I’d like to remember the term for the ways it has allowedme to see the very best in our students.

When we began the term in remote mode, we were unsure whether it would be just a couple of lessons, or longer. I rememberspeaking with my Year 7 class and agreeing with them that whether it was for Week 1 or for Weeks 1 to 10, we were going tobe the best remote learners we could be! And they did not disappoint … this week I finished the term with each of my studentspitching their creative thinking, proposing an idea for a contemporary manifestation, in comic form, of an aspect of classicalGreek mythology. What a blessing for any teacher to be working with committed students who bring their best every day. WhileI share here a specific example from one of my own classes, I know every teacher has enjoyed such experiences. We willremember this term for the resilience of our students, their creativity, their collaboration and the encouragement they providednot just to each other, but their teachers as well.

When we realised there was not going to be any Sport for quite some time, I remember the rapidity with which the Co-curricularteam developed Canvas pages to support myriad versions of physical activity and training at home. While I am no greatsportswoman, I found myself fascinated by the range of workout options available to even me and I felt empowered to givesome of them a go! We will remember the ways in which digital spaces came to offer us so much connection to the things welove, and the inspiration to keep working hard for them.

Page 12: 2021 | Term 3 | Week 10

When we understood that, despite our detailed planning, we would not be able to hold Trial Examinations onsite, I rememberworking with Year 12 students in a series of online briefing and practice sessions, attempting to get them ready for a new kindof final assessment in just a single week. Again, they did not disappoint … they engaged, they asked the right questions, theymastered the processes required, they worked over the phone with IT specialists to solve technology issues, they managedtheir mothers and fathers who occasionally popped into the online assessment (and then quickly back out again), they arrivedon time to every invigilation session and chatted kindly with each other as they waited for the release of the tasks. Year 12, weenjoyed this time working closely with you, even though separated by distance. We will remember this term with pride in theincredible maturity you brought to online assessment.

When we made the decision to extend the 2021 academic year, I remember working with Year 10 students, again in onlinebriefing sessions, to support them in understanding the options before them and how to deliberately step into responsibility formaking good choices. Definitely no disappointment here – the boys were respectful, thoughtful and purposeful in the way theyshaped not only their programmes of study, but also their attitudes, to expect excellent learning in the coming term. We willremember this term with great satisfaction in the way in Year 10 embraced new possibilities.

When I remember these things about our students, I am led to then remember the commitment of the Trinity staff to makingthings as great as possible. Our gratitude to the Housemasters who supported every boy in their care, our gratitude to theHeads of Faculties who managed all the consequences of a shifting landscape to ensure high quality teaching and learning, our gratitude to the teachers who adjusted to remote learning and then adjusted again and again to gauge the needs andmoods of classes and respond with ever more creative ways to make remote mode work, our gratitude to the Trinity supportstaff who simply did whatever was needed, is immense. I remember too, conversations and email exchanges with parents, through which genuine partnership to achieve strong outcomes for students was evident, and kind words were shared. We willremember this term with joy in the community of which we are a part.

There are of course a few more regular pieces of information in this last article for the term … firstly, the Middle and JuniorSchools are awaiting the delivery of NAPLAN Reports and anticipate mailing these to parents early in the first week of nextterm. Secondly, students and parents are reminded that Semester 2 Learning Progress Reports will be produced for the end ofthe year and will include evidence of learning that is collected during Term 4. Finally, a deep thank you to each family for yoursupport of learning throughout the term, and a heartfelt wish for a marvellous break.

School HolidaysWith another period of school holidays ahead of us in lockdown, we need to be focusing on the things we can do! The Libraryteam has been looking at some options as to how you can spend some time together taking part in fun activities and enjoyingsome quality literature. Please have a look at some of our ideas below:

BookTrust – This website has lots of picture books that are read to you.

National Geographic Kids – This website has lots of reading material, quizzes and knowledge about our world.

Street Library – This was mentioned last week in Prep News. Now that we can go outside and enjoy the sunshine with abeautiful picnic in the park, why not pick up a book on the way.

However you spend your holidays, if it is done with a book, please email us a picture of you enjoying your chosen book [email protected]. Not only does it bring a smile to our face, but it is an opportunity for us to share your images in futurePrep News articles.

Borrowbox

We have been sharing this resource for a few weeks with you now and would like to encourage you to continue to use it. Thewebsite is www.https://trinityjunior.borrowbox.com and the login is just your normal school one. A big shout out to Joseph inYear 3 who emailed us with a request for Frankie Fish to be added to the online library. We have ordered it and hopefully it willbe there for him to enjoy in the holidays. Please keep your requests coming in as we only want to add books that you want toread!

Author Spotlight – FelicityMarshall Felicity Marshall is an Australian painter and author/illustrator of children’s books. She grew up in the country outside Perth,

Page 18: 2021 | Term 3 | Week 10

Western Australia – the daughter of an Australian photojournalist father and an English mother from Yorkshire.

Felicity taught for one year in an art school and then moved to Melbourne where she worked in film production for seventeenyears. In 1983 her house burned down in the Ash Wednesday bushfires in Victoria, destroying all her work, including six yearsof paintings ready for a major exhibition.

A few years later, Felicity started to write and illustrate children’s books, drawing on her experience in the film industry, indance performance and her skills as a photographer and painter.

Recently Felicity wrote The Very Clever Bee. Bees know exactly what they are doing and curious children want to learn theirsecrets:

What goes on inside a beehive? How do bees make honey? What is pollination?

This book answers these questions!

Library News | Junior SchoolSeptember 17, 2021

There are so many fabulous books that help the students make better sense of the world around them. This week I will sharethree library books that were used for learning in the Year Four, Year Two and Year One classes.

Year Four have just begun a new unit of Inquiry, Sharing the Planet. Last week we read the book; Desert Lake, The story ofKati Thanda-Lake Eyre by Pamela Freeman. The boys also watched some information from the Bureau of Meteorology abouthow the desert becomes a lake every few years. The boys were asked to pretended that they had just been on the aircraft thatflew over Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre and to write a postcard back to their family or friends describing what they had seen.

Page 20: 2021 | Term 3 | Week 10

In Year Two, we have been looking into How We Express Ourselves. This has been examined through the line of inquiry ofSigns and Symbols facilitate local and global communication.

During Library, we have been reading The Flag Book, The amazing stories behind the world’s flags by Moira Butterfield. Lastweek we looked at how pirates communicated with their different flags. The boys were then asked to draw a pirate ship andchoose a pirate flag to communicate to the other sailors.

Page 21: 2021 | Term 3 | Week 10

Thomas

Jacob – The red flag; fight to the death!

Leo – “If I choose the Red Jolly Roger flag is means I will fight to the death; if I choose the Black Jolly Roger flag it means that Iwill make them surrender without a fight.”

Year One have been investigating Changes in technology have shaped the way we live. Last week we read information booksregarding the changing technology of televisions.

Page 22: 2021 | Term 3 | Week 10

Remote learning as provided the great opportunity to be able to draw parents into the learning. Being at home and moreavailable to ask questions about their own experiences with television growing up, proved to be an insightful, informative andrich experience. It was really special for boys to find out more about their parent’s experiences of what life was like when theywere six or seven years old.

1. How many TV’s did you have at my age? We had no TV at my age of six in Korea. Only one TV, my neighbour. I wouldgo and watch a popular TV show for children at their house.

2. Size and colour: 14 inch TV in the early 1980’s and only black and white was available in Korea. My parents bought a TVwhen I was ten.

3. Favourite show: An animation of Korean martial arts. It was broadcasted every weekend.4. Significant world event watched: Soul Olympic Games 1988. Still remember the opening and closing ceremony and the

theme song Hand in hand. Korea ranked 4th place at that Olympic Games.

Enjoy the break and I hope you can find some time to read some great books over the holidays. I am planning on reading SixMinutes by Petronella McGovern, The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, The Riviera House by Natasha Lester and Apples NeverFall by Liane Moriarty.

Term 3 is always a very busy term for Year 12 students, as they near the end of their time in formal lessons and consider theircourse applications more carefully.

As parents, you have been wonderful, advocating for your sons as they navigate these tasks in difficult circumstances. Thankyou for your support of the careers programme this term, and for the guidance you are providing your sons.

I posted an end of term message for our Year 12 students this morning – contact with me does not finish this week, and I lookforward to continuing to help them making their decisions for what comes next.

News from The Arthur Holt LibrarySeptember 17, 2021

As we wind down the term, it has become customary for The Arthur Holt Library to create an infographic to record any keyevents and track how our resources are being used across the school community. Of course, in a normal term, we might look atborrowing statistics, or the number of classes who enjoyed our space – but, as we’re all aware, this term was anything butnormal. So, instead of the numbers, we’ve led with some of the projects we completed to support the School and its studentsthrough these unusual times.

First and foremost is our co-teaching. This term we were able to deliver our wide-reading programme to Year 7 and support theIB Diploma Programme boys in their planning for their Extended Essays – all via remote learning. We also delivered lessons tothe HSC Extension English students and to those students preparing for their Maths IAs.

To better support those students involved in independent research tasks, we also redesigned our Digital Resources page onour Canvas course. Relevant databases can now be found via subject-specific buttons, which we hope will help the boys tofind the information they need more efficiently.

We’ve also put together a new Academic Scholarship Module that shares resources, scaffolds and lesson plans, with teacherslooking to design research-based projects and give advice, help and guidance for any students currently engaged in them.

With face-to-face events out of the question, we also had to find some creative ways to use our guest speakers for ScienceWeek and set a Reading Challenge that would remind staff and the wider community of the benefits a good book can bring inthese trying times.

All in all, a successful term! Although we are very much looking forward to seeing everyone back on site before Christmas.

“A writer only begins a book. A reader finishes it.”

Music Learning in Remote

Page 38: 2021 | Term 3 | Week 10

During remote learning, we have been using online music programs to learn about the musical concepts in listening, performing and organising sound activities. We have been using technology such as Soundtrap, Noteflight and Chrome MusicLab to link with the PYP and the Trinity Growth Programme. We looked at pentatonic, major and minor melodies, bass lines, and chord progressions. We also recently had a look at the famous bass line of Pachelbel’s Canon in D and how similarostinato bass lines have been used in music after it.

Remote learning has provided much more practice time for people who play a musical instrument. Personally, I feel my level ofplaying has improved with the heightened amount of practice done. What’s for sure, however, is that music is still thrivingthrough these hard and confusing times.

Co-Curricular SeasonsSeptember 17, 2021

With the announcement from the Head Master for the extension of the Academic Year, a number of students and parents havebeen in touch with the School around what changes will be affected for Co-curricular. Essentially, there is almost little to nochange for students across in the life cycle of a boy at Senior School. Small administrative adjustments around nomenclaturewill be required, though essentially the same timing occurs for when a student may participate in an activity.

For Sport

Boys will continue to choose seasons of sport as per the seasonal offerings for that specific time of year. The small adjustmentwill be that when boys are trialling for Summer Sport teams during the end of Term 3 and the beginning of Term 4, they will betrialling for teams which they will be playing in the following calendar year. Eg boys in Year 7 will be trialling for Year 8 teamswhen they are still in Year 7 classes.

For Activities

Similar to Sport, Activities across the School will continue to have “seasons”. Compulsory Activities will start at the same time ofthe year as it currently does within the life of a student in high school, now known as Term 4 of Year 7. This compulsory Activityparticipation continues across the upcoming years for students until they are in Year 12, where in Term 3 of their final year ofschool, there is no compulsion of Year 12 students to participate in any Activities. For boys who are able, there will be twoopportunities within the year where students can change their Activity, identified as “Transfer Windows”. These windows willfall as the first two weeks in Term 2 of the calendar year and then at end of Term 3. These times are chosen as it a similartiming as to when Sport seasons change over from Summer to Winter. This timing will give boys roughly two terms toparticipate within an activity. The table below further explains this timeline.
