Dear Friends of TeamMates:It has been an exicting year for the TeamMates Mentoring Program as we finished the school year serving close to 6,000 youth across 110 chapters. We have added a post-secondary mentoring component as well as continued to expand our strength-based mentoring and matching tool. These additions are leading to longer lasting, higher quality mentoring relationships.

As you read our annual report, you will discover the rich rewards of mentoring. Thank you for your gift of time and resources for the next generation.

Dear Friends of TeamMates:

We are grateful for your response to the mission of TeamMates - to positively impact the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential. TeamMates was founded more than 20 years ago on the premise that every young person has talent to share with the world. Mentors are in the unique position to identify and encourage this talent so young people can envision a hopeful future.

More than 6,000 volunteers have stepped forward to serve as mentors in the past year. The time and resources our mentors have invested will have an impact for generations to come. As we look toward our vision of serving 10,000 youth by 2015, your support is needed now more than ever before.

Thank you for your dedication to youth and for investing in future generations.

COMMUNITIES

CORPORATE CHAMPIONBCBSNEBlueCross and BlueShield of Nebraska has been a champion to TeamMates in many ways. With close to 40 employees actively mentoring in Omaha alone, the company is dedicated to providing a sense of hope and vision to our young people. Not only are their employees dedicated to our mission, but each year they choose to dedicate their resources to inspiring youth as well. Many chapters were started with BCBSNE seed money, they have participated in the Tailgate Gala each year, they provide TeamMates with in-kind printing, and their design team created our current brochure and updates this for us on a regular basis. They have allowed TeamMates to utilize their office space for board meetings and trainings. In addition, Steve Mar-tin, the BCBSNE CEO mentors through our newly established post-secondary program. Steve serves on the TeamMates board of directors and has been key to our strategic planning. BCBSNE will be embarking on a new journey with TeamMates this fall as they have agreed to participate in strengths-based mentoring as a company. All of their mentors will be trained on strengths and learn to utilize their own strengths to discover the talents of the students they serve.

STRENGTHSThis year many of our chapters focused on strengths-based mentoring. Using the Gallup StrengthsFinder and strengths application during mentoring time, our matches saw powerful results by focusing on their unique talents. Across communities we continue to see an increase in students’ overall level of hope, engagement and sense of wellbeing.

POST-SECONDARY SUPPORTThe Post-Secondary component of TeamMates is designed to work with mentees to provide them with support for high school and beyond. This support includes best practices for high school retention, a step-by-step checklist to post-secondary education, career planning, scholarship resources, and college knowledge resources. Mentors are also provided with these resources to better support their mentee during the high school years.

TEAMMATES GALLUP DATA HIGHLIGHTSWhen students were asked what they have learned about themselves after discussing Strengths, they responded:

• I am able to overcome my own obstacles• I am unique and that I am hard to replace• I have many strengths that I never really knew about• I have potential

STRATEGIC INITATIVES

As we focus on our vision to reach 10,000 matches by 2015 we revisit our strategic initiatives formed in 2006. With substantial progress in each of these areas we are looking towards a bright future for TeamMates!

Fundraising- TeamMates raises $1.5 million per year to support more than $6,000 youth! Branding/Marketing- Upon conclusion of a valuable partnership with Bailey Lauerman, we head into 2013 with professional recruitment videos targeting 5 different audiences, a substantial presence on social media outlets, and new found partnerships with marketing and media companies. Iowa Expansion- With a few new additions this year, we now have 11 active chapters in Iowa with nearly 500 matches!

Urban Challenges- With an established and confident metro “dream team” the upcoming year holds many new developments for urban expansion through newfound partnerships with community organizations, corporations, and more.

Recruiting Mentors and Mentees- Our newly established recruitment materials will allow us to distribute our recruitment efforts with ease to reach the masses.

SHEENA WHEELER SENIOR OPERATIONS MANAGER FOR TDAMERITRADE

I believe I was in the 8th grade when I was first introduced to Cindy and the TeamMates Organization. I have always been a motivated individual but TeamMates helped me to guide my motivation in the right direction. Even at 28 I still call my Mentor and thank her for all the support she provided to me and my family. She will never know the impact she made on my life and how much I appreciated what she did for me as a youth and how those things have molded my life today. Mentoring goes beyond the visits, beyond the conversations and beyond the assistance for College… It’s a life-long friendship and an addition to the family! With Cindy I know I always have one more person I can talk to and one more person

to say, “I am proud of you!”

I completed my Masters in Organizational Performance from Bellevue University in June 2012. I work as the Senior Operations Coordinator for TDAmeritrade in Omaha and each year I push myself to continue to grow within the company. Beyond my professional accomplishments I have a great family. I am the Mother of 2 rambunctious boys and step mother to 1 beautiful girl. I am married to a very witty man that makes me smile on a daily basis.

DIVINE SHELTON: MASTERS STUDENT AT SLU UNIVERSITY

I was first involved in Teammates at the age of 12. I was a 7th grade student at Monroe Middle School when I was matched with Mr. Tim Schmad. First of all, without my connections in Teammates I simply believe I would not have made it this far in my academic life. Mr. Schmad was like another parent, another person I felt accountable to, another person to lean on, another ear to brag to, another mind to ask advice to, and another helping hand that made sure I made it to the point that I am now. We certainly did not share a background, race, age, or so many other things. However, what I found was a man who was open, kind, reliable, resourceful, and someone who truly cared about others. It is one thing to want to be successful, quite another to have a successful person reach down to help make sure you succeed.

I am 23 now; I graduated from Creighton University with a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and Legal Studies minor. Currently, I attend Saint Louis University where I am a graduate student in the Masters in Public Administration program and I am applying for a program to obtain my Doctorate in Public Policy. I am also in the process of applying for Teach for America. I plan to run for public office at some point in my life.

MONICA MILLIAN: DENTAL ASSISTANT

I started in TeamMates when I was a seventh grader at Walnut Middle School. My experience with TeamMates helped me a lot by assisting me in reaching my goals of graduating high school and being able to attend college to receive my diploma as a dental assistant. With the career that I chose my husband and I were able to purchase our first home for our family to live in. That was one of the best feeling ever. Without the TeamMates program and the greatest mentor that anyone could ever have and or ask for, Lynn Cronk, I can honestly say that I more than likely would not have been able to achieve the goals that I had set for myself and my future.

She encouraged me to do my best in whatever I set out to do. To my TeamMates mentor I would like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have been a great friend and mother figure in my life. You have always been by my side in the good times and bad times that life has given me and for that I am very great full to have you in my life. Thanks to the TeamMates program and Lynn Cronk I am were I am now.

I’m now 28 years old living in Grand Island, NE with my husband George Millan Jr. and our two children Anthony Millan and Kalia Millan III. I’m currently working full time as a dental assistant at the office of Dr. Janda & Janda here in Grand Island. Working full time and taking care of my two children keeps me very busy.
