Child Safety Statement

Newport Gardens Primary School is committed to a zero tolerance of child abuse and creating an inclusive school culture that promotes child safety. Our

vision of Nurturing Our Future supports our focus of including people of all abilities, and promotes the cultural safety of individuals from culturally and

linguistically diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

Dear Parents,

Today at assembly we announced who our school captains and vice-captains will be for 2017. A

very big well done to all students who applied for the prestigious positions, and for having the

courage and commitment to put themselves forward in what is a very nerve racking process. You

should all be very proud of your efforts and consider yourself already a leader. The school cap-

tains for 2017 are Amelie Sideris-Zammit and Jonah Makin. Our school vice-captains for 2017 are

Abbey Goldsworthy and Oliver Fraser.

A reminder to all that school photos will be taken tomorrow. In years gone by parents have que-

ried the delivery date of the photos. This is not something the school has control over. Any que-

ries regarding photo delivery should be directed to the company itself. We do begin with the prep

students first to ensure they look their best, and of course all students need to be in full school

uniform.

Whilst mentioning uniforms, we are reminding students who are out of uniform what our expecta-

tions are. Our student dress code was again ratified at school council last week and it’s on our

website. Please make sure you are aware of the school’s dress code so we can work together to

have all students in full school uniform each day.

The Labour day public holiday is fast approaching being Monday March 13th this year. Normally

we have had a curriculum day either before or directly after Labour Day. This year that will not be

the case. Instead we will have the day before ANZAC Day as our curriculum day so please mark

this in your diary.

This Thursday is Japanese Cultural Day where we turn our attention to all things Japanese. Jerabek

Sensei will lead our parade, followed by a series of activities led by our visitors from Nagoya Wom-

en’s University. Lunch will consist of sushi for those who have ordered that and followed by a

martial arts demonstration with a difference this year after lunch. A great day for all and I can’t

wait to see all the wonderful costumes on the day.

Finally, school council nominations close today. If you were planning on nominating for school

council please do so either in person at the office or via email. Any queries about school council

can be directed through the school office.

BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL CARE

Monday to Friday 7:00 - 9am / 3:00 - 6pm. If you would like to make a booking or would like any

information on the After School Care Program please do not hesitate to call 0411 656 074

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Last week at OSHClub we focused on boundaries and guidelines at the program. Could you please remind children that they need to ask a team member before they leave to go outside and play or to the toilets. We have had some children walking out to the playground without letting us know. We will be focusing on this for the next few weeks to help eve-ryone settle in to these routines. There is a suggestion jar on the sign out table were children and parents can make suggestions for activities. Please feel free to make a suggestion or leave feedback as it is much appreciated.

Fun at OSHClub

Have a beautiful week!

JAPANESE

Hi everyone,

I hope everybody had a great break!

I have decided to stop publishing ‘Jerabek-sensei’s Japanese Corner’ in the weekly newsletter.

Instead, I have created a website that will include everything that is happening in the Japanese.

Specialist Program – weekly updates, resources for students – for school or home, videos, pictures, you name

it – everything Japanese related will be here on this site.

I will put the address to this website in the newsletter permanently so you can check it every week – and I will also add a

message on the newsletter to let you know of any major updates to the site. The address to the website is:

http://ngpsjapanese.global2.vic.edu.au/

The password to enter the website is: japan

Looking forward to having another amazing year in Japanese!

Thanks!

Jerabek Sensai
