On Monday evening, November 6th, the College Guidance Office was pleased to host Mr. RobertFriedman, the Director of Student Finance at Yeshiva University. Mr. Friedman gave an outstandingpresentation to a group of junior and senior parents called Financing Education Beyond High School: WhatYou Need to Know.

Topics covered included: the various types of aid available, the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), howstudent and parent loans work, the financial aid time table, how financial aid impacts the year of study inIsrael and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Mr. Friedman also addressed the changed policies and deadlines regarding FAFSA filing in the pastseveral years. Mr. Friedman explained that the FAFSA application is now made available online as ofOctober 1st of each year, giving parents and students three additional months to prepare and file. He alsoexplained that parents are now using "prior-prior" year tax information (example: 2016 tax returns for the2018-2019 year), taking a lot of the guesswork out of the financial aid process.

The parents who attended found the evening to be very informative and productive.

REMINDER: The deadline to apply for Financial Aid is now. Parents of seniors should be filing their FAFSAon www.fafsa.gov.

If you were not able to attend and would like additional information, feel free to contact College Guidanceat [email protected] or [email protected].
