We have both given to and received back from this appeal for our infrastructure. In 2014 and 2016, Lourdes was a grant beneficiary from the “Stewardship Endowment Fund”. This fund was creat- ed by the Archdiocese for capital improvements at local parishes. In 2014, $44,500 was granted for remediation of an oil tank on our property; in 2016, $15,000 was granted for the metal work, caulking, and sealing of the stained glass windows in the church. Supporting this appeal will continue to have benefits for our own infrastructure and our own spiritual growth. We are stronger together. I ask for your prayers for the appeal, for Our Lady of Lourdes, and for the ministry of our Archbishop, Cardinal Joseph Tobin, to the Church of Newark. Information and pledge cards are available in the pews of the church. We would also be glad to mail you any information you may require. Thank you for your generosity always. In Christ’s Peace, Father Jim Ferry Dear Brothers & Sisters of Our Lady of Lourdes: MULTIPLICATION AND OUR MISSION Jesus said to them in reply, Give them some food yourselves. But [the disciples] said to him, Are we to buy two hundred dayswages worth of food and give it to them to eat?He asked them, How many loaves do you have? Go and see.(Mark 6:37-38) I write to thank you for your prayers and financial support of Our Lady of Lourdes and of the charities we support through the Archdiocese of Newark. The 2018 Sharing God’s Blessings Appeal starts on January 27-28. Through this appeal, we imitate the first disciples to whom the multiplication of resources was performed though the miracle of Jesus’ love for the crowd. The miracle – which is completed by God’s grace – is also fundamentally a blessing of the resources which the disciples discover. In my own ministry, I rely on this appeal to support multiple needs: Catholic Charities, rent, food, and other necessities. The Sharing God’s Blessings Appeal also supports the archdiocesan youth center in Kearny, the out- reach of college-campus ministry, the pastoral care of hospital ministry, and other endeavors. Each parish of the archdiocese has more to offer because of the services we support in the region of Essex, Union, Hudson, and Bergen Counties. Our parish's 2018 goal is $29,717. If our goal were surpassed, 60% of the surplus would be rebated to Lourdes for our use. All of you – at Our Lady of Lourdes – are so generous to charitable drives that benefit the needy in our community including our annual Giving Tree and other endeavors. I ask you to prayerfully consider that your gift to Sharing God’s Blessings brings a similar gift of love and hope to the needy in our arch- diocesan region. Your love is multiplied and paid forward to many, the young and the old, the poor and the hungry. I ask every person and family to pray, first, for the needy people, families, students, and the homebound who are served by this appeal. Please pray that God’s grace may multiply the support and strength they need. I ask every person and family also to consider a financial gift, prayerfully, to the appeal this year. Increasing our partici- pation not only alleviates the burden of raising funds but increases our collective awareness of those in need. Jesus also asks to examine ourselves, to “go and see” what we might provide through our praying and giving. Every gift of every amount makes a difference. 21 January 2018
