¡Jesus, en ti
confió!
April 26,
2015
One census taker went to the home
of a rather poor family in the
mountains of West Virginia to
gather information. He asked the
mother how many dependents she
had. She began, "Well, there is
Rosie, and Billy, and Lewella,
Susie, Harry, and Jeffrey. There's
Johnny, and Harvey, and our dog,
Willie." It was then that the census
taker interrupted her aid said: "No,
ma'am, that's not necessary. I only
need the humans." "Ah," she said.
"Well, there is Rosie, and Billy, and
Lewella, Susie, Harry, and Jeffrey,
Johnny, and Harvey, and...." But
there once again, the census taker
interrupted her. Slightly
exasperated, he said, "No, ma'am,
you don't seem to understand. I don't
need their names, I just need the
numbers." To which the old woman
replied, "But I don't know them by
numbers. I only know them by
name." In today’s gospel Jesus the
good shepherd says that he knows
his sheep by name.

In London, a crowd had gathered to
hear a famous Shakespearean actor
recite some of Shakespeare’s
dramas. The crowd was so very
entranced and entertained by the
actor’s abilities, and they gave him
frequent standing ovations. An old
preacher in the audience encouraged
the actor to recite the 23rd Psalm,
using his Shakespearean style. The
actor agreed on one condition that
the preacher also should do so after
he finished. The actor used much
expression and voice inflection and
all of his acting abilities, and when
he was finished, the crowd gave a
resounding standing ovation that
lasted for several minutes. Then the
old preacher started reciting the
same psalm. As he began, his voice
was shaky because of his reverence
for God’s Word. When the preacher
was finished, nobody clapped. They
couldn’t. There wasn’t a dry eye
anywhere, and all were busy wiping
their tears. The Shakespearean actor
slowly stood, and he said, “Ladies
and gentlemen, there is obviously a
difference between this preacher and
me. I know the Psalm of the Good
Shepherd psalm , but this preacher
knows the Shepherd of the Psalm.”

It's been said that every pastor ought
to have six weeks of vacation each
year, because if he is a real good
shepherd, he deserves it; and if he is
not a very good shepherd, his
congregation deserves it.

Lewella, Susie, Harry y Jeffrey. Está
Johnny y Harvey y nuestro perro,
Willie". Fue entonces que el
verificador la interrumpió y dijo:
"No, señora, eso no es necesario.
Sólo necesito a los seres humanos".
"Ah", dijo. "Bueno, hay Rosie y
Billy, Lewella, Susie, Harry y
Jeffrey, Johnny y Harvey, y..." Pero
allí una vez más, el verificador le
interrumpe. Ligeramente
exasperado, dijo: "No, señora, no
parece que entiende. No necesito sus
nombres, sólo necesito los
números". A lo que la anciana
respondió, "pero no les conozco por
números. Sólo los conozco por su
nombre." En el Evangelio de hoy
Jesús el Buen Pastor dice que
conoce a sus ovejas por su nombre.
--------------------------------------------
Londres, una multitud se había
reunido para oír a un actor famoso
Shakesperiano recitar algunos de los
dramas de Shakespeare. La multitud
estaba muy extasiada y entretenida
por las habilidades del actor, y le
dieron frecuentes ovaciones. Un
viejo predicador en el público animó
al actor para recitar el Salmo 23,
usando su estilo Shakesperiano.
El actor accedió con una condición,
que el predicador lo hiciera después
de que el terminara. El actor utilizó
mucha expresión e inflexión de voz
y todas sus capacidades de
actuación, y cuando terminó, la
multitud le dio una rotunda ovación
que duró varios minutos. Entonces
el viejo predicador empezó a recitar
el mismo Salmo. Cuando comenzó,
su voz estaba temblorosa debido a
su reverencia por la Palabra de Dios.
Cuando el predicador terminó, nadie
aplaudió. No pudieron. No había un
ojo seco en ningún lugar, y todos
estaban ocupados limpiando sus
lágrimas. El actor Shakesperiano
lentamente se puso de pie y dijo:
"Damas y Caballeros, obviamente
hay una diferencia entre este
predicador y yo.

merece.

Vatican Corner
Continued… Archbishop Chaput of the
Archdiocese of Philadelphia says
that so far church organizers have
raised $33 million of their $45
million goal for the World Meeting
of Families event, of which Pope
Francis will be attending the closing
ceremonies. Most of the funds will
go to crowd security and event
cleanup. He said “Those are very
expensive things to do with such a
big crowd.”
Organizers have announced that
the US Department of Homeland
Security is taking the lead in all
security arrangements for the events.
The federal government has declared
the Pope’s visit and activities
leading up to his arrival a “national
security special event.” That means
multiple governmental agencies will
be bringing their many resources to
Philadelphia. The Secret Service is
in charge of all security, the FBI is
tasked with intelligence gathering
and investigation of any terrorism
threats or other major criminal
activities. The Papal Swiss Guard,
Vatican Police and Philadelphia
Police will also coordinate to ensure
the safety of the Pope and the public.
Philadelphia will be following the
well-worn plan for managing large
events that they use each Fourth July
when approximately one million
people pack the Benjamin Franklin
Parkway to attend the free holiday
concert. A spokesman for the City
said “certainly, the numbers will be
greater, but the framework is there
and we feel confident that we will be
able to manage this aspect of
planning."
As the host for Pope Francis
during his visit to Philadelphia,
Archbishop Chaput will have a very
special privilege. “I actually get to
ride in the Popemobile with him,”
Chaput said. “That’s how close I’m
gonna be in the situation.” “I don’t
know exactly where I’m going to be
seated but they tell me I’m supposed
to accompany him in all the venues
here in Philadelphia because I’m the
host, and that’s a great privilege.
I’ve never done that before” and “I’ll
be standing next to the Pope during
the mass,” Chaput said.
The Vatican has given its blessing
to a fund raiser. The vanilla ice
cream and shortbread cookie
milkshake called "#PopeinPhilly"
will benefit the events in
Philadelphia. Archbishop Vincenzo
Paglia the president of the Vatican
department that organizes the world
meetings picked the winning flavor
from three choices during a recent
visit to a Potbelly Sandwich Shop in.
Philadelphia. Paglia got help from a
dozen Catholic school students. To be continued …

Let us pray…
God of the invitation,
you knock upon the door of everyone's heart.
We seek the courage to open that door, for
we know the responsibility of saying yes.
We humbly ask you for your wisdom to serve
your church with compassion and acceptance.
We believe that when we say yes, you will
provide the grace for the work ahead.
Give grace to those men and women who
have dedicated their lives to constant service
to your church.
Also give grace to those couples and single
men and women who work for the church in
their secular lives.
We ask all this through Christ our Lord and
brother, who live and reign with you and the
Holy Spirit.
Amen.
"How long has Jesus been knocking at the
door of your heart, waiting to enter?"
