It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2019 Hamilton Island Triathlon and Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim.

Whether you are here to take on the Triathlon, compete in the iconic Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim or to support the participating athletes – I thank you for joining us on Hamilton Island.

Over the course of the weekend, you can expect to push yourself in paradise in one of Australia’s most pristine locations. This year marks the 11th anniversary of the Triathlon and Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim and I have been proud to watch them evolve into two of the most anticipated endurance events in Australia. Despite its awe-inspiring scenery, this exceptional course has developed a reputation for seriously challenging competitors,

attracting participants from all around Australia and the world.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors, Tourism and Events Queensland, Powerade, Maui Jim, Espresso di Manfredi, Wild Oats, ZIPP, SRAM, Corry Cycles, Cruise Whitsundays and AVPartners for their support and contribution to the event.

I wish the athletes the best of luck and hope that while you are with us you are able to take some time out from the competition to enjoy all that Hamilton Island has to offer.

Glenn Bourke Chief Executive Officer, Hamilton Island

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the heart of the Great Barrier Reef for the Hamilton Island Triathlon and Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim.

Two of four events that make up the Hamilton Island Endurance Series, the unique sprint-distance triathlon and 2km ocean swim are some of the most scenic you could hope to compete in.

The challenging landscape of the island – most of which is preserved tropical rainforest – will provide a rewarding triathlon course, with the spectacular views of surrounding islands and the sparkling Coral Sea a tempting distraction from the race. The ride, which encompasses the airport runway, is a truly unique experience. The Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim is a chance for competitors of all ages to challenge themselves across two swim distances in a breathtaking setting.

The Queensland Government is proud to support the Hamilton Island Triathlon through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program because it

brings visitors to the region and supports local jobs. The event is part of the state’s It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar which will generate $800 million for Queensland’s economy in 2019.

Congratulations to the Hamilton Island team, volunteers, and all those who are involved in delivering these events, and best of luck to all competitors.

Visitors to the Whitsundays for the event should make sure they allow time to explore the many diverse and iconic tourism experiences of the region while here, from the beauty of the island itself, to the fringing coral reefs or outer Great Barrier Reef and the many other tourism experiences just a short boat ride away on the Whitsunday Coast.

Kate Jones Minister for Tourism Industry Development
