From the Principal Dear Parents and Caregivers, Room 12 Switched On: Congratulations to Room 12 and Mrs Barlow! Our students participated in the 2019 Circuit Breakers at Scitech, on Friday. Our children were the youngest group in the Expo. Not only the youngest, they were representing our school as a class. In comparison, many other schools selected students based on applications or participation in extra-curricular clubs. The students of Room 12 did an excellent job of building a network that was detailed, accurate and on-par with the work of much older students. On Wednesday, the class presented their learning to the Administration team. I was very impressed with their understanding of the coding and micro-bits capabilities throughout their presentations. They constructed a 3D town complete with football stadium, hospital, police station, water slide and a Big Ben’. They used the micro-bits to provide lights and signs for the town. Congratulations Mrs Barlow and Room 12, you have worked very hard on this project and your presentation was outstanding! Fourth, Level 3 Classroom Teacher Acknowledged: I am pleased to announce Clifton Hills learning community now has four teachers recognised as being exemplary practitioners. Congratulations to Christine Rafferty, on the achievement of Level 3 Classroom Teacher status. This is a rigorous assessment process for applicants. Mrs Rafferty now joins Mrs Scidone, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Ritchie as Level 3 Classroom teachers in our school. The primary role of the Level 3 Classroom Teacher is of an instructional nature, modelling high standards of teaching in the classroom and continually improving professional teaching practice. Well done and congratulations Mrs Rafferty! Did you know that our eye has special cones that help us see colour? We even got to explore UV beads and see how light can make them change!

FROM THE DEPUTIES-Councillor Report

Week 5– On Friday, all of the School Leaders (Councillor’s, Peer Mediator’s, Faction Captain’s, Labrats and P.A Monitor’s) had the best time, for we went to the Cockburn Ice Arena, as a reward for all of the hard work we have been doing. Everyone enjoyed it very much and wishes to go again. On Monday, we commemorated Remembrance Day. We commemorated by lowering our flags to half mast and with one minutes silence. Did you know - a pregnant Goldfish is called a ‘twit’. From Tristan and Spencer. Week 6– The Year 6 students had their last Big Day Out. We went to the HBF Stadium. We had a lot of fun. Last Thursday, we had the Kelmscott Senior High band come and perform for us and it was amazing! Two days before, on Wednesday, those students chosen for the Agriculture program in 2020 and their parents attended an information session at the high school to let us know all about the program. From Noah and Linkin.

This is the same system we use in the Clothing Pool and will be able to accept all chipped cards (either Visa, MasterCard or Eftpos), Apple Pay and Google Pay. SCHOOL NURSE NEWS-

Colour Blindness

Colour blindness means that a person cannot distin-guish some colours or see the colours differently to other people. Very few people who are colour blind are ‘blind’ to all colours. Commonly, the colours seen differently are greens, yellows, oranges and reds. An information leaflet on colour blindness has been distributed to all Pre-primary and Year 6 students. Please take the time to read the pamphlet. If you have any concerns, in any year group regarding colour vision please consult with your GP as testing can be performed by some general practitioners, eye specialists or optometrists.

SIZZLING SCIENCE SNIPPET Room 12 & Western Power Circuit Breakers

In Room 12, we have been learning about coding and technology using ‘STEAM’ (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). Mrs Barlow applied for and received a class set of ‘Micro-bits’ for us to use. We became a ‘Western Power Circuit Breaker’ class and learned about programming, Western Power, 3D nets and shapes, engineers and different types of engineering and electricity. On Friday, we went to Scitech to present our 3D Network to the other 29 schools that took part in the Circuit Breakers program. We had lots of parent help and would like to thank everyone who gave up so much time to help us!
