    DEPARTMENT OF SPANISH AND PORTUGUESESPAN 220 FINAL EXAM STUDY GUIDE

    The Spanish Language Program Midterm Exam in the Department of Spanish consists of anopen-ended test, a composition exam, and an oral interview. The open-ended test includes:Listening Comprehension, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, and Grammar. This study guideis to assist you in your preparation for the exam.

    I. LISTENING COMPREHENSION (10 PTS)One or more texts based on themes and vocabulary from lessons 14, and 15 in Mosaicos. Firstyour instructor will read the questions and then the listening text. The texts will be read twiceonce slowly, and then once at normal speed. It is advisable to take notes on the content of thetext in the margins of your test as your instructor reads. You may provide either short orcomplete sentence answers, based on the information you hear.

    II. READING COMPREHENSION (10 PTS)One or more texts based on the themes and vocabulary from lessons 14, and 15 in Mosaicos.Read the texts carefully and answer the questions based on the information from the texts.Answer the questions with one or two complete sentences.

    III. GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY (80 PTS)Passages with fill-in the-blank and open-ended questions based on themes, grammar points, andvocabulary drawn from lessons 14, 15, and Expansin Gramatical (A9-A12) in Mosaicos:

    Structures: Adverbial conjunctions that always require the subjunctive (pp. 474-476) Adverbial conjunctions: subjunctive or indicative (pp. 477-480) The past perfect (pp. 481-483) Infinitive as subject of a sentence and as object of a preposition (pp. 484-485) The imperfect subjunctive (pp. 506-509) If-clauses (pp. 510-512); Se for unplanned occurrences (pp. 513-515)

    The conditional perfect and the pluperfect subjunctive (A9, A10); If-clauses (using perfecttenses) (A11-A12)

    COMPOSITION EXA M

    The composition exam is a timed, writing proficiency task, based on themes, grammar pointsand vocabulary drawn from lessons 14, 15, and Expansin Gramatical (A9-A12) in Mosaicos. Youwill be given two topics, from which you will select one to write your composition. You will have

    twenty minutes to write your composition without outside assistance. You are expected toconform to the requirements of the topic you chose to write a coherent and cohesive level-appropriate composition of approximately 20 sentences.
