Pack 578 Pinewood Derby The cub scouts of pack 578 held their annual Pinewood Derby last Sunday where fun, food and friendship pre-vailed. The boys raced their homemade cars with integrity and sportsmanship. What a thrilling day!

To be on the list, a student must have achieved at least a 3.5 grade point average while taking a minimum of 12 credit hours. Those on the Dean's List from this area include Brooke Walker from Derby and Kimberly Cole from Lake View. Southtowns Catholic School Pajama Day

Students and faculty at Southtowns Catholic School had a Pajama Day during Catholic Schools Week. Before lunch, the entire school dropped everything and read in their classrooms while cuddled up with blankets or their favorite stuffed toy. In the afternoon, they watched the movie In-side Out in the gym. During the day, each student passed a Positive Note to one of their fellow classmates, and pointed out a positive quality about them during homeroom. Jesse Bilowus named to Dean’s List

Jesse Clayton Bilowus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bilowus of Angola, NY, was named to the Dean’s List at Pensacola Christian College for academic achievement during the 2015 fall semester. This was a result of earning a B average or higher. Pensacola Christian College is a liberal arts college enrolling students from every state in the U.S. and from around the world. Shaw & Shaw, P.C. was founded in 1976 by brothers James and Joseph Shaw. They started out as a two-lawyer firm with one part-time secretary in offices located on Electric Avenue in Lackawanna, New York.

The practice started as a general practice focusing in the areas of real estate, matrimonial / family law, criminal law, wills and estates, sports agency work, and municipal and corporate law. During the

1980’s and 1990’s, Joseph Shaw, Jr. gained notoriety as a sports agent and attorney for numerous professional athletes and entertainment personalities.

In 1985, Leonard D. Zaccagnino, joined the Firm, and helped it expand the practice into the area of personal injury law, representing individuals injured as a result of the negligence of others.

In the mid-1980’s, the Firm relocated to its present location at 4819 South Park Avenue in Hamburg, what was once a two-room school house built in 1909.

In 2007, Jennifer Burke, joined the Firm, followed in 2008 by Christopher M. Pannozzo. Mr. Pannozzo focuses his practice in the areas of personal injury, criminal defense and general civil litigation. During his tenure, Mr. Pannozzo has worked with Leonard Zaccagnino on expanding and developing the personal injury practice. Together, they have put together a team of dedicated professionals and have allowed the Negligence Team to continue to grow with a focus on personal client attention and service. Jennifer Burke focuses her attention on Real Estate and transactional deals. Jennifer brings to the table not only an excellent knowledge of the law, but also an attitude of excellence which has propelled this area into a continued spiral of growth.

In 2014, Jim and Joe Shaw turned the torch over to Leonard D. Zaccagnino as Senior Partner, but continue an active Of Counsel practice. Christopher Pannozzo and Jennifer Burke became partners on January 1, 2014.

Boys and Girls Club Members of the Month

The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Shore is proud to an-nounce Charlotte Hernandez and Kaidyn Lazar as Decem-ber’s Members of the Month. Club Staff select members that have positive character values, are respectful, re-sponsible, caring, and good citizens. The MOTM should also participate in various Club programs such as sports, games, arts & crafts, power hour, project learn, cooking club, club council, library and nature clubs, etc. Charlotte was chosen for MOTM because she is an ex-emplary Club kid. Charlotte is quite artistic, and though quiet, she is very polite, well-mannered, and patient. She is a second grader at A.J. Schmidt Elementary, Mrs. Pinto is her favorite teacher, and she really likes ELA. At the Club, Charlotte enjoys playing in the gym the most. Away from the Club, her favorite thing to do is anything related to Minecraft. She is a fan of reading SpongeBob books, and her favorite song is “Let It Go.” Charlotte’s role models are both of her parents, and when she grows up she would like to be a veterinarian. Kaidyn is in fifth grade at A.J. Schmidt Elementary where he likes art class and Mrs. Brumagin. Not surprisingly, Kai-dyn’s favorite thing to do at the Club is help the staff. He is always looking for jobs to do to help make the staff’s jobs easier and never needs to be asked. Kaidyn never complains, always listens to staff, and always behaves ap-propriately. Away from the Club, Kaidyn likes to play with LEGOS, is a big fan of the Star Wars Complete Cross-Sec-tions books, and someday would like to be a LEGO de-signer! His favorite song to listen to is “I’m On Top of the World” and Kaidyn’s role model is his dad. Karlee Kielar is the Club’s Student of the Month. De-spite only being in second grade, Karlee attends Power Hour (homework room) consistently and racks up plenty of homework points for doing so. Even though she is a dedicated student, she finds time for fun things to do at the Club as well, like playing in the games room (her fa-vorite). Away from the Club she likes to play with friends. Karlee attends A.J. Schmidt Elementary where Mrs. Pinto is her favorite teacher, and she loves art class. Karlee’s fa-vorite song is “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift, and her favor-ite thing to read is iCarly books. Her role model is singer/actress Becky G, and when she grows up she would like to be a singer too. Our Junior Staff of the Month is Jesse Gryczkowski, a sixth grader at Lake Shore Middle School. Junior Staff work the Snack Shack and assist Club staff with activities and chores. As a Junior Staff, Jesse is always willing to an-swer the call of duty. When he’s at the Club he also likes playing active games in the gym and helping the staff set up daily free snack for all the kids. His favorite teacher is Mrs. Evans and he enjoys art class. Jesse enjoys hanging out with friends when he’s not at the Club, reading his favor-ite book Storm Breaker, and listening to his favorite band Linkin Park. Jesse’s role model is his father, and when he gets older he would like to be a United States Marine. New York Army National Guard Announces Soldier Promotions

Major General Patrick A. Murphy, The Adjutant General for the State of New York, announces the promotion of members of the New York Army National Guard in recog-nition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership. Vincent Pupo from Lake View, N.Y. serving with the 105th Military Police Company is promoted to the rank of Private First Class. Jennifer Davis from Angola, N.Y. serving with the Head-quarters and Headquarters Battalion, 42nd Infantry Divi-sion is promoted to the rank of Sergeant First Class. Southtowns Catholic School Celebrates Ash Wednesday

On Wednesday, February 10th, students and faculty at-tended Mass at Saint John Paul II Parish, in Lake View, for the 8:30 Ash Wednesday Mass. After they received their ashes, everyone returned to their classrooms. Father Peter had a special service at 10:00 just for the Preschool and ex-plained what Ash Wednesday was and answered any ques-tions before Preschool received their ashes. Southtowns Catholic School Decades Day

SCS celebrated our Community and Decade Day during Catholic Schools Week. Students came to school dressed in their favorite decade: 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s. Music from each of the decades was played throughout the day. and students got up and danced when they heard the music. Each class made crafts that were be sent to nursing home residents that had a Valentine’s Day theme or was a simple thinking of you craft.
