WOODSHOP FACILITY LOCK CHANGES EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2016

The Farmers Insurance Loss Prevention Inspector recently made the annual inspection of the New Horizons’ premises and provided the HOA with a set of loss prevention recommendations. N. H. is expected to implement as many as possible. The only change that affects residents is the procedure for use of the WOODSHOP. More information will follow. The change for the Woodshop Procedure is as follows: 1. The lock on the Woodshop Door will be changed

effective 8/1/16 so that only registered users with

the special card keys may use the facility.

2. Any resident who wants to use the facility will be

required to go to the HOA Office to sign a Release

of Liability Form. The resident only signs once.

These forms will be kept on file in the HOA Office.

3. A special color coded card key will be issued

permanently to the Woodshop user, after signing

of the Liability and Release Agreement.

4. New signage will be posted in the Woodshop

containing the new use requirements.

COYOTE AWARENESS MEETING FOLLOWUP Yes, the coyotes are a huge problem. Residents near Accesses 8 and 9 have reported sightings daily for the past week. Anyone walking a pet is reminded to keep it on a short leash and be prepared with a stick and or a noise maker to use to chase away the coyote. With many dogs being walked many times a day, the coyotes have become quite used to our routines, making many of us nervous about the walks.

Please always report any coyote sightings as soon as possible to the Torrance Police Department. They are mapping the coyote movements. The TPD non-emergency phone is 310-618-5641. Thank you! Submitted By: Ricki Decker

TRAVEL NEWS

What does music from “Star Wars”, “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, “The 1812 Overture”, and “E. T.” have in common? They are all part of the terrific summer afternoon concert to be presented at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on August 21st by the California Philharmonic Orchestra. These and other most memorable motion picture music scores, featuring many by film composer John Williams, are what we have in store when we spend a wonderful Sunday afternoon at Los Angeles’ iconic center of classical music. The program is entitled “The Grand Finale” and is the final offering of the Cal Phil 2016 summer concert series. As he has done many times in the past, Maestro Vener will offer a pre-concert lecture, in which he discusses the program he has selected. Needless to say, we will have reserved seating for this very special concert. Lunch will be on our own at L.A. Live. Cost will be $86.00. Again, the date is Sunday, August 21st. We will leave from the Clubhouse at 10:30 am and return around 6:00 pm. Questions? Comments? Call Ed Reilly at (310) 326-4710 or Sharon Rose at (310) 539-0811. AS IF COYOTES WEREN’T ENOUGH TO WORRY ABOUT!

Folding doors, where the door leaves move together, can be difficult for a child to use.But they can be dangerous for adults, too. Folding doors are what most of us have covering our washer and dryer. A while back, one resident pulled at the door to use her washer. The door came off from the spring attachment that’s fitted into the bottom runner. It fell on her, fracturing her back. Those doors are much, much heavier than you would think.

It was easy to dismiss this as a freak accident, but now another incident has been reported. A resident was sound asleep one night when a loud bang awakened him. His door had become dislodged and fell to the floor.

So please have someone check the security of your folding door mountings. They have been there for half a century and, just like us, can be “ready to drop.”
