We stand at the Crossroads of life for many people

Greetings from Vietnam……….

Dear parishioners and friends,

From 15-25th August, the Young Pas-sionists who have been Ordained less than 5 years gathered in Saigon, Vietnam, for a one week Conference.

The Conference was based on three main areas: sharing the challenges and experiences faced in ministries; individual well-being & growth; and the cultural experiences.

What can I say!!!!! Those of you who have been to Vietnam for vacations will know the experience and can relate. Every thing was fabulous!

The people, the place itself, the food, the Ordination; the humidity

was as high as a boiling pot, and , of course, you cannot escape the traffic!

I would not say Saigon was a New Jerusa-lem, but it was a wonderful place for all of us to reunite with other students from many other parts of the globe! Deacon Tony CP

REFLECTION “Pride Comes Before a Fall”

We have all heard this saying. This is a biblical expression, with the book of Proverbs carrying this very warning.

Perhaps we have allowed ourselves a wry smile when we have seen this truth played out in the lives of others. There is something satisfying in seeing someone who is all puffed up and haughty tak-en down a peg or two, we think.

Pride an be very subtle, though. Sometimes we are not aware of the effect it is having in our lives. When we focus on the faults of others and not our own, pride mat be at the root. When we are more interested how other people perceive us than we are about how God views us with tender love, that could be pride too.

When we are desperate for attention and respect and the adulation of others, that is surely pride. When we are presumptuous before God, rather than approaching God with fear and trembling, that has to be pride too.

Jesus gives us a concrete parable about pride in today’s Gospel but he surely wants us to go deeper, exploring the nuances of this in our lives. For, in rooting out our pride from our hearts and growing in humility, we will be allowing God to be exalted in us and through us.

A Father’s Day Story One night a father overheard his son pray:

“Dear God, make me the kind of man my Daddy is.”

Later that night, the Father prayed: “Dear God, make me the kind of man my Son wants

me to be.”

God, bless all fathers. Guide them to be good role models

and loving to all their children. Help them to be a father like you are.

Give them grace and patience to handle situations in a loving way.

AMEN
