CourseDescription:Biol230consistsof2weeklylectureswhichare1½hourslong.A3‐creditcourse.BIOL230iswhereemphasisisplacedonultrastructure,genetics,molecularbiology,physiologyandmetabolismofmicroorganisms;roleofmicroorganismsinfood,water,agriculture,biotechnology,infectiousdiseases,andimmunology.LearningStrategies:Activelearning,Blackboard,groupdiscussions,teamprojects,collaborativelearning,interactivelecturing,laboratoryexercises,demonstrationsExperientialLearningOpportunities:Inclassdiscussion,comprehensionandcriticalthinkingalongwithlaboratoryexperienceisessentialforafundamentalunderstandingofthescientificmethod.Thiscoursehasarequiredlaboratoryportionthatprovidesstudentswithexperientiallearningthroughexperimentaldesign,hypothesisdevelopment,datainterpretation,andcommunicationofresultsthroughlaboratoryreports.
