Waterford Beautification
A pleasant community appearance adds to home values, helps attract business investment,
and just improves the community reputation. Research shows beauty is one of the top three
factors in creating community attachment, or loyalty, to your particular town or city. Some
research even indicates an attractive neighborhood may lead to better behavior.
Just one community beautification project, such as a massive flower planting, new park
benches, streetscape lighting, can make a significant difference. The beautification committee
has been attacking one project at a time with the small funds they have raised over the past
serveral years. The secondary signs were installed, both gateway signs and landscaping was
accomplished. Many more projects are on the docket.
One of the major fundraisers is the Adopt-a-Planter program. Each person adopting will receive
a beautiful 26” high by 15” wide planter filled with lovely “Proven Winners” flowers to display in
front of your business with a sign proudly showing your support for Waterford Beautification.
Please support our efforts, one piece at a time, in beautifying our township.

Cottage Inn Pizza Waterford(Opening late May/early June 2015)
“A passion for pizza”By Andrew Manning
I’m not sure at what age I
tasted my first pizza, but I do
know it was ‘love at first
bite’. After starting my career
in the pizza business almost
17 years ago, the dream of
owning my own pizzeria has
finally come true. I am so
excited to share in this
adventure with Waterford
and the surrounding
communities.
Growing up in Farmington
Hills, I found myself applying at all the local pizzerias in town. My
first position was as a delivery driver and over the years, I
advanced through the ranks. At one point, I was recruited to open
two pizzerias in Florida, though my heart still belonged to
Michigan. Throughout my time in this business, I have cultivated
many friendships, business relationships, and even met my wife,
Vanessa. Vanessa and I have two beautiful daughters (Carly age
7, Claire 8 months).
Cottage Inn Pizza Waterford will be an owner operated business.
Rest assure when you visit our store, either Vanessa or myself will
greet you and even make your order fresh-to-go. Our dough is
made fresh every day and in our store. We offer many gourmet
toppings and sauces such as artichokes, roasted red peppers,
spinach, broccoli, alfredo sauce, pesto and Sweet Baby Rays
BBQ sauce. Also available is our delicious gluten free pizza,
breads and sandwiches.
This business is not just about having great food or outstanding
customer service or oodles of dough. This is about life, about
relationships and having a passion for both. Our mission, if you will,
is to grow within our community, to provide a safe and positive work
environment for our young adults, to provide our guests with the
highest quality of customer service and the gourmet experience
Cottage Inn Pizza has been offering since 1948.

What will YOuR kids be doing all summer?
School will be out for
the summer soon, but
you still have to work!
The Waterford School
District has 12 weeks
of summer vacation.
That is 12 weeks of
“What do I do with the
kids?” Do you employ a nanny, a teenager to baby sit, utilize a
daycare facility, send them to camp or maybe some mix of several
options? You want them to be busy and active. They want to have
some fun and spend time with friends. With several different
options available, how will you decide what to do with the kids this
summer?
For most families, a blend
of several options seems to
be the best solution.
Maybe you work out
arrangements with friends
and neighbors to have
sleepovers and play dates
some days. Other days you may need to hire a babysitter, or get
help from a family member. You might choose to send them to a
residential camp for a week, and maybe scatter a few weeks of
day camps throughout the summer. No matter what options work
best for you and your family, it’s always best to know what you’re
getting! One way to ensure you know what you are signing up for
is to preview the facilities you decide to use.
Any good facility will allow you to come in for a tour and check out
the site. Oakland Yard gives several tours to families throughout
the spring so parents and potential campers can get a feel for the
facility and programs. They also host a Camp Open House every
year and invite any interested families to come out at no cost.
During open house everyone has a great time! There are games
and contests hosted by the camp staff. This year they will have a
DJ keeping the atmosphere lively, fresh hot dogs on the grill, and
lots of prizes and giveaways. They will have a bon fire with s’mores,
and if the weather cooperates, the 200-foot slip-n-slide will be
ready for some wet and wild fun too! The Camp Director as well
as several members of the camp staff will be on hand facilitating,
keeping the kids having fun, and answering questions.
All families are invited to attend the Camp Open House at Oakland
Yard. Come enjoy great family fun on Friday, May 15 from 6-9:00
p.m. Oakland Yard is located at 5328 Highland Road. It’s on the
north side tucked behind Subway and Taco Bell. Call 248-673-0100 for more information or visit online
at www.oaklandyard.com.

Baker College of Auburn Hills – known forhigh-tech programs such as computernetwork technology, cyber security and CAD –can now also tout having the highest resolutionlight-emitting diode (LED) message sign in the
state. The new, U.S.-made sign will carry information aboutcampus events and, through an agreement with the City of AuburnHills, will also display emergency information provided by theAuburn Hills police department, such as Amber Alerts.
The clear image that supports photographs and other intricatedisplays is made possible by pixels spaced a mere 10mm apart. The sign has 900 pixels per square foot; 45,000 total pixels withinits 10-by-5 frame. In this case, more is definitely better.
Pete Karsten, Baker College of Auburn Hills President, says thisstate-of-the-art technology signage helps present a qualityimpression of the campus.
“The sign is easily programmed so it will carry crisp, easy-to-readand timely communication of campus events,” Pete said. “Theability to display Amber Alerts and other emergency information isalso an important usage for the sign.”
The ground-level sign is located at the main entrance of theAuburn Hills campus at 1500 University Dr., Auburn Hills. It wasmanufactured by Watchfire Signs, Danville, Illinois, and installed byAgnew Graphics Signs & Promotions, Owosso.

If you had died yesterday, would your family know what todo today? Why preplanning is one of the smartest decisionsyou will ever make
Chances are you have planned for many things in your life – homeand car insurance, healthcare, even retirement. But the benefits ofpreplanning your “final” plans are just as significant. The Mt. Elliott Cemetery Association, which includes All Saints andThe Preserve (an all-natural or “green” cemetery) in Waterford, hasseveral promotions available to Waterford Chamber membersthrough the month of June. By preplanning now you can savehundreds, or even thousands of dollars while also preserving yourpeace of mind.
Preplanning allows you to:1) Relieve your loved ones from making a sudden, emotional decision
Making final arrangements is far more difficult when a loved one hasjust passed than if you plan for it now. It is a difficult decision tomake during a time when family members and friends should beremembering others. There are more than 50 decisions that mustbe made in literally 24 hours to prepare for final arrangements anda funeral. 2) Make a smart financial decisionLike anything, burial and cremation costs also rise each year, anddouble every 8-10 years. Preplanning saves on these costs, andallows for either an up front payment, or an affordable payment planthat fits your budget. You can lock in your price now before pricesrise. Furthermore, with preplanning you are able to make decisionson your funeral plans. 3) Personally decide on the details of your memorialThese are decisions you can make now with your loved ones sothe choice is yours. Your family won’t have to guess as to what youwant because your arrangements will have already been made.
Making your final arrangements is the final act of love you can giveto your family. Your family may not understand its full impact untilthe day you die but they will understand what a thoughtful andlasting gift you left them during a period of mourning andremembrance.

Edward Jones Named the Highest-ranking
Financial-services Firm on Forbes Magazine's"America's Best Employers 2015" List
In its first-ever ranking of best employers, Forbes Magazine rated
Edward Jones the highest-ranking financial-services firm out of
the list of 500 companies spanning 27 industries in the
magazine's "America's Best Employers 2015" edition, according
to Hilary Renno, Edward Jones Financial Advisor.
The firm's overall ranking was No. 24 out of the 500 companies
on the list. More than 20,000 American workers at 3,500 large
companies and non-profit institutions were polled online and
asked how likely they would recommend their employers to
others and how likely they would recommend other employers
within their industries.
"We are proud of our associates and honored their feedback has
ranked us on the Forbes list of 500 best employers as highest
among financial services firms," said Edward Jones Managing
Partner, Jim Weddle. "Edward Jones strives to be a best place
for our associates to work and for our clients to receive help
accomplishing their life-long financial goals. Our work is
extremely satisfying - working together in partnership to make a
difference to our clients and each other."
This is the second prestigious ranking Edward Jones recently
received. Earlier in March, FORTUNE magazine named the firm
No. 6 on its "100 Best Companies to Work For 2015" list. That
was Edward Jones' 16th appearance on the list.
Edward Jones also appears on Forbes Magazine's largest
private companies list, which is based on net revenues. The firm
ranked No. 65 with, at the time of the ranking in 2014, $5.72
billion in net revenue. Today, the firm's net revenues are $6.3
billion.
Edward Jones, a Fortune 500 company, provides financial
services for individual investors in the United States and, through
its affiliate, in Canada. Every aspect of the firm's business, from
the types of investment options offered to the location of branch
offices, is designed to cater to individual investors in the
communities in which they live and work. The firm's 14,000-plus
financial advisors work directly with nearly 7 million clients.
Edward Jones, which ranked No. 6 on FORTUNE magazine's
100 Best Companies to Work For in 2015, is headquartered in
St. Louis. FORTUNE and Time Inc. are not affiliated with and do

Have you had a mortgage checkup lately?
We have seen a nice tick up in property values over the past year.
According to CoreLogic, the trend appears to be continuing where
property values will continue appreciating at a reasonable pace.
This is great news for all of us.
Having regular checkups by a doctor is a critical step to ensuring
health. The same concept holds true for one of your most important
financial investments: your mortgage.
Let’s discuss the following needs and concerns:
1) Did you obtain a Jumbo loan several years ago? Rates were
significantly higher on these loan types. It may behoove you to
consider refinancing.
2) Do you have a second mortgage you would like to consolidate
with the first?
3) Have you obtained your mortgage several years ago? It may be
beneficial to look at a term reduction and actually have a
payment reduction.
4) Did you do a mortgage with Lender Paid mortgage insurance or
do you pay private mortgage insurance? You may be able to
benefit with a significant rate reduction and have no PMI.
5) Did you get an FHA loan over the past couple of years? You
may be able to obtain a conventional mortgage with little or no
private mortgage insurance.
6) Are you planning on doing some improvements and do you need
a little cash to do so?
A lot of times, we get to thinking about these questions. And our
lives get busy, and then these questions end up on the back burner.
Viewing your mortgage as a financial instrument that can help you
save money and achieve other life goals, is a smart move. It all
begins with a mortgage checkup.

Huntington cited for highest customer satisfaction rating
Huntington Bank has been named the winner of the 2015 TNS
Choice Award for Consumer Retail Banking in the Central Region
of the U.S. This marks the third time Huntington has won the
recognition and led the Central Region. TNS presented the award
to Huntington for both attracting and retaining customers at rates
better than any of the top 15 banks in the Central region. TNS also
recognized Huntington as earning the highest overall customer
satisfaction rating, and as having the most favorably regarded bank
brand.
“We’ve made key investments to make banking more convenient
and build a culture that looks out for our customers. Winning the
TNS Choice Award for the third time in recent years is a great
example our strategies are working,” said Steve Steinour, Chairman,
President and Chief Executive Officer of Huntington.
“We are grateful to our customers for their recognition of our
bankers who deliver such outstanding service,” said Mary Navarro,
Huntington’s retail and business banking Director. “Our bankers are
focused on doing the right thing for our customers. They know a
good customer experience is about convenience as well as
knowing and understanding a customer’s needs. This recognition,
among others, continues to tell us that we are on the right track.”
“TNS Choice Awards are not about doing one thing well; they are
about putting many elements together in a way that yields success
in the marketplace,” said Joe Hagan, Senior Vice President of multi-
client programs at TNS and Manager of the TNS Choice Awards,
which are well-known in the industry for recognizing banks that
outperform their competitors in acquiring, retaining and developing
customers.
Huntington leads the Central Region, which consists of the following
20 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas,
Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri,
Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota,
Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin. Previous years won include 2012
and 2013.
Winners of the TNS Choice Award are determined by using data from
TNS’s multi-client research programs. These results are determined
using several different metrics, each providing an indication of how
individual firms are performing vis-à-vis their competitors. The award
goes to the one provider with the highest score.
