Fatherhood does not come with a manual, and reality teaches us that some fathers excel while others find it challenging. We ask for Your blessings for them all and forgiveness where it is needed. This Fathers Day we remember the many sacrifices fathers make for their children and families, and the ways—both big and small—they lift children to achieve dreams thought beyond reach. So too, we remember all those who have helped fill the void when fathers pass early or are absent; step fathers and foster fathers, grandfathers and uncles, brothers and cousins, teachers, priests and coaches and the women of our families. For those who are fathers, we ask for wisdom and humility in the face of the task of parenting. Give them the strength to do well by their children and by You. This weekend we would normally conduct the annual Father’s Day Appeal which goes towards supporting retired priests from the Archdiocese. It is to support those who have spent so many years supporting and guiding people throughout our Archdiocese.

Due to the continuing COVID-19 restrictions and Masses not being able to be said at Parishes, donations to this year’s Father’s Day appeal can be made through the Priests Retirement Foundation website.

Donations can be made by Parishioners through the Priests Retirement Foundation website via debit, credit card or Paypal where the donor’s details are loaded and receipts can be issued.

The site is https://www.cam.org.au/foundation.

This week we celebrate Child Protection Week. We will conclude this week with a Mass next weekend where we highlight our Parish’s work in maintaining and supporting our community.

St James the Apostle Parish is committed to the care, wellbeing and protection of children, young people and people at risk in our community. We uphold that child protection and the dignity of every person is the responsibility of every adult.

NATIONAL CHILD PROTECTION WEEK

For $5 per month, you can help with the wellbeing and education of children in Pakistan, Peru, Cuba and the Philippines through the Paulist Missionary Sponsorship program. Brochures available after Mass.

PAULIST MISSIONARY SPONSORSHIP

Congratulations to the following winners of the Father’s Day Raffle:

1st Prize: John Ware 2nd Prize: Frances Gillett 3rd Prize: Chris Lightfoot 4th Prize: Tessa Vaifale

The draw was witnessed by Fr Jude, Kevin Lloyd and Judy Porter. We sincerely thank everyone who participated by buying a ticket; it was a great effort especially since this all happened at a difficult time. As always, St James’ community and friends rallied and supported this fundraising effort with enthusiasm. The total amount raised is $2550 with all proceeds going towards the Church Extensions Fund.

We would especially like to thank those who helped make this fundraiser work – Frs Jude, Silvio and Mario, Annie Lam, Kevin Lloyd, St James Parish office staff and all who supported us in practical ways. We would also like to thank our schools, St James, St Francis, St Clare’s Primary schools and Thomas Carr College, and the school communities for their support and assistance - Jannine and Judy.

FATHER’S DAY RAFFLE RESULTS

During these unprecedented times and isolating situations, the St James Young Paulists are offering to reach out to our community by giving our parishioners a courtesy phone call during Reach Out Week, Mon 27 Sept—Sun 03 Oct.

Whether it be a short greeting, or a conversation to those in need for a chat for any issues or stories they would like to share or open up to. We will be happy to listen, and/or help out the best way we can.

For those who would like to receive a phone call from members of the Young Paulists Team, please contact the Parish Office on 9401 6367 or email [email protected]..

YOUNG PAULISTS PRESENT:

REACH OUT WEEK

As we continue to journey as a community in Lockdown, the Parish is still organising, supporting and reaching out to our community. Many initiatives continue including some conducted in the backgournd.

This week the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Coordinating Team are meeting online to continue to develop and organise their online program to continue assisting those who are journeying towards becoming a Catholic.

This past weekend the Parish’s Safeguarding Committee met online again to continually develop and review our Parish’s practices to maintain and further strengthen our parish as a Child Safe Environment.
