Employment Opportunity: St. George is looking to hire a
Virtus trained person for the after school program. If you are
interested, please contact Tammy Tyree at 573-619-5780.
Congratulations to Harlie Dunken, daughter of Sarah
Mengwasser and Aleksander Rowinski, Paige Loethen, daughter
of Neil and Heather Loethen, Kenzie Jurd, daughter of Chris and
Jessica Jurd and Albert Haslag son of Clayton and Genna
Haslag. These students are St. George School’s Warriors of the
month. They went above and beyond our mission of being Christ-
centered and Faith directed in all that they do.
This past week students participated in Adoration and
Benediction of the Holy Eucharist. Exposition and benediction of
the Blessed Sacrament is not only a very old devotion in our
Church, but one that highlights the fundamental mystery of the
Holy Eucharist that our Lord is truly present, body and blood, soul
and divinity, in the Blessed Sacrament.
DECREE FROM BISHOP MCKNIGHT
On August 21, 2020, Bishop McKnight provided an
updated Decree on pastoral activities during the COVID-19
pandemic. You can see the full decree on the diocesan
website or the St. George Facebook page. The dispensation
from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and holy days
of obligation is extended until November 27, 2020 provided
they prayerfully participate in the Sunday or Holy Day Mass
livestreamed from their parish, the Cathedral, the Vatican, or
any Mass of the day celebrated in communion with the
Roman Catholic Church, or they prayerfully read and
meditate on the readings of the Mass for the Sunday or holy
day and recite the Rosary or Divine Mercy Chaplet.
Other changes from the previous decree include: The use
of face masks upon entering the church, during the
celebration of Mass except when in place in the pew,
during the Communion procession, and upon leaving the
church is required. If social distancing cannot be
maintained in the pew, then the wearing of face masks is
obligatory even in the pew. Those who persist in their desire
to receive Holy Communion on the tongue may do so, but
only after those who receive Holy Communion in the hand.
Communion ministers must purify and then sanitize their
fingers after distributing Holy Communion on the tongue to
each household. All public health recommendations of state
authorities should be followed whenever possible, especially
with regard to singing in church, according to the judgment of
the pastor, parochial administrator, president, or principal.
The new decree is effective September 12 – November 27.
ST. GEORGE FALL FESTIVAL
We will be hosting a modified version of our Fall Festival
this year on Sunday, October 4. We will include a drive-
through dinner available 11am – 7pm of fried chicken and
German pot roast. The meal will not include desserts or
homemade bread so those donations from each family will
not be needed. We will have a cash raffle, the quilt auction,
and the beer garden/soda stand. There will be no kids
games, Bingo, country store, or sandwich stand, but many of
those workers will be needed in other areas. This event will
require many hands to keep things running smoothly. We
appreciate the support of all the parishioners to help make
this event a success. If you have questions on the work list,
you can contact the parish office.
FALL FESTIVAL AUCTION
Due to all the necessary changes to our Fall Festival, this
year we will begin our auction online via the St. George
Catholic Church Facebook page located at
www.facebook.com/stgeorgeparishlinn. Bidding will begin
during the last half of September, so if you have any items to
donate for inclusion in the auction, they must be turned in
the parish office by Friday, September 11. If you have any
questions, you can contact the quilt auction chairs Laura
Bittle or Edna Kliethermes.
HONOR PATH WAY
Remembering the Past and Honoring the Present engraved
memorial bricks are available for purchase. Engraved bricks
will be located at the corner of 12th and Adams Street at the
VFW & Auxiliary Hall. 4”x8” bricks are $100 and 8”x8”
bricks are $200. For details or to purchase a brick, please
contact Valora at 573-897-2403.
LIFE OF A SAINT- ST. CLOUD
On the death of Clovis, King of the Franks, in the year 511
his kingdom was divided between his four sons, of whom the
second was Clodomir. Thirteen years later he was killed
fighting against his cousin, Gondomar, leaving three sons to
share his dominions. The youngest of these sons of Clodomir
was St. Clodoald, a name more familiar to English people
under its French form of Cloud from the town of Saint-
Cloud near Versailles. When Cloud was eight years old, his
uncle Childebert plotted with his brother, to get rid of the
boys and divide their kingdom. The eldest boy, Theodoald
was stabbed to death. The second, Gunther fled in terror, but
was caught and also killed. Cloud escaped and was taken for
safety into Provence or elsewhere. Childebert and his brother
Clotaire shared the fruits of their crime, and Cloud made no
attempt to recover his kingdom when he came of age. He put
himself under the discipline of St. Severinus, a recluse who
lived near Paris, and he afterwards went to Nogent on the
Seine and had his heritage where is now Saint-Cloud. St.
Cloud was indefatigable in instructing the people of the
neighboring country, and ended his days at Nogent about the
year 560 when he was some thirty-six years old. St.
Cloud's feast day is September 7th.
