His response, issued under an official SAPS letterhead, left the news team flabbergasted as it could only be construed as a vicious and unfounded racial attack on the newspaper and one of its journalists, who had submitted the enquiry. The media enquiry, sent through on Monday, 13 July, related to the recent incident where one of a group of thugs was shot dead on the farm of Dr Lappies Labuschagne, as well as an incident where a local female resident was brutally hit in the face with a brick by an unknown assailant in broad daylight. The enquiry also referred to statistics obtained from the Soutpansberg Dorpswag, as frequent weekly updates about crime in the area are not forthcoming from the police. Readers may recall that a moratorium was placed on local police services’ issuing crime statistics years ago. The media enquiry was followed up by journalist Isabel Venter last Tuesday via a telephone call to Ramovha. With- out provocation, Ramovha exploded into a fit of rage, especially when statistics obtained from the Soutpansberg Town Watch were mentioned. “No, no, no … The information you are getting from town watch … there is only one police institution in this country, according to the constitution … That town watch you are talking about is null and void, does not exist!” Ramovha said. Just prior to this remark, Ramovha stated that, with reference to the town watch, “their issue is to work in the Apartheid era, which is not allowed.” With reference to his extreme unhappiness about “white” residents’ reporting criminal activity to the town watch and not the police, Ramovha also remarked: “The issue of white people that does not want to be led by black people … they must go to Europe.” Ramovha then went on to attack the Zoutpansberger, in the process subject- ing Venter to almost seven minutes of verbal abuse. During the latter part of the telephone conversation, Ramovha was shouting so much that it was difficult to understand what he was saying. “Your newspaper is racist! Isabel, your news- paper is racist!” Ramovha shouted. He apparently justified this remark by stating: “Whatever you want to write about black people you write in Afrikaans so that black people won’t be able to understand.” All through the conversation, Venter remained calm but was not allowed to respond or explain the media enquiry. When she was allowed to speak, she was promptly interrupted by Ramovha. “I am bringing my response to you and you must print it in the newspaper. I must see it in the newspaper,” Ramovha eventually stat- ed near the end of the conversation. The conversation was eventually concluded, but not before Ramovha even went so far as to threaten Venter. “I’m telling you personally, I am opening a case against you … I am not kidding!” What the basis for such a case might be, is uncertain. True to his word, a written response was received from Ramovha later that same day, although he did not drop it off personally at the office of the Zoutpans- berger. Unbelievably, Ramovha basically just continued where he left off from the telephone conversation. “Quite more in- teresting, Zoutpansberger is an Afrikaans white speaking people newspaper and you like things that influence racial discrimina- tion. We don’t expect this kind of attitude whilst we are in 20 years of democracy when a kind of newspaper report like this [sic],” he states in his response, among other things. In his written response, Ramovha also launches a personal attack on Venter. “Is- abel Venter only report bad things towards the police in Afrikaans, knowing that the majority of people who does not know Afrikaans will not understand. We have serious challenge with white community in that most of these cases are reported to Dorpwag and later we will informed by Dorpwag and in most cases, they give us the wrong address [sic],” he writes. Limpopo police confi rm launching immediate internal investigation into conduct of police commander

Racist remarks furore

a “pet” - page 2

Racism in the police was put in the spotlight once again over the past week with the provincial offi ce of the SAPS confi rming that they have launched an internal investigation into the conduct of Makhado SAPS station commander Col Francois Ramovha.

This follows a press release he issued last Tuesday in response to a media en-quiry from the Zoutpansberger regarding an apparent increase in crime, more specifi cally violent crime, in and around Louis Trichardt. His response, issued under an offi cial SAPS letterhead, left the news team fl abbergasted as it could only be construed as a vicious and unfounded racial attack on the newspaper and one of its journalists, who had submitted the enquiry.

With-out provocation, Ramovha exploded into

a fi t of rage, especially when statistics obtained from the Soutpansberg Town Watch were mentioned. “No, no, no … The information you are getting from town watch … there is only one police institution in this country, according to the constitution … That town watch you are talking about is null and void, does not exist!” Ramovha said. Just prior to this remark, Ramovha stated that, with reference to the town watch, “their issue is to work in the Apartheid era, which is not allowed.” With reference to his extreme unhappiness about “white” residents’ reporting criminal activity to the town watch and not the police, Ramovha also remarked: “The issue of white people that does not want to be led by black people … they must go to Europe.”

Ramovha then went on to attack the Zoutpansberger, in the process subject-ing Venter to almost seven minutes of verbal abuse. During the latter part of the telephone conversation, Ramovha was shouting so much that it was diffi cult to understand what he was saying. “Your newspaper is racist! Isabel, your news-paper is racist!” Ramovha shouted. He apparently justifi ed this remark by stating: “Whatever you want to write about black people you write in Afrikaans so that black people won’t be able to understand.”

All through the conversation, Venter remained calm but was not allowed to respond or explain the media enquiry. When she was allowed to speak, she was promptly interrupted by Ramovha. “I am bringing my response to you and you must print it in the newspaper. I must see it in the newspaper,” Ramovha eventually stat-

ed near the end of the conversation. The conversation was eventually concluded, but not before Ramovha even went so far as to threaten Venter. “I’m telling you personally, I am opening a case against you … I am not kidding!” What the basis for such a case might be, is uncertain.

True to his word, a written response was received from Ramovha later that same day, although he did not drop it off personally at the offi ce of the Zoutpans-berger. Unbelievably, Ramovha basically just continued where he left off from the telephone conversation. “Quite more in-teresting, Zoutpansberger is an Afrikaans white speaking people newspaper and you like things that infl uence racial discrimina-tion. In his written response, Ramovha also launches a personal attack on Venter. “Is-abel Venter only report bad things towards the police in Afrikaans, knowing that the majority of people who does not know Afrikaans will not understand. We have serious challenge with white community in that most of these cases are reported to Dorpwag and later we will informed by Dorpwag and in most cases, they give us the wrong address [sic],” he writes.

The Zoutpansberger, following the telephone conversation and Ramovha’s subsequent press release, brought the matter to the attention of the SAPS’s provincial offi ce, with a request to meet with the provincial management urgently. (Contd on P2)

Beatie de Gouveia is a registered clinical counsellor who can provide meaningful assis-tance. She recently relocated to Louis Trichardt and decided to provide her professional services here in the Soutpansberg. She is a vibrant and energetic person, born with a passion to help people.

Growing up, there was no other career that she could envision for herself. Therefore, when she started her studies, she concentrated not only on becoming booksmart, but also on getting as much hands-on knowledge as she could.

Beatie believes that, through therapy, she can accompany clients on the journey of healing and fi nding one’s authentic core through self-expres-sion and using a method she trained in, called ee-Moon-ee-Shee.

Sometimes people come for counselling and they are not exactly sure of the precise reason or specifi c problem – they just know that things do not feel quite right. They may feel stressed, sad, anxious, depressed, and lonely or they simply want more for themselves, their relationships, and their lives. “When people can identify their problem, we can work together to come up with solutions,” explains Beatie.

Beatie specialises in a broad spectrum of disorders and has a special interest in treating mental illness, schizophrenics and bipolar cases.

She also organises group sessions for people struggling with stress and social anxiety. For patients who are home bound, Skype sessions can be organised to assist them in overcoming their fears in a practical manner.

If there is a case where medicinal intervention is required, she will also be happy to make the proper referral, but not before some counselling sessions have taken place. Local companies can also seek out her advice to help with corporate counselling and motivating employees.

Beatie can be contacted for an appointment at 076 891 1887 or visited at her counselling rooms situated at 76 Munnik Street.

A new restaurant in town is always worth a visit. Corner Grill, on the corner of Krogh and Landdros Street (the old Spur), recently opened its doors and is no exception.

Anel Wood, the owner, is a native of Louis Trichardt who returned after more than 10 years of gaining experience and skills in the hospitality industry to open this promising estab-lishment.

The a la carte menu offers lovely starters, main courses and desserts, such as grilled meats, pizzas and pasta dishes. According to Anel, the spare ribs are especially popular. The children have their own menu and a special room has been created for them, where they can play games or watch movies under the watchful eyes of their parents.

New specials are offered every week and the take-away

menu allows for free deliver-ies between 12:00 and 20:00. Corner Grill is licensed and the good news for beer lovers is that the draught machine was delivered this week. Breakfast is served and platters are prepared for special functions. Anel also

caters for functions if required to do so. The prices are very rea-sonable and the service is good.

For more information, visit their website or consult Funk-mail. The phone numbers are 015 516 0342 or 082 4954527 to contact them for more details.

(Contd from P1)It was indicated to them that the Zout-

pansberger would, for the time being, refrain from writing about the incident to afford the police the opportunity to comment and investigate the matter. The police were unable to arrange such a meeting last week.

The matter was followed up this week, with the Zoutpansberger asking the pro-vincial police spokeperson, Col Ronel

Otto, for an offi cial response with regard to Ramovha’s conduct. She responded on Tuesday by stating: “The provincial management of the SAPS in Limpopo views this conduct in a serious light and an immediate and thorough internal investigation has been launched.” Upon receiving this response, the Zoutpans-berger enquired what immediate action had been taken against Ramovha and if the SAPS would retract Ramovha’s media

statement. The Zoutpansberger also asked to be included in the investigation as the newspaper would not let Ramovha’s racial remarks and unfounded alegations go un-challenged. Otto confi rmed receipt of the follow-up enquiry on Wednesday, saying that it had been handed to the provincial general and that she was awaiting further instructions from him. At the time of our going to press, a response had yet to be received.

Court News

Heavy sentence for man who only wanted a “pet”The man who was caught with a live pangolin in his possession about a year ago pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him.

Victor Mulalo Ratombo (37) of Tho-hoyandou was arrested on 8 October last year after the Makhado Police discovered the pangolin, wrapped in a mealie meal bag, in the back of his vehicle. At the time it was suspected that Ratombo had tried to sell the pangolin, which is a very rare animal, at the taxi rank where he was

arrested. Following his arrest, the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) took guardianship of the pangolin and saw to it that it was released in a nature reserve.

Apart from the fact that pangolins are extremely rare and a protected species, they are more threatened than rhinos. The value of a pangolin (on the black market) is estimated at around R150 000. A pangolin is also, as far as possible, sold or smuggled alive. In terms of Limpopo conservation laws, the pangolin is listed as a specially protected animal.

Ratombo’s defence was that he was not aware of the pangolin’s protected status. During his fi rst court appearance last year, Ratombo said that he had discovered the animal in a fi eld and decided to pick it up and take it home to keep it as a pet.

Ratombo pleaded guilty and was sen-tenced to a fi ne of R40 000 or a term of three years’ imprisonment, of which 18 months were suspended by the Waterval Magistrate’s Court.

Louis Trichardt is presently abuzz with activity as construction workers are busy refurbishing several of the town’s streets.

For years, residents had to endure driving on badly dilapidated streets, causing frustration and damage to vehicles. This prompted the Makhado Municipality to allocate R13,7 million for the refurbishment of several of the town’s worst-af-fected streets.

Since March, work has started on these streets, which include Ruh, Celliers and Tshirululuni Street. The latest street to be ripped up and be refurbished is Hlanganani Street, with construction work starting last week.

Overall, residents seem to welcome the construc-tion work, despite its causing minor inconvenience. Almost all the people the Zoutpansberger spoke to who live along streets currently under construction

Streets on track to be completed on time

said they were willing to endure the discomfort as they would soon have decent streets to drive on again. They all had high praise for the con-tractors conducting the work, especially with regard to the quick pace at which the refurbish-ment project is taking place. “It also looks like they know what they are doing,” was the general feeling.

The Makhado Munic-ipality’s spokesperson was asked this week if all the current contracts were on schedule to be completed within the specified contract time.

Judging by his response, it would seem that some of the contracts might be completed even sooner. In April this year, Bobodi stated that the comple-tion date for Ruh Street would be in September. On Tuesday this week, however, he indicated a completion date of 14 August for Ruh Street, as well as Celliers Street. As for Tshirululuni and Hlanganani Street, the completion date is end of September this year. In all instances the contractor appointed for the refurbishment of the street is Mkhacane Construction.

Ask if any other streets in town were earmarked for refurbishment, Bobodi indicated that no other streets were to be refurbished under the current contract. This was not to say that no further refur-bishment is to take place in the near future, but the indication is that this will be looked at upon the completion of the current project.

Construction work on Ruh Street is already at an advanced stage as part of the Makhado Municipality’s street refurbishment project at a cost of R13,7 million.

The latest street to be ripped up to be refurbished is Hlanganani Street alongside the N1, with construction work starting last week. The project has a completion date for the end of September this year.

Developer can go on, if requirements are metThe developer of the planned motor city on a piece of land next to the Louis Trichardt Cricket Club can go ahead with the development as soon as they can verify whether the development requires authorization in terms of the new Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) regulations.

This was the recommendations of the provincial Department of Economic Development, Environ-ment and Tourism, following their report on the investigation into the proposed development. The investigation was conducted after an objection was received from Ms Inga Gilfillan, a local member of both the Chairpersons and the Ratepayers As-sociation, against the development. The gist of her objection was that the development is “illegal/unlawful” as it would lead to the “destruction of

indigenous trees in the sensitive greenbelt area at Louis Trichardt.”

The development is to be conducted by well-known local businessman Mr Rampie Gilfillan and comprises a Ford dealership, Kia dealership, Spur, wash bays, a food court and parking bays on a 2,4 hectare piece of land adjacent to the cricket field.

In their investigation, the department indicated that according to the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) and EIA regulations, any person undertaking a listed activity is obliged to conduct an environmental assessment to identi-fy the development impact on the environmental quality and human life and obtain environmental authorization from the competent authority. “In the present case, the developer, Mr R Gilfillan, has con-sistently shown his appreciation and understanding of the requirements of environmental legislation by enquiry from the competent authority about the development/activity he wants to undertake,” the report read.

This was in response to Mr Gilfillan’s obtaining a letter from the department on 23 July 2014 to inform him that the proposed development was not listed in terms of the EIA regulations as published on 18 June 2010, and as such the development deemed no environmental authorisation prior to commencement. “It should be borne in mind that the developer failed to commence with his activity/development when the EIA regulations of 18 June 2010 were still in effect, as a result he is now ex-pected to fulfill the requirements of the [new] EIA regulations 4 December 2014 prior commencement of his activity,” the report states. This in effect means that the development cannot commence until the EIA requirements of 4 December 2014 are met.

At face value it would seem that construction work on the site has already started, without Mr Gil-fillan’s fulfilling the requirements of the new EIA regulations. This aspect was, however, thoroughly investigated by the department. Their investigation found that the current work on site is for the con-struction of seating stand for fans of the cricket

club. The department also found that the clearance of the site’s grass was for routine maintenance of the cricket ground surroundings and that it does not constitute an offence in terms of NEMA. No evidence could also be found that any of the trees identified in the proposed development plan to be removed or destroyed, had as yet been destroyed. As such, the department concluded that there is no evidence to support claims that Mr Gilfillan had commenced with the “illegal” development. “The department dismisses this case because the current activities occurring at the site do not constitute an offence in terms of section 49A and others sections of NEMA,” the department concludes.

Reacting to the report and her case being dis-missed, Ms Gilfillan was obviously disappointed. She said that she was not necessarily against all

development, but that when development took place, people should make sure that it was done in a fair and transparent manner. That, she said, included making sure that the developer complied with all the requirements of NEMA and EIA reg-ulations, both for present developments and future developments.

In his response to the findings of the report, Mr Gilfillan said that they had adhered to all requirements expected of them from the start. As for the new EIA regulations that came into effect in December last year, Mr Gilfillan said that they had already started the process of enquiring from the department what requirements they needed to fulfil to continue with the development. At present, he said, they were awaiting a response from the department in this regard.

Kerknuus

Van links is me.

Senior Chief Warrant Officer of the South African Air Force (SAAF) Dan Tshabalala has praised the Warrant Officers (WOs) of AFB Makhado for what he described as their genuine support and team spirit shown in caring for people living with disabilities.

He was speaking during the handing over of a wheelchair held at AFB Makhado on 17 July 2015. Tshabalala handed over the wheelchair to Mr Mu-raga Wilson Mphila of Madombidzha (Sinthumule) as part of the 67 minutes for Madiba project.

Mr Mphila, accompanied by his wife, Mrs Esther Tshimangadzo Mphila, thanked the leadership of the base as he received the wheelchair. “Thank you so much,” he said with tears in his eyes.

Tshabalala also urged all WOs of the SAAF, and in particular of AFB Makhado, to find ways to give back to the community, particularly needy people,

as a way to thank them. The 68-year-old Mr Mphila was a staff member

of the SAAF on 01 May 1984. His contribution at the base dates back to when he was a cleaner, groundsman and a motor mechanic at both 400 MAU and the Service Bay, now the MT Workshop. He worked for the SAAF for a period of 28 years until his retirement in 2012, due to sickness. A former colleague and section head of Mr Mphila, WO Gerard Bloem, started at the service bay as an apprentice. Bloem described Wilson as a passion-ate, committed and experienced motor mechanic who taught him a lot about how to service vehicles.

Regimental Sergeant Major of AFB Makhado Marius Nortje thanked the WOs’ Club for their support in making the project a success. The wheelchair was purchased at Du Toit’s Pharmacy in Louis Trichardt at a cost of R1 900.

Register early to secure your placeRegistration is now open for the Subtrop Marketing Symposium, which will take place on 4 November at the Ingwenyama Conference and Sports Resort in White River, and judging by last year’s record attendance it is advisable to register early.

“Players in the South African subtropical fruit and nut industries, including growers, packers, processors, marketers and retailers, will hear expert insights into the current state of these industries, the impact of local economic conditions on their per-formance, and the opportunities that exist for trade locally and abroad,” said Suptrop in a media release.

Subtrop manages the affairs of the SA Avocado, Litchi, Macadamia and Mango Growers’ Associa-tions, and the Subtrop Marketing Symposium has become an annual highlight on these industries’ calendars. So much so that the conference was sold out last year. As seating is once again limited, delegates are advised to register early this year.

Early bird registrations are available at R200 for members and R450 for non-members until midnight, 16 October. Registration fees after 16

October will be charged at R300 for members and R600 for non-members. Registration fees will cover not only all conference presentations but also coffee breaks, lunch and a braai in the evening.

Enquiries related to the symposium should be directed to Lizette de Wet at Subtrop and payment confirmation can be sent by fax: 086 615 7772 or e-mail [email protected]

The Musina Annual Show, which started yesterday (Thursday) and ends tomorrow (Saturday), promises to be a thriller not to be missed.

The local municipality is optimistic that this show will be on everybody’s lips long after the exhibitors have disassembled their stalls. Musina Annual Show targets audiences across the cultural spectrum through classic advertising, publicity and trade exchanges, delivering a very high volume worth of exposure.

The fact that a large percentage of consumers tend towards cash buying means exhibitors enjoy improved cash flow as a direct result, with fol-low-up business after the show - adding a valuable rounding off of this powerful marketing exercise.

The spokesperson for the municipality, Mr Wil-son Dzebu, says the show gives an opportunity to exhibitors, ranging from companies to government institutions, to market their products directly to the public.

“This is an ideal platform for small businesses to network with government institutions, compa-nies and other organizations which may consider

appointing them as service providers. There will be irresistible attractions which include exhibitions, ranging from vehicle displays to food, a traditional village and manufacturers of different products, to name but a few. Fun lovers will enjoy enter-tainment in the form of merry-go-round, jumping castles, traditional dances, musangwe (traditional boxing), wrestling, theatre, drum majorettes and music festivals.”

Dzebu says apart from exhibiting products and entertainment, the show puts the municipality on the national map because everyone knows that there is something happening in Musina. “It also boosts our economic development because there will be lots of trading taking place here.”

Musicians who will entertain fun lovers during the show include Busiswa, Thebe, Dj Heavy K, KO & Ma’E, Mizo, Percy Mukwevho, Bellafonte, Dream Team, DJ Fisherman, DJ C’ndo, NaakMu-siq, Black Motion, Dj Shimza, Ricus Nel, Liza Bronner, Jay, Complexion & Bambo, Worship House, Taki & Rofhiwa, Zozo and artists from Musina.

Menacing puffadder finds new home

A member of the school governing body of Madaheni Combined School, Mr David Ramovha from Makhitha Village, recently found a puffadder in his store room. He was worried that the snake would die in the shed. During the month of December, he usually keeps pigs in a pen adjacent to the store room and when he feeds the pigs, the rats share the food source. This is what attracted the snake, but with no pigs during the rest of the year, there will be no rats for the snake to eat. Ramovha contacted Ms Judy van Schalkwyk from WESSA EcoSchools to come and rescue the snake. Fortunately, Mr Oldrich van Schalkwyk from the Lajuma Research Centre could help out and the female snake was released in the Soutpansberg. For more information on EcoSchools, any individual or organisation is welcome to contact Ms Van Schalkwyk at [email protected].

Die Weg, die Waarheid en die Lewe

Openbaring 2:8-11

In Deut.

Is jy ‘n Christen?

Dan gaan ek rustig my toon-naels verf en my nuutste boek begin lees. Ek gaan báíe goed wees vir myself. Maar miskien as die man hom mooi gedra, sal ek jou swaer toelaat om die middag ‘n T-bone te braai. Wil julle oorkom?”

Daisy giggel.

“Ek is tot in my kleintoontjies toe geskok!” spot Daisy.

Ousus bly ‘n rukkie stil.

“Ek het geweet jy sal my inspireer, Ousus. Wat ‘n liefl ike gedagte! Ek praat sommer nou met die matrone.”

Twee dae later kry Daisy ‘n ongewone oproep van haar sus af.

“Dêmmit Daisy, plaas jy nooit vir my gevra het wat my planne is vir Mandela se verjaarsdag nie.

Daisy sluk amper haar tong in.

“Laat ek net so bietjie dink ...

Amidst the Proteas’ tour of Bangladesh, local cricketers also took to the field in the next round of the Limpopo Dairy 20/20 league in Louis Trichardt.

The game between Limpopo Dairy and GM was a closely contested one.

GM batted first and only managed to put 102 runs on the scoreboard before they were bowled out. The only two batsmen who managed to get to double figures were Irfan Chanhiel (21) and Ikram Patel (18). The Limpopo bowlers who performed the best were Gerhard, who took two wickets for the loss

GM secures a narrow four run win in clash

of eight runs in three overs, and TJ Smi,t who took one wicket for the loss of 12 runs in three overs.

Limpopo might have thought the score easy to chase, but that proved not to be the case, with GM ending up winning the game by four runs. With only 98 runs on the board, Limpopo were bowled out, due to some magnificent bowling. As with GM, only two batsmen got to double figures, namely Leon Olwage (23) and TJ Smit (28). For GM, bowler Mustak Patel was devastating, taking five wickets for the loss of 22 runs in his four overs. He was well supported by Yasar Delawala, who took two wickets for the loss of 14 runs in four overs.

In the other match, the Werda Toyota Vikings came up against the Lukeman team. Lukeman batted first and managed to rack up 160 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. Top per-formers with the bat were Sandeep Patel, scoring 49 runs off 52 balls, and Salman Kara hitting a quick 48 runs in 36 balls. The Vikings bowlers who stood out were Morné Olwage, taking three wickets for the loss of 34 runs in his four overs, and Shameel Govenor, who took two wickets for the loss of two runs in one over.

Vikings took to the field and started chasing the score immediately. Batsman Warno Smit excelled, scoring a very, very fast 60 runs off only 22 balls. He was well supported by Craig Viljoen, who hit 21 of 19 balls. Smit’s runs, however, were enough to secure a good foundation and the Vikings took victory in 18.3 overs with 161 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets, winning by four wickets. Top performer in the bowling team was Imram Bhatia, who took two wickets for the loss of 33 runs in four overs. Lukeman MS also took two wickets, but for the loss of 32 runs in 2.3 overs.

Motorcycling News

Louis Trichardt is honoured to host the Soutpansberg 400 that will form a round of the Totpak National Offroad Motorcycle and Quad Championships, as well as a round of the Raslouw Academy Junior National Championship on the weekend of 1 August.

“It is the fi rst time in decades that a national off-road race will take place in the Louis Trichardt area and with the two series already past the halfway mark, enthusiasts and spectators can expect lots of exciting racing action on their doorstep,” says Dirt Racing (promoters of the national championships) in a press release.

Competitors from all over the country and as far as the Cape, Port Elizabeth, East London, Queenstown and the Free State, as well as Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Ballito, Richard’s Bay, Matatiele in KwaZulu-Natal and Norhwest and Gauteng will

travel to Louis Trichardt to tackle the third-last round of the Totpak National Championship. It is also the penultimate round of the Junior National Championship, while the event will also form a round of the Northern Regions Championship.

“And while competitors will travel across the country to compete, a few ‘local’ riders from Louis Trichardt, Polokwane and Tzaneen will hope to produce some good results on their home turf,” said Dirt Racing. These include Stefan “Swanie” Swanepoel from Louis Trichardt. He will aim for good results in front of his home crowd. He is currently second in the Q1 Quad Championship and would like to add another victory to his name. Then there is André Park from Musina in action in the Q1 Quad Class Championship, and the 16-year old Wilmari Moller from Tzaneen, who will not have to travel too far to try and keep her lead

in the Combined Ladies Class Championship. She has won the Ladies Quad Class already twice this year and aims for this title as well.

The Soutpansberg 400 is being organised by Peet and Alice Swanepoel, in conjunction with local organisations and individuals. The race will take place at the Aloe Rock MX track adjacent to the N1 north, about eight kilometres outside Louis Trichardt and will consist of two 60km loops and a 20km loop for the juniors.

Motorcycle and quad competitors will tackle the two different 60km loops on Saturday between 07:30 and 08:00.

This time trial will determine the starting order for the race that will start at 10:30.

In the junior category, the young motorcycle riders be-

tween the ages of seven and 14 years will start their two hour race at 08:00, while the junior quad riders will race at 12:00.

There will be lots of action at the start/fi nish and service points as competitors will go through the same service point after completing each 60km loop.

There are seven classes in the motorcycle and quad categories where riders will have to complete the full race distance (total of six laps) – the 60 km time-trial, followed by two of the same loops when the main race starts, before swopping loops and doing the second loop also three times. There

will be lots of spectator points while food and refreshments will be served during the day.
