On Sunday 7th July, CMCS are running a water station at the Jane Tomlinson 10k.

We do this yearly and it's a very rewarding and fun morning! If any pupils or staff members are interested in helping out on the day, please see Mr Dixon or Mrs Holdsworth to register your interest. Remember, you don't have to be in Tomlinson House to volunteer.

Thank you and we look forward to signing as many people up as possible!

Three brothers live in a farm. They agreed to buy new seeds. Adam and Ben would go and Charlie stayed to protect the fields. Ben bought 75 sacks of wheat in the market whereas Adam bought 45 sacks. At home, they split the sacks equally. Charlie paid £1400 for the wheat.

How much money did Ben and Adam get of the sum, considering the equal split of the sacks?

Draw a line to connect both 1s, draw a line to connect both 2s and so on.

The lines can't cross or go out of the rectangle.

PRIMARY PHASE UPDATE

R E C E P T I O NWe have had a great two weeks back at school as we have entered our final half term in Reception. We have been focusing our learning in particular around houses and developing our understanding of non-fiction books. We have enjoyed sharing facts about our own homes and learning about our peers, comparing similarities and differences. As we begin to transition into Year 1 we have been changing our routines slightly to support our understanding of the expectations when we move to Year 1. We are all very excited for our new adventures on our learning journey in our education and have been sharing our thoughts with our peers. We have begun to develop our reading fluency by focusing our attention on answering specific questions about a text. Reception - can you show your adult how we become ‘copycat reporters’ and describe what the story you are reading with your adult is about?

Y E A R 1What a great start we have had to our final half term. We have started learning about the UK, where it is in the world, what are the capital cities and the surrounding seas. We are now comparing it with Japan. On Monday, we had a Japanese inspiration day where we tried fan dancing, learnt some Japanese, made some origami and wrote some Japanese symbols. In English we have been writing persuasive texts and have written an interesting piece persuading Mrs Harkness to let us go to Japan on a school trip! In Maths we have been learning about numbers to 100; counting, reading, writing and partitioning numbers into tens and ones. Can your child show you how to use a part whole model to split numbers into tens and ones?We have a change to our timetable and starting from Monday 24th June, Y1BS will have PE on Wednesdays and Fridays and Y1LM will be doing PE on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Don't forget your PE kits!

Y E A R 2Year 2 have had a great time in school lately, learning all about the Maasai tribe in Kenya for our big topic question, 'Is there really no place like home?' We have looked at the similarities and differences between the life of the Maasai and the life of people living in England. We have also enjoyed discussing the weather in the capital of Kenya, Nairobi and the capital of England, London. Year 2 have also been practising the infamous jumping dance that the Maasai do to show status and hierarchy in the village and for One World Day we have been learning the Swahili song 'jambo bwana'. In Maths we have been learning to tell the time to quarter to and quarter past the hour and have been challenging our learning further by starting to tell the time to five minutes. In English lessons we have been writing our own version of the story Lila and the Secret of Rain and have just started to learn about the big five animals in Africa in order to write non-chronological reports.

Y E A R 3What an amazing few weeks back Year 3 - who can believe this is your final half term in Year 3?We have been extremely busy kick starting our new big topic question, participating in drowning prevention week and learning our performance for One World Day! Alongside this, we have

been learning about time in Maths, biographies in English and still continued with French, PE and computing! A very busy few weeks which are only going to get busier. Keep it up Year 3 - your attitude and determination are amazing!

Y E A R 44PG have had a busy few weeks! We have been learning the national anthem as part of our wonderful One World Day celebration. The children have also been working very hard on their multiplications with extra sessions in the computer suite in preparation to trial the new statutory Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). The test will be compulsory for all Year 4 children in 2020 and we are very lucky to have a sneak preview before it is rolled out across the country. The children are getting used to their new timetable as they start to transition from Year 4 to Year 5, which means more lessons up at the Secondary Phase including Science, Music, French, PE and Computing. For the big learning question, ‘Is there no place like home?’ Miss Arnott (Leeds Trinity) will be carry on comparing Leeds and London and also looking at Whitby. We will also be investigating the similarities and differences between the rivers Thames and Aire. Well done Year 4 - one final push to summer; make us all proud!

Y E A R 5The last couple of weeks have been a lot of fun in Year 5! The children have been practising their carnival samba rhythms using different percussion instruments and practising their carnival dance routine ready for One World Day. The children are really enjoying their big learning question, ‘Why is Brazil in the news again?’ In class, we have been performing and learning all about play scripts based on our whole class text 'The Explorer'. This book is all about a plane that has crashed in the Amazon jungle carrying four children. We can't wait to find out what happens next! In Maths we have been learning about decimal numbers and getting ourselves ready for Year 6 with our calculation skills. Year 5 are also super excited to be starting in their new coaching groups in the Secondary Phase soon!

Y E A R 6Year 6 have been enjoying these last few weeks without the pressure of SATs! In Maths, we’ve been learning how mathematics and art depend on each other and what happens when maths and art meet. As part of this, we’ve made impossible shapes and Islamic art using a ruler and a pair of compasses. In English, we’ve been learning the poem The Dragon of Death. We’ve learnt how to perform the poem using expression, intonation, pace and a range of actions. In PE, we’ve been developing our athletic skills as we get ready for Sports Day. Let’s hope the weather has improved by then!

MORE ACTIVE GIRLS HAVE BETTER WELLBEING,NEW DATA FINDS

The findings, which include responses from more than 25,700 primary and secondary aged children across a two-year period, have been revealed by national children’s charity the Youth Sport Trust.

More active girls showed higher levels of the qualities associated with wellbeing which are self-belief, confidence, resilience, happiness and empathy. The largest difference was seen in girls’ resilience. Over three quarters (77%) of more active girls said they were resilient compared to under half (46%) of less active girls.

The research is taken from the Youth Sport Trust’s Girls Active programme, run in partnership with Women in Sport and This Girl Can, with funding from Sport England National Lottery.

It also found that more active girls were happier, with 75% stating so compared to 55% of less active girls.

Source: Youth Sport Trust

• Why do you think girls who are more physically active are happier?

• What sports have you taken part in so far in school?

• How much exercise do you think you currently do a week?

Questions

A new report has found that physically active girls are happier and more resilient than those who are not physically active.

NEW YOUTH SPORT TRUST GIRLS ACTIVE REPORT IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST EVER SURVEYS LOOKING SPECIFICALLY AT GIRLS' ACTIVITY.

Ali Oliver, Chief Executive of the Youth Sport Trust, said:"We owe every girl the opportunity to become a confident mover, find a sport or activity that she enjoys, and through that experience improved physical health and emotional wellbeing"

So what can you do?• If you don't take part in any physical activity outside of your PE lessons, why not join a sports Flexible Learning club? There is something different going on everyday, meaning there's something for everyone!• You can also join your local gym. Some gyms have classes just for girls, which you may find easier to start with.• Start excercising with friends! It's always easier when you have a friend to keep you motivated and you might feel more comfortable if you don't have to exercise on your own. Why not try running around your local park or find some exercise videos online that you can do in the comfort of your home.

When shall I start? Now! National School Sport Week is 24th - 28th June, so now is the perfect time to get involved!

Photo: Youth Sport TrustPhoto: Youth Sport Trust

Exercise isn't just for girls...We know! This news report is based specifically on the findings for girls, but we always encourage boys to get involved in sporting activities too.

Maybe you can try a new sport for the new academic year?
