About

10 Reasons to

Conference

Attend Future Transport Asia

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

The inaugural Future Transport Asia hosted by Sphere will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 25th to 27th June 2013. It gives me a great pleasure to welcome you to this important gathering of government officials, regulators, rail and airport operators, airlines and world class transport solution providers.

Home to the world’s 16th-largest economy, Indonesia has an urgent need to expand its infrastructure in order to support its booming economy. The Indonesian Government has pledged to multiply infrastructure spending to US$250 billion until 2025, in order to boost annual economic growth to 6.8% by 2014.

The theme of this year’s conference is “smart transport for a smarter future” and it will focus on discussions, strategies and innovative solutions that will move Asia’s transportation towards a sustainable future.

Hopefully from this conference, Indonesia will have the opportunity not only to share its experience; but also to learn from others in our quest to meet our goal of creating a sustainable infrastructure network to support our economy. This three-day conference will cover key areas of infrastructure and transportation, from market access strategies, passenger rail operations, airport operations to urban transport development and aviation outlook. This exchange of information, ideas and experiences will further enhance our understanding of the issues and challenges that we must face and the actions to be undertaken in order to achieve success.

I hope you make the most of your visit here to experience the many wonders of Indonesia and enjoy our warm hospitality.

I extend to you a very warm ‘Selamat Datang di Indonesia’.

Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in airport development to increase airport capacity

Big idea:PPPs are becoming increasingly popular as a means to bridge the resource gap to build, develop and expand airports with the latest technology and efficient management practices. PPP schemes assist in financing, building and operating airport projects quickly and efficiently. This will allow the development of infrastructure for remote and inaccessible areas and help provide airport capacity ahead of demand for the bigger airports.

Interactive sessions:

Hosted by PT. Angkasa Pura II, this site visit aims to provide our attendees with an insight into the airport operations at Indonesia’s no. 1 international airport – Soekarno Hatta International airport located in west Jakarta. The airport has three terminals hosting over 44.5 million travellers each year. International arrivals are in Terminal 2 along with domestic flights from Garuda and Merpati Airlines while other domestic flights arrive and depart from Terminal 1 and the newly opened Terminal 3.

Assessing the key drivers and

challenges within the PPP framework

from contract bidding to project implementation.

How your airport can best capitalise on

the PPP opportunity to modernise

infrastructure for future demand?

What are the various PPP structuring

approaches based on contractual agreement, private sector’s role and

ownership structure?

How the public and private sectors

can collaborate to deliver

infrastructure and services?

Taking note of the regulatory

framework, transparency and

quality of the bid process.
