Choice of Senior Schools
• Have you registered your child at a Senior School yet?
• You should have by now!

Senior Schools
• If you have NOT selected and registered at a Senior School yet, you need to make an appointment to speak to Mr Jones as soon as possible!

Senior School entry tests
• Varies hugely between schools• Very few use Common Entrance
Exams as a pass/fail entry exam• Many have their own entry tests -
Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning• Most will offer scholarships• Check deadline dates!

Common Entrance Exams
• Historical exam to enter all Senior Schools, set by the ISEB
• Majority of children take this at their Prep School in June
• Marked by the first choice Senior Schools
• Pass mark set by the schools

Common Entrance Exams
• English, Maths, Science are core• We expect children to do French,
History, Geography, Spanish and RE• Latin is optional at CE• Many schools now have their own
entry assessments that are different from CE

Common Entrance Exams
• Many schools have their own entrance exams, pre June and use CE results for setting
• Tests in English & Maths• Tests in Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning
(IQ tests)• Usually in January/February• Some schools pre-test in Year 7 and
offer places at this stage
Copthorne internal exams
• Year 8 children will sit practice CE/CAS papers in November
• All Year 8 children will sit formal CE/CAS papers at the end of the Spring Term, even if they have already passed entry tests. Results will be sent to Senior Schools.

school choir and/or orchestra

knowledge and understanding of ICT• Need to demonstrate some sort of
outside school application of ICT• Design your own website• E-commerce• Build your own computer

All-Rounder Scholarships
• Need at least 3 strong areas• One is usually good academic standards• Other 2 usually selected from: • Sport (strong player in school teams)• Art (portfolio of 10+ pieces)• Music (Grade 3 or 4 on one instrument)• Drama (school involvement & beyond)

• Parents apply for scholarships (not the school) – talk to us first!
• Children assessed at the Senior School
• Need supporting evidence from external sources (Sport/Art/Drama etc)
