Integration: Energy focuses on context and connections
Intelligence: Your contribution to tomorrow’s energy system
Efficiency: Cutting costs, conserving resources
Networking: Industry meets Energy
Service quality: Promoting your business – worldwide
“Energy” is repositioning itself: as the Leading Trade Fair for Integrated Energy Systems
and Mobility it will in future bring together all aspects of energy and mobility under
one roof. As from 2016 the show will focus on the generation, transmission, distribu-
tion and storage of energy, alternative mobility solutions, and the efficient use of
energy and resources. Not only the factory is becoming intelligent – energy systems
must be intelligent too. Our electricity comes increasingly from decentralized genera-
tors, which need to be fully integrated. Energy consumption, customer behaviour,
electricity prices, wind and weather data are all collected in order to manage the
storage and distribution of energy more effectively. Power networks and data
networks are merging. And Energy? The show highlights all the latest trends in the
energy market, puts them in context, and supplies answers to key questions about
“Industrie 4.0”. We’ve created a tagline that encapsulates the whole concept: Integrated
Energy. Echoes of “Integrated Industry”, the keynote theme of HANNOVER MESSE in
recent years? Absolutely right!
The creation of the European Energy Union with a forward looking climate
policy is one of the European Union’s priorities for the years to come. We
need to change the way we produce, transport and consume energy in all
areas of our society and economy. Our continent can address these challenges
better, faster and cheaper if we do it together. New technologies are the
key to success in this regard – not only in Europe, but also worldwide. This is
why I am more than pleased to take over the patronage of “Energy” at
HANNOVER MESSE 2016.
“Energy” presents the key aspects to a sustainable and integrated energy
system: power generation, transmission, distribution, and storage as well as
mobility solutions. The growing global demand for energy can only be met
sustainably through the expansion of renewable energy sources and improved
energy efficiency. This requires new and ever improving technologies. “Energy”
provides an overview of what is already technically possible and what the near
future will bring. It is an opportunity to present new ideas and solutions, to
exchange ideas with experts and to learn more about the latest technologies
and projects around the energy supply of the future.
I wish all participants and guests an inspiring and successful

“HANNOVER MESSE has always been the most
important trade show of the year for us, especially as
it attracts so many visitors from all over the world.
All our new product developments are planned around
HANNOVER MESSE.”
With 1,300 exhibitors, Energy is a core component of HANNOVER MESSE.
And one of the most dynamic. Whether wind power or smart grids – the
leading international trade fair for energy technologies responds each year
to a rapidly changing energy landscape with new display categories for
new specializations.
Generation, storage and mobility
In 2016 MobiliTec will be integrated into Energy. Its location close to the
group presentation Hydrogen + Fuel Cells + Batteries documents the impor-
tance of the green transport revolution for the transition to renewable
energy. Efficient technologies for decentralized generation, intelligent storage
technologies and the drive for more efficient use of energy and resources
complete the line-up in Hall 27, which is all about the transition to renew-
ables – and not generating more electricity than we actually use.
Transmission and distribution: network technology
The integrated concept for Energy puts the technology into context. So
manufacturers can profile themselves as systems suppliers – with their
complete portfolio. Energy highlights specific themes or topic areas: Hall 13,
for instance, focuses on network technology for power transmission
and distribution – from transformers and switchgear, cable technologies
and USVs to network management and smart grids.
Energy meets automation
The targets set by the German Federal government for reducing energy
consumption can only be met with energy management systems such as
those on display in Hall 12. Here energy and automation come together and
overlap. Intelligent solutions for the acquisition and measurement of energy
data, designed to manage distribution, are featured in Hall 12 alongside
coverage of “digital energy”, security and building automation.

2Intelligence: Your contribution to
tomorrow’s energy system.
Reconfiguring our power grids is one of the major engineering challenges of
our time. The theme parks at Energy provide a platform to present and dis-
cuss the ideas that will lead to the smart, decentralized system of the future.
Energy suppliers and consumers must adapt to a changing
world. The growth of renewables, and the resulting volatility
in feed-in, necessitate new, intelligent solutions for power
and heat generation, measurement, calculation and load
flow management. These technologies can be seen at the
theme parks “Smart Grids” (Hall 13) and “Decentralized
Energy Supply” (Hall 27).
This is a great opportunity to showcase your business as a
leading supplier of solutions for tomorrow’s energy systems.
Exhibit at one of our group presentations or theme parks
and benefit from a ready-made platform.
Smart Grids
A dominant theme of Energy is “Smart Grids”. The combi-
nation of energy grids and communication networks is very
promising. Smart grids enable feed-in from the growing
number of decentralized energy generators, balance out load
peaks and integrate electric cars and smart home devices.
Energy has devoted a special theme park to smart grids since
2012. It reflects the intelligent integration of systems for all
stages from energy generation to consumption. Supported
by industry associations VDE, ZVEI, bne and GTAI, the
“Smart Grids Forum” investigates topics such as distribution
networks, storage devices and smart markets. Ideas and
products from startups are also featured here.

Decentralized Energy Supply
Europe’s energy is increasingly coming from decen-
tralized generators and renewables. Hall 27 tracks
both these trends and shows how they interconnect:
combined heat and power stations, trigeneration
systems and virtual power stations will share a plat-
form with wind and solar technologies at the group
presentation “Decentralized Energy Supply”.
Leading manufacturers of wind turbines will be
displaying their solutions here alongside component
suppliers and service providers. Solar power is becom-
ing increasingly important, both on the energy market
and at HANNOVER MESSE – and Energy reflects this
in a special section of the theme park “Decentralized
Energy Supply”.

3Efficiency: Cutting costs,
conserving resources.
Using energy and resources more efficiently puts you ahead of your
competitors – in industry and on the road. The various themed marketplaces
at Energy give you the opportunity to tell your customers why.
The combination of group display and lecture forum is a sure recipe for a
successful presentation. Book a place in the theme park “MobiliTec” or the
“EnergyEfficiencyCenter”. You’ll find the forums attract the visitors –
so it is easier to get your message across to a global trade public. Nearly a
quarter of the visitors come to Energy with firm investment plans.
EnergyEfficiencyCenter
The hotspot for energy and resource
efficiency is the perfect place to
show your customers the potential for
energy savings – and the best ways
to achieve them. The combination of
group display and lecture forum will
ensure that your technologies and
examples of best practice really get
noticed. In 2015 the forum attracted
around 2,000 visitors.
Energy & Resource Efficiency
Efficiency is the key to making the
transition to renewables. In this
section of Hall 27, surrounded by the
latest technologies for generating and
storing energy, the focus is on saving
energy – the potential, and the means.
Main topics are energy consulting &
contracting, heat recovery and efficient
building technology, e.g. lighting and
ventilation.

4Networking:
Industry meets Energy.
Networking across frontiers and industry divides – Energy makes it all
possible. Its unique platform concept helps you to present your technologies
to a broad trade public and make valuable new contacts.
HANNOVER MESSE brings together the core sectors of industrial technology – from research and
development, industrial automation and IT, industrial supply, production engineering and services
to energy and environmental technologies. All the elements that drive the digitalized economy
are assembled together in one place. No other industrial show offers a comparable display environ-
ment geared to the practical applications of technology in industry.
Industrial users all at one place
America’s changing energy system
Natural gas, oil, coal – the USA is one of the biggest consumers
of fossil fuels. But wind power and solar energy are also being
developed on a large scale. The USA is ahead of Europe when it
comes to e-mobility. On the other hand, America’s energy infra-
structure is ageing fast. Power cuts are costing the country
billions. Modernizing energy networks is therefore a top priority
of the US government.
Intelligent technology, made in the USA
Energy efficiency and energy generation, state-of-the-art produc-
tion engineering and IT know-how – these are the main themes
of the presentation by Partner Country USA at HANNOVER MESSE
2016. The focus will also be on training and career development,
plus – of course! – transatlantic partnerships.

Life Needs Power
The transition to renewables – and Industrie 4.0: how do the two
things work together? What should the new electricity market look
like? What business models are fit for the future? Is there no alterna-
tive to high-voltage transmission lines? On all five days of the show
the central forum at Energy hosts debate about the major political
and technical challenges facing our energy system.
Leading experts from industry, the energy sector, the scientific
community and government will be discussing issues surrounding
the generation, storage, transmission and distribution of electric
power in Hall 13. Nor will they be looking only at Germany. Naturally
the technology itself also features on the forum agenda, as well as
political and economic aspects. Innovations aimed at making our
energy supply more efficient, more secure, greener and more
affordable will all be unveiled at “Life Needs Power”.
