Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church
25TH PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Honoring
REVEREND JOHN L. MACK, SR.
Anatomy of a Faithful Servant
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2009
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2009
A Faithful Servant
SO THEN, let us [apostles] be looked upon as ministering servants of Christ and stewards (trustees) of the mysteries (the secret purposes) of God. Moreover, it is [essentially] required of stewards that a man should be found faithful [proving himself worthy of trust]. 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 (Amplified)
Eyes sharp to
see the needs
of his people
Mouth skilled
in proclaiming
the word
Shoulders strong to
bear difficulty and
disappointment
Heart full of
compassion for
the hurting and
the lost
Feet ready
to go in any
direction
God leads.
Mind bright to
keep track of
all that’s going
on among his people
Ears tuned to
hear the cries
of the needy
Hands gentle
but firm to
guide a
wayward sheep
Knees hardened
by long hours of
prayer
Chairpersons- Frances Peete / Martha Petty
ABOUT OUR PASTOR
On the first Sunday of August 1984, Pastor John L. Mack accepted the call of the Lord to the
Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He attended the Anchor Bay Bible Institute, Oakland
Community College and the S.J. Williams School of Religion. He also makes himself available for continued
education through the annual National Baptist Congress of Christian Education Convention. He is married to
Sister Brenda Joyce Mack and has seven children: Renee, Kristal, Janetta, John, Jolandra, Jelise, and
JaKelle; and six grandsons, Jyaire, Jovan, Jordan, Jamari, Jaedyn and Jeryn; and two granddaughters,
Jekiah and Jekiera. Pastor Mack is a born-again, God-called, God-ordained, God-sent preacher of the
Gospel of Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit working through Pastor Mack, these years have been years
of great spiritual and physical growth for Greater New Hope.
Working alongside Pastor Mack in the ministry is his wife, Sister Brenda Mack, who is a woman
who exemplifies godly character and leadership. Her strong prayer life and faith in God reflect a life of
devotion to God, to the principles of His word, and to meeting the needs of people. She labors in the ministry
alongside her husband. She is a lecturer, teacher, and leader. God has blessed her and given her a special
ministry as a prayer warrior. Her own life exemplifies the victory she unwaveringly proclaims to all who will
commit themselves to the Word of God.
Spiritually, Greater New Hope has grown from a church with a limited teaching ministry to one with
many opportunities to learn the Word of God through: Vacation Bible School for children and Adults; morning
and evening prayer meeting and bible study; and Monday night intercessory prayer. His love and concern for
the spiritual growth of our youth inspired him to begin a Wednesday night video ministry; and periodic rap
sessions for the teenagers. Pastor Mack, who has a strong belief in family, offers encouragement to families
through counseling sessions; and offers advice and assistance in child rearing, academics and citizenship.
Pastor Mack is a man with a big heart, and a deep abiding compassion for all people. He is swift to
help and slow to criticize. He has dedicated his life to the Gospel Ministry, ministering to the needs of the
total man. In spite of all the many wonderful works he has accomplished, he is most content when he is
motivating people and ministering to their needs through the Word of God. Jesus once told his disciples, "...he
that is greatest among you, let him be your servant..." Based on this scripture alone, Pastor Mack's greatness
stands out when measured by his service.
There is nothing more prominent than a man with a vision. There is nothing any greater than a
visionary that allows himself to be led by God. Greater New Hope is a church with a God fearing leader.
Dedicated to excellence, Pastor Mack’s passion to serve goes way beyond traditional and usual protocol. He
demonstrates the character of Christ in his everyday living and service. He exemplifies the true meaning of
being a “faithful” servant of God.

Reflections
To our Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church family….
God has not let us down over these 25 years. He confirmed
our call and has blessed us from the very beginning. I do not
have the time or memory to recount all that God has done over
these twenty years. Let me summarize by saying that people
have come into the kingdom of God, many have grown in their
faith, worship attendance has grown, our facilities have been
expanded and Greater New Hope has become a church of
influence. By influence I mean that God has given us a place of
leadership for kingdom building. When I think of all of this, the
words of one of the great hymns we sing comes to mind, "To God be the glory great things He has done."
We give thanks to God for all the blessings He has bestowed
upon Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. We are
thankful for the strong foundation that was laid by our
forefathers and mothers in the gospel, who labored hard and
long. We have truly come this far by faith, and by faith we will
accomplish all that God has destined for us.
Our purpose in the ministry has been to educate, equip,
and empower people to fulfill their God-given destiny. When
we have destiny, then we have hope and a mark to aim toward.
As the African proverb states, "it takes a village to raise a
child," my desire is to see Greater New Hope be a church that
is actively involved in developing not only our own community,
but making an impact on the surrounding communities as
well. We do not want to be just another church on the block,
but we want to have a significant impact in our community. In helping individuals reach their destiny, we have to help them obtain the
fullness of life. We want people not only to be spiritually whole, but physically, emotionally, and financially whole as well.
As I look back over the years, I praise God for how he has blessed my ministry. I can say without a doubt that God has been faithful.
I am deeply humbled by the fact that I am here to celebrate 25 years as Pastor of this great church. Beyond all of the love and
expressions you have given or can ever give me, being your pastor is the greatest gift to me. Your support and trust has been an
encouragement over the years, especially during the challenging times, and means more to me than you will ever know. There is
absolutely no way I can every adequately thank you for your kindness to me. So, I am asking God to do it for me.
On behalf of myself, my wife, and my family, I’d like to say:
THANK YOU Greater New Hope for blessing us with the opportunity to serve you.
THANK YOU Greater New Hope for sharing your lives with us.
THANK YOU Greater New Hope most of all for your love, support and prayers
I love you all.
Your Pastor,
Reverend John L. Mack
Acts 20:35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus,
how he said, it is more blessed to give than to receive.
To Our Parents:
We want to let you know that we truly appreciate your love and support. Thank you for instilling the love of God in us and for
being such wonderful examples. We are honored to call you mom and dad! Congratulations. We Love You!!

CONGRATULATIONS FOR 25 YEARS OF SERVICE!
Pastor I want to wish you a Happy 25th Anniversary. A Silver Anniversary is a special milestone. The 25th Birthday is a special mark because the first quarter of life is over. The 25 th Wedding Anniversary is special because it says “I am here to stay.” The importance of the 25 th Pastor’s Anniversary lies within the number of lives touched and the community knows where to go for salvation, prayer and safety.
As we commemorate this occasion, we must look forward to the present blessings granted us by God the merciful; even to the future gifts God has in store for you Pastor and the Greater New Hope family.
Lastly, let us pray continually for God’s grace as we continue in the work of the Lord. Let us also remain in Christian love and fellowship with one another. Forgetting those things which are behind and pressing toward the mark which is set before us.
Respectfully,
Sis LuFrances Peete Anniversary Chairperson

Pastor, Because I don't feel equipped to sum total my thoughts
about you at this time, I will refer to a scripture I've used in the
past, simply because I'm still convinced that it is a truth:
Acts 13:22 (Amp) "you are a man after "GOD's" own heart, who
will do HIS will and carry out HIS program fully." Thanks for
allowing "GOD" to use you and making it easy for us, your sheep,
to follow you, our shepherd. So with that said, if we haven't always
heard a good sermon, I thank GOD that we have always seen a
good man! May "GOD" always smile upon you and cause HIS sun
to shine brightly upon you and yours!

A FAITHFUL SERVANT
So then, let us be looked upon as ministering servants of Christ and stewards of the ministering of Christ and stewards of the
mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that a man should be found faithful worthy of trust. (1 Corinthians 4:1-2)
A faithful person knows what God has put in their heart, and even though they may feel like quitting, they don’t give up. They don’t get out
of a relationship because it isn’t easy anymore. They don’t leave a church because there is some “new” thing across town, on a job because
it gets too challenging.
One of the most important lessons you can learn is to be faithful with something until God lets you know you are finished with it.
Sometimes God will call you out of one place and put you into another one- but God doesn’t change the plan very frequently. A faithful
person is committed to doing whatever God tells them to do- no matter what!
