Mark your calendar and make hotel reservations now! You will not want to miss the 2017 EMS Conference.
We listened to you and read the evaluations, and have tried to meet your requests. You won’t want to miss out on the pre-con-ference classes. They include Rope Rescue Basics for Emergen-cy Responders, CEVO (Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator), Destination Unknown, ITLS ACCESS, Hazmat EMS, Basic Water Rescue, One Stop Shopping, and last but not least, Steve Murphy’s - The Basics of Human Anatomy Cadaver Class. Classes will be held all day and into the night! Sign up now, as some of the classes have a limited amount of students.
Thursday night is MEGA CODE night. You will have a chance to practice your medical skills, get CEUs and eat PIZZA!
Throughout the conference, there will be several opportunities to gather in-formation as to what’s happening currently in EMS: patient report writing, how to write protocols that fit your needs, updated info on using O2 and spinal immobi-lization, just to name a few. Attend the Town Hall meeting or What’s New in EMS class and find out what’s going on.
As for the general sessions and breakouts: they are fantastic this year. How can they not be with Steve, Kirk and Rick?! We’ve included pediatrics, geriatrics, IV and lung sound refreshers, TRIAGE, Wilderness Medicine and many more.
We would like to thank Newmont Gold for being a major contributor to the conference again this year. We couldn’t do it without you!
Come join us for some learning, networking, eating and having a great time.

The Basics of Human AnatomySteve Murphy
You asked for it – you got it! Murph is back with this 4 hour workshop to review the basic anatomical terms associated with the medical profession while combining several hands-on assessment techniques. A variety of pig parts will be used to compare their structure and function to that of human patients. Come join us in this fast paced, extremely useful HANDS-ON work-shop. This class will offer a morning and afternoon session (Pre-registration is required – limit of 30)
Basic Water RescueKirk and John Mittelman
Get your swim suits, bring your towel and goggles and join Kirk and John for a hands-on pool session. Topics covered include safety tips, rescue, pack-aging and resuscitation methods that may or may not only save the patient’s life but keep the rescuer safe as well. Please plan to get wet and out of your comfort zone! (Pre-registration required – limit 20)
CEVO [Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator]Newmont Mine Rescue
CEVO was first introduced in the 90’s for fire, police and emergency med-ical personnel. Since then over 500,000 emergency responders have been trained with CEVO. What a great opportunity for individuals and services to take and learn how to properly drive emergency vehicles. (Pre-registration required – limit of 20)
Destination UnknownRobert Elliott & Jerry Yeager
In this 8 hour, pre-conference course we will explore and demonstrate some basic survival and first aid skills, equipment and techniques with each student. Come prepared to be outside.
Training Location Base Camp: Elko Convention Center and outlying areasStudents will be required to spend much of this outdoor training in a field
environment for the duration of training.
Pre-ConferenceSessions
Hazmat EMSElko Fire Department
Check it out!! This class will cover the scope of NFPA 473 and the compe-tencies required to fulfill this standard. Topics covered will include analysis of hazmat/WMD incidents to determine health hazards, development of a plan to deliver medical treatment to exposed patients, implementation of the prehos-pital plan and decontamination of any patient with potential harmful substance on them. Don’t miss out. (Pre-registration required – limit 30)
ITLS ACCESSJohn Mohler & Co
Emergency services personnel have all felt the frustration of losing patients because they could not gain access to them in a safe and expedient manner. The ability to treat them is hampered because of their entrapment in a vehicle. ITLS ACCESS addresses how to gain access to patients safely, quickly and efficiently, using only the tools that are carried or can easily be added to the emergency response vehicle. This allows us to “give back” some of the Golden Hour to the person who needs it most, the patient. (Pre-registration required – limit 20) (This class is being sponsored by Barrick Nevada and Small Mines Development.)
One Stop Shopping Part 1 – CPR RecertBarrick NV Goldstrike Mine Rescue
Do you need to recertify your EMS certification this year? This 4 hour class will get you a new CPR card and you will be good to go for 2 more years! (Pre-registration required – limit 20)
One Stop Shopping Part 2 – EMT/AEMT Skills Check OffBarrick NV Goldstrike Mine Rescue
