We light our second purple candle, this candle is the "Candle of Preparation," reminding us to get ready to receive God. In Advent we keep thinking about how we can show God we are getting ready for Jesus. When we reach out to those in need, in the way we speak to other people, and in the way we share our gifts, we show our readiness for Jesus. A practical way of assisting others is through acts such as food donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal. Tomorrow night we celebrate as a school community with our Christmas Carols Concert. The BBQ will commence at 5pm and the concert at 5:30pm. The concert involves all of our students from the Community of Learners through to our senior students. A big thanks to Mr. O’Shannessy, Ms. Helen, Mrs. Crimmings, and Mr. Yin for all their hard word in preparing the students and backdrops for the event. Families are encouraged to purchase a sausage in bread and drink before the Carols. Please bring along chairs for the Carols, some chairs will be provided on the night. Amongst the activity with Christmas preparation there is the serious business of issuing student academic reports to families. We anticipate that these will be sent out before the end of next week. Teachers at Holy Spirit School collect a range of data over the year to inform results for specific subjects. Transition reports are in a slightly different format. It is important that you as parents are aware of the data that you can access to monitor your child’s progress at school. Data is a way of monitoring what your child has achieved and supports teacher planning documents as to what needs to be focused on in the next teaching and learning cycle. Data varies at different year levels but includes - Letter identification records, Magic 100 and 200 Words, Mathematics Assessment interviews, South Australian Spelling, PAT-R Comprehension, PAT Mathematics, Moderated Writing tasks, PM and Lexile reading levels, classroom observations and NAPLAN (Years 3 and 5). Parents are always welcome to contact the school so that they are regularly informed of their child’s progress. This year we are conducting the Christmas Raffle online. Reflection Dear Families,

LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDOW OSHC, with Mrs. Sharon & Mrs. Faye

This term the after school care children have been working

collaboratively to build castles, moats and bridges in the

sandpit. The children are exploring the properties of sand

through the use of wet and dry sand. Children are using problem

solving skills and are working together as a team to turn their

vision into reality.

Inside the children have a variety of experiences that they can

engage with such as art and craft, construction items with lego

and zoob pieces and we have a small quiet area for children to

relax and read or look at books. The room has a variety of art

work on display as the children are very proud of what they

have done.

The children will often provide feedback on what they like to

engage with both indoors and outdoors. In the outdoor

environment is where we see children being physically active

through using the big kids playground, little kids playground,

the soccer field or the basketball court.

Each day children will ask the educators if they can help with

the serving of afternoon tea. This provides the children an

opportunity to provide leadership and guidance to their peers.

Our indoor environment has recently been upgraded with new

floors and fresh paint and it has certainly made the little room

feel bigger and brighter.

Our Vacation care program is out and we look forward to

sharing our journey during the vacation care period.

CANTEEN NEWS

There are only 5 more open canteen days. Due to the long

holiday break, stock will not be replenished and may be limited

as we near the end of the school year. It is advised that you

place online orders for recess and lunch in advance. If an item is

not appearing in the menu, it may be because the

item has sold out. The last day for canteen for

2019 is Thursday 12th December.
