A Message from the Principal

A prayer to our teachers Thank you for the gift of good teachers. Thank you for our teachers who are willing to take on the responsibility of

shaping the next generation of thinkers and achievers. As the school year draws to a close, grant them the strength and courage to face what lies ahead through this busy term.

Spark their imagination with ways to reach every learner in their class. When the days are long and the challenges seem too many, grant them peace. When things go smoothly, let them see your guiding hand and give you thanks.

When they’re spending their money to make my child’s learning environment more successful and enjoyable, grant them treasures in Heaven.

Please, Lord, give them the grace they need to see you in every aspect and time of your schooling. Help them respond to the individual needs of each child to the best of their ability.

Protect them from harm, but make them brave and knowledgeable in times of crisis. May they find strength for the journey in each smile, hug, high five, and newly learned skill.

I know that their job is an incredibly demanding one. Help me to support them the best that I can so that my child will know how much I value their education and hard work of others.

Please bless the vocations of my child’s teachers, coaches, administrators, and school staff. Help them truly know what a difference they make in the lives of each child they encounter.

And at the end of each day, may they find rest and replenishment to rise and do it all again tomorrow. Amen

Dear Families, Darwin City Council has provided to each of our Catholic schools a tree to plant in our school grounds. This tree has been gifted to the community of Holy Spirit to commemorate 200 Years of Catholic Education in Australia and Faith in the Future. We pray that this tree be a symbol of our shared story and ‘Care for our Common Home’ as we are encouraged by Pope Francis in Laudato Si’. With the wet season approaching we will be sure to plant this tree in the best location possible ensure it reaches its full potential.

This Friday we celebrate ‘World Teachers’ Day’. Please join us at assembly this Friday morning in our Multipurpose Room where we will have a special presentation for our teachers. Bel Sheridan (Chairperson of our School Board) and Maria Rigas (P&F Representative) will be coming along to presentation. In addition, our local member, MLA Nicole Manison will be providing lovely treats for our teachers. The AITSL website has a number of suggestions in how you can thank our teachers. Please take the time to thank our teachers in the work they do each day for the students of Holy Spirit.

During this time we shall acknowledge those of our teachers being recognised as Advanced Skills Teacher, Level 1 (AST 1). Recipients of AST1 are recognised for excellence in teaching practice and contribution to the educational tone of the workplace. We congratulate Kirsty Boath, Mimi Woolley and Tracey Coco.

Yesterday, students from Murrupurtiyanuwu Catholic Primary School (MCPS) visited our school to join in activities with our Year 5/6 students. This was a great opportunity for our students to showcase our school. Our visitors participated in sporting activities, robotics and art. A great afternoon for everyone. A reminder this Friday is Mission Liturgy and Markets. Liturgy begins at 11:00am in our Multipurpose Room followed by markets in our courtyard. Details have been provided through newsletter, Class Dojo and Operoo. The theme this year is: ‘We cannot but speak about what we have seen and heard’ (Acts 4:20). The celebration of World Mission Month is an occasion for reaffirming prayer and reflection in the mission of Jesus in his Church. We continue to take enrolments for 2022 across all year levels, including Community of Learners (3-5 years). Over the past few weeks Mrs Sharon and I have been meeting with many new families coming to our school. If you know of anyone who is looking at enrolling their child for next year please be sure to let them know we are available for interview or a tour of our school. All information about our school can be found on our school website. If your circumstances have changed and you will not be returning to Holy Spirit in 2022, please notify us by completing the form on Operoo or in writing (email accepted). This assists us in preparation of 2022 when confirming staffing and number of classes. In Term Three families were invited to inform us of intentions for next year. This allows us to move through the next phase of class groupings and teacher allocations. Our teachers know their students well, particularly in the learning context so careful decisions are made to ensure that classes are created with a good balance of learning needs. Once decisions are made about placement we will be reluctant to make changes as this can upset the carefully arranged dynamics and affect the learning environment for all children. An invitation was extended to parents to discuss their child’s needs for 2022 with their teacher. A request for a specific teacher cannot be accommodated as we encourage children to develop strategies for working with a range of teachers who each bring individual strengths to the learning environment. We congratulate Miss Veronica Niland who has accepted a full time teaching position at Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School beginning 2022 school year. Miss Niland has been a valued teacher at our school since 2019 and we thank her for her many contributions to the school. While the decision for her was difficult to make, the move will shorten her commute to and from school each day. Miss Niland remains with us until the end of the school year. A rigorous recruitment process has begun for a Transition teacher for 2022. Last week, staff from across all schools in the Northern Territory received a circular from the Catholic Education Office NT, regarding mandatory Covid-19 vaccinations. For all of our staff in order to continue working in the same role, they must have their first dose of the C – 19 vaccine by Friday 12th November and be fully vaccinated by 24th December this year. This directive is from the Chief Health Officer and NT Government. For our families (parents/carers) of our schools we await instructions from NT Government about requirements around vaccinations. At this time of year the weather is warm and it is important we take care of ourselves and each other. We remind ourselves the importance of keeping hydrated, playing in the shade and having a good night’s sleep. During lunch we will provide some indoor activities for our students as required. As the term progresses we will look at making our Multipurpose available during lunch. Take care everyone. Enjoy the remainder of our week. We hope to see you Friday at our Mission Day Liturgy and Markets. Blessings, Mrs Paula Sellars Principal

MISSION MARKET DAY

Students are eagerly preparing for our Holy Spirit Mission Market Day, to be held on Friday 29th October from 11:30am – 12.30pm. Each class is responsible for running their chosen stall and students can pay a small fee to participate in each of the activities. For a gold coin donation, they may also dress in casual clothes for the day.

This is a fundraiser as part of World Mission Month and an excellent way for students to reach out to others in need. All money raised will go directly to Catholic Mission, who work with children in over 160 countries worldwide. This year all money raised will support children in Thailand giving them the gift of early years education. To find out more visit: https://www.catholicmission.org.au/see-our-work-in-action/kusa

Below is a list of the exciting activities that we have in store! We are

asking for your help by donating any items that your child’s class may

require on the day:
