Psalm 124

1 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side —let Israel now

say—2 if it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when our

enemies attacked us, 3 then they would have swallowed us up alive,

when their anger was kindled against us; 4 then the flood would have

swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; 5 then over us

would have gone the raging waters. 6 Blessed be the Lord, who has

not given us as prey to their teeth. 7 We have escaped like a bird from

the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped.

8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

James 3:13-18 & 4:7-8

13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good

life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom. 14 But

if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be

boastful and false to the truth. 15 Such wisdom does not come down

from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, devilish. 16 For where there is

envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness

of every kind.17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then

peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits,

without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy. 18 And a harvest of

righteousness is sown in peace for those who make peace.

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will

flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-

minded.
