28° Domingo en Tiempo Ordinario 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time October 14th, 2018
My dear parish family,
Peace be with you! I hope that this message finds you and yours doing well. Things are op-
erating smoothly, praised be God. Our bathroom and confessional projects are complete!
Woohoo!
In today’s Gospel, the rich young man approaches Jesus and asks what he needs to do to inherit eternal life. Je-
sus begins to list off the commandments and the young man says he has faithfully followed all of them. Jesus,
looking at him, loved him and said to him, “You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the
poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” The Gospel tells us that the young man
“walked away sad because he had many possessions.”
Why did the young man walk away from Jesus? Often times, we only give God the bare minimum and that’s
what happened with the young man. Sure he followed the commands, but he was not willing to give up every-
thing to follow Christ. Do we fall into this trap as well? Do we have unhealthy attachments that we are not will-
ing to part with?
Friends, when dealing with matters of the heart, we need to turn everything over to God. We cannot say that we
are faithful disciples if we live a double life or keep things from the Lord. In this world we all are attached to
something. If that attachment becomes too much, it will become our heart and it will get in the way of giving
ourselves completely to God. Remember, wherever our heart is, that is where we put our treasure. May our
treasure always be Christ, who never disappoints: “For human beings it is impossible, but not for God. All things
are possible for God.”
For the next two weeks, I will be away on pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Egypt! I will be the Spiritual Director
for 45 people, as we walk in the footsteps of our Blessed Lord, Mother Mary, and many of the prophets of old.
Some might think this is a vacation…but let me assure you that it is anything but. As a spiritual director, I will
have the pastoral responsibility and care for 45 souls. A pilgrimage is a spiritual sacrifice, where people seek to
encounter the Lord in a deep and profound way. My job as it were is to ensure that they have the spiritual sup-
port they need to make this journey by offering Holy Mass, confessions, and spiritual counseling. Please keep us
in your prayers and know that you will be in mine. I leave you in good hands with Archbishop Emeritus, Michael
J. Sheehan and Fr. Lalo Pinon. See you all very soon, but until then we remain united in the Eucharist!
In His Joy,
Fr. Leon J. Vigil †

Miracle of the Month Eucharistic Miracle of Legnica, Poland
(An Account from The Catholic Travel Guide)
On the 25th of December, 2013, in the Saint
Jack Church in Legnica, a Host fell on the
floor during the distribution of Communion.
It was put in a container with water to dis-
solve it, but after some time, rather than
dissolving, it turned red.
A commission was set up to observe the
phenomenon. In February 2014, a tiny red
fragment of the Host was separated and put
on a corporal. The Commission ordered that
samples be taken in order to conduct thor-
ough tests by the Department of Forensic
Medicine in Szczecin.
The research was conducted and it was de-
termined that the fragments of tissue that
were found contained the fragmented parts
of the cross striated muscle, which is most
similar to the heart muscle with alterations
that often appear during the agony. This
would be similar to the findings of the Eucharistic Miracle in Lanciano, Italy and
of other Eucharistic Miracles reported around the world. The genetic research
indicates the human origin of the tissue.
The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in the Vatican advised that the Mirac-
ulous host be exposed for the faithful to view. The Bishop of Legnica announced the
results to all parishes on April 17, 2016. The host, in a special monstrance, is exposed
in the St. Jack (better translated as Saint Hyacinth) Parish in Legnica.
