It has been a pleasure this week to host the new Principal Mr Justin Beckett at the College.
He has thoroughly enjoyed his time here, visiting Wodonga, attending the assembly run by
the Kindergarten students, meeting staff and students, and finding his way around Albury.
I think he is fast coming to the conclusion that Trinity is a great place to be! And of course I
concur.
I know the weather has been against us, but could I ask you to support us in trying to get
the students to wear their uniform correctly. The summer uniform is not meant to have
winter components but the unseasonable chill has made this impossible. As the weather
warms up please ensure that your child wears their uniform as it is meant to be worn – it
is a uniform, not a fashion statement. Thanks for your support in this matter.

Year 11: HSC Patterns of Study
Students in Year 11 are motivated and eager to begin their HSC experience. Whilst Year
11 students must engage in 12 units of study (6 subjects), students can study a minimum
of 10 units (generally 5 subjects) for the HSC. Interested students have taken blue change
of subject forms to complete. Additional forms are available for students from the front
office. As part of the process for dropping subjects, students must consult with a number
of key people and gain their signatures on the form; parents, teachers, the Head of Senior
School and the Careers Advisor must be consulted prior to the change being formalised.
Year 11: HSC Assessment Information
Assessment schedules have been distributed to students, together with the important
policy document ‘Year 12 Assessment Information for Students, 2017.’ This document
outlines the policies and procedures regarding the completion and submission of
assessment tasks for HSC courses. It is important that students are fully cognisant of this

material and adhere to the processes outlined. Students have also received an advice that
outlines the due dates of all assessment tasks for all courses. This will help them to plan
their time so as to maximise their ability to perform effectively in all tasks. I wish them all
of the best as they embark upon this latest stage of their educational journey.
Year 11 HSC Information Evening for Students and Parents: Tuesday 15 November 2016
Mr Thomas and I will be hosting an information session for all Year 11 students and their
parents from 7pm on Tuesday 15 November. We will be focusing on the ways that
students’ assessment marks and exam performances combine to produce HSC marks and
on the sorts of processes that students and parents can implement at home in order to
maximise HSC success. We look forward to seeing as many students and parents as
possible.
Semester 2 Exams
For students in Years 7 - 8, assessment tasks will take place in class; there will be no formal
exam period.
Students in Years 9 – 10 will undertake Semester 2 exams during Week 5 of this term.
These exams will span from Tuesday 8 to Friday 11 November. Examination timetables
have been distributed to all students via email. These are also available on the College
website, via the following pathway – Community/ Forms and Notes/ By Date.
If you have any queries regarding the issues outlined above, please do not hesitate to
contact me.

Relay for Life
The Relay for Life has been and gone for another year with Trinity once again being heavily
involved in fundraising for the Cancer Council. It has become a tradition that our Year 11
students enter a team and attempt to beat the total raised by the previous year.
Our planning for the relay started back in Term 2 with a number of sub-committees being
formed from Year 11 students to organise a range of activities. Some of the activities
included a breakfast café, Junior School disco, cake stalls, trivia night, bacon and egg
breakfasts to coincide with the ride to school day and raffle ticket selling. Aside from the
group activities, each student who joined the team committed to raising fifty dollars
individually towards the team’s total.

Parents of Year 11 students and the Trinity community as a whole can feel proud of the
commitment our students have shown to support this community event. I had the
pleasure last weekend to spend the twenty-four hours (along with other staff members)
with Year 11 students in cold and windy conditions. The students were fantastic and I was
particularly proud on Sunday morning when we were announced as the winners of the
Schools Challenge (schools with more than 500 students). The students raised an amazing
$15,600 to beat the total of our 2015 relay team. We also finished second for fundraising
of all teams who were at this year’s relay. In the eight years Trinity has now been involved
in the relay we have raised in excess of $75,000. This is a fantastic effort from our Year 11
students.
I’m sure Year 10 are looking forward and thinking about planning their relay in 2017!

Careful in the use of word…. Words can evoke many different emotions. They have within
them the power to inspire, to tear down and to express true love. Over the last few weeks
the importance of the use of word has been evident in the broader community. In written
form the perception of the reader is difficult to ascertain. The written word can be taken
out of context as intonation and facial cues are missing and the reader can create a
scenario that was not expected by the writer. With the rise and rise of social media, it is
important to reflect on the written word: that quick e-mail, the snap-chat, the throw-away
line on face-book and the seemingly endless means of sending a message. As part of
learning and growing students (and adults) are continually confronted by this and the
growing need to know now, to tell now and send now. This form of pressure can be used
as a positive. I always suggest that if things are sent in jest then it may be best to do this
face to face. Things said in jest are more easily interpreted and usually much funnier. It is
incumbent on our community to continually raise awareness of this and to educate
ourselves as parents and our children to the importance of being careful in the use of
word. To use this powerful tool as a positive.
K-2 Swimming
All students from K-2 have now taken part in the swimming program. There has been
some wonderful feedback from students and staff about the involvement and general
improvement. This is an essential skill in our community given the length of summer. We
are all looking forward to the Carnival on Monday 28 November.
Super 8’s Milo Cricket
A girls team and a boys team travelled to Canberra to take part in the Southern NSW/ACT
Cricket challenge. The girls team had a wonderful day and improved markedly during the

day managing some wins against other schools. Mrs Phegan helped the girls and the
laughter and encouragement was a delight. The boys team excelled on the Day winning
the Year 5/6 Competition and will now head to the MCG to play in the Australian
Championships. A wonderful effort under the tutelage of Mr Fairall.

What it means to be part of Wodonga Campus
During last week’s Chapel Service, Rev’d Bryn shared with students the message of the
Gospel. He spoke of the importance of prayer in our lives, emphasising how prayer gives
us more of a personal relationship with Jesus. He also reflected on why he enjoys being a
part of the Wodonga Campus community. Rev’d Bryn reflected on how the students are
actively understanding and supportive of each. He expressed how he enjoys the creativity
the students bring to their school work and to their presentations during Chapel. Perhaps
the most poignant point he made was that the students encourage each other to be
themselves and to work on being great people.
Hats
I would urge parents to remind students of the need to have a hat EVERY DAY during Term
4. Previously we had a few spare hats to loan to children who had forgotten, but there are
important health reasons that this is not a good practice, particularly at times when we
have outbreaks of head lice. Students need to be wearing their Trinity hat, or their Sports
hat on sport days, otherwise they will need to sit in the shade during lunch and recess
times.
Operation Christmas Child
Students have been busy working on packing their Christmas boxes for Operation
Christmas Child. The SRC raised $251.70 from their Pyjama Day last term, the proceeds of

which will go towards the postage of their boxes
to children who are less fortunate than
themselves. The 28 boxes are packed with all
sorts of goodies, just the thing to make a child’s
Christmas morning a little more special. Well
done to everyone, and thank you to
Rev’d Bryn for his initiative and for the
assistance of Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Billington
in getting it all together! Well done to all the SRC
on what was an outstanding charity event.
Lolly/Chocolate Jar Winner
The winners of the ‘Guess the Number of Lollies/Chocolates in the Jar’ were Hafiz Andrews
from Yr 6 (chocolates) and Cassie Phillips from Year 4 (jelly beans). Well done to those
students and to everyone who supported it. Money raised will go to Rev Bryn to help
defray costs of posting the Christmas Boxes.
District Athletics
Congratulations to all the students who represented Trinity’s Wodonga Campus at the
District Athletics and those who competed at the next level on 7 October. Thanks to
parents who helped with transport and to Andrew Holland who gave up his time during
the holidays to assist. Congratulations to Darrah Andrews (Year 4W) and Georgia Stefaniak
(Year 5W) for being selected for the State finals in Melbourne on 24 October.
Unfortunately, Darrah could not attend, but Georgia competed in the 11 Yr Girls high
jump. Against some very tall and well-trained jumpers, Georgia did amazingly well on the
big stage. What an achievement from a multi-talented young lady. See photos below -

Auction for Shade Night
I write to let you know that the Auction for Shade has been postponed until early next
year – ticket sales were a little low. To go forward, the organising committee and the
school are still very positive about the auction evening and fundraising, and very much
look forward to it being a significant part of the 2017 calendar. Thank you to everyone for
their efforts and we hope to tap into that energy and enthusiasm again for next year’s
event.
Technology
Thanks to Mr Trebilcock for the Year 6 industrial
technology, they made spinning tops. The Year 6s
were very much involved in the process of
producing an authentic product while using the
self-reflection and feedback strategies to enhance
their thinking and planning. Well done Year 6. The
champion top was made by Skye McPhee.
Year 3 Camp
Year 3 camp was held at Great Aussie
Resort and CSU recently. Thanks to Mr
Kane McGregor and Mrs Tanya Carroll
who assisted with student supervision on
the day/s, and to Miss Kerrie Wheeler for
her preparatory organisation. Well done
to the students who pushed themselves
to achieve just that little bit more.

Touch Footy
The Trinity Hotsteppers fired up their Touch Football campaign on Tuesday night with a very
encouraging first-up win! In what could only be described as Arctic winds, the team stuck it
out in very trying conditions! It was with a lot of apprehension that many of the team
undertook a crash course of the game 30 minutes prior to taking the field.
The nerves were settled quickly and after some strong attacking team drives, Harry Haszard
sprinted for the corner and scored our first try. Milly Osmotherly and Emma Piltz worked
extremely well together around the ruck and were well supported by Sophie King, Georgia
Donelan and Aimee Offner. Alexander Achillea and Ryley Miller showed great passing
technique in their first outing for the Hotsteppers and showed they will be great attributes
to the team. Nick Ferguson and Lachlan Graetz have speed to burn and used it effectively
to both score tries throughout the game.
The Trinity Hotsteppers won the game 6-1, which was a super result first-up. All players
showed a great commitment to listen and learn, which will hold them in good stead as we
face stronger competition in the following weeks.

BISSA Waterpolo Gala Day
The College entered two relatively young teams in last week’s BISSA waterpolo gala day.
Trinity’s girls’ team was overflowing with students from Year 7 to Year 10. With our boys
taking the water with an unfortunately small number on the bench, the three games were
going to test their fitness.
With record entries received, it highlighted the ongoing popularity of waterpolo in the
Riverina, with schools travelling as far as Wagga to challenge for the title. Xavier High School
had a good record at the championships and were the team to beat in both the girls and
boys.
With the emphasis on improving throughout the day, the sides took the water full of
confidence, hoping to take away something for their club season. Phoebe ‘The Rock’
Ziebarth willingly took on the hardest challenge of the day, to protect the cage for our girls.
From the Director of Sport & Co-curricular
11 Newsletter 17, Week 3, Term 4 29 October 2016
Whilst one of our youngest players, Phoebe didn’t let anything through, and gained the
admiration from her coach, opponents and team mates, which lifted them to many close
games. The experience and leadership of Faye Cameron and Stella Mamouney also assisted
throughout the day.
The Trinity Boys improved over their three games, however, found that with only two
reserves it was difficult to keep up with the more experienced and fitter teams. Our team
made up of predominantly Year 9 students fought hard, swimming and defending older
students with confidence.
All games were played in the spirit Trinity is renowned for, with the students being a
pleasure to coach.
