Dear family,

Accessed at: https://ninglista.gq/504141-ferris-bueller-cameron-frye-quotes.pl

“Well it was many years ago now, But I really can't be sure

That's when it all began, then I heard that knock upon my door …” – PHISH

That’s how it all happens, doesn’t it? You’re sitting around, minding your own business, and there’s a knock at the door, the phone rings, or someone says, “Hey”, trying to get your attention. You try to ignore it, but the knocking, the ringing, calling out, etc. is persistent, incessantly continuing. You finally answer, and your life is changed, maybe forever changed. Persistence pays off. Whether you are on the active end or the receiving end, if you are persistent enough, things happen. That’s how it all starts. You say “Yes” to one thing, and then years later, you look back … and see just how far you’ve come. Wow. Imagine if Cameron Frye hadn’t answered Ferris’ call that day? Or if A-A-Ron, and Hur hadn’t held Moses’s arms up during Joshua’s battle? Or if the widow in the Gospel gave up? Or if Key and Peele’s “Substitute Teacher” never aired? Life would certainly be a lot different. All of those results, and infinitely more, are due to persistence.

Persistence pays off. This is true from the smallest, most seemingly mundane decisions, to the big, life changing ones, particularly with regard to our vocations. It’s true for me on the road to priesthood: God was persistent in His call to me until I finally answered when I was ready. How many of you married folks were persistent in your pursuit of your beloved?

Even now, if someone, say my Mom or Dad, calls me two times in a row or more, I know I need to call them back, and pronto. It must be important. How do I know that? Because of their persistence! What about my prayer? Am I persistent? Going to God like the widow in the Gospel time after time after time after time?

Lord, your hand is full of justice!

St. Paul reminds us in the second reading this weekend to “be persistent, whether it is convenient or inconvenient.” In other words, BOTHER GOD. In fact, BOTHER OTHERS with your persistence. After all, we’re not mind readers. You are NEVER a BOTHER to God or to me. Speaking of that, hope to see all of you at ASK THE PADRE this Tuesday at 7 pm in Church! ALL are welcome! Upcoming Events:

THIS Saturday, October 19 - Trunk or Treat - begins after 5 pm Mass - RESERVATION REQUIRED.

THIS TUESDAY, October 22 - ASK THE PADRE WITH FR. CHRIS - 7 pm in Church

Friday, November 1 - SOLEMNITY OF ALL SAINTS - HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION - Masses at 6:30 & 8:00 am and 12:15 and 7:00 pm

Saturday, November 2 - All Souls Day - Mass of Remembrance at 9 am – NO 8 am Mass this day as we remember the deceased from our parish over the past year as well as all the faithful departed.

Have a good week!

29th Sunday in Ordinary Time October 20, 2019

For the 2019-2020 year, CPOP School has opened a second STEM Lab as well as including a dedicated STEM teacher. All students, pre-school through 8th grade, meet once a week to work on STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) projects that correlate with their core sub-ject areas. This week, our second grade students are working on creating a maze by coding a path for the Ozobot robots to follow. After reading the book, If You Take a Mouse to School, the students created a map with obstacles that their Ozobot must travel to reach the finish line. Our STEM teacher, Mrs. Page, challenges the students to use their problem-solving skills as they trace their paths around their obstacles and make stops at locations from the book along the way. The concentration, energy and excitement in the classroom was amazing. I am eager to see their finished mazes and watch their coding suc-cess! Great things are happening at CPOP! World Mission Sunday

Be Baptized and Sent—on Mission in the World! Today is World Mission Sunday, in this Extraordi-nary Missionary Month, we are called to a per-sonal encounter with Jesus Christ alive in the Church, and to offer, through this Eucharistic cel-ebration, our prayers and our generous financial support, through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, to continue the mission of Jesus. To-day we are “sent” out to witness the Mission in the world through our prayers and personal sacri-fices for our brothers and sisters around the world. As little as…

$25 helps support a catechist for a month in re-mote Latin America

$75 provides for the work of religious Sisters car-ing for orphaned children in Africa

$100 assists poor children in boarding schools in Asia

As always, your prayers are your most treasured gift to the Missions. Your prayers and financial help, offered today, WORLD MISSION SUNDAY, support mission priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, and lay catechists who are Christ’s wit-nesses to a world so in need of His healing, love, and peace.

The Book Club will be meeting on Monday, Octo-ber 28th, at 7:00 pm, in the Rectory basement to discuss “Fatima for Today” by Fr. Andrew Apos-toli—a complete, well-ordered presentation of the Fatima miracles and messages. In November, we will read “Dark Night of the Soul” by St. John of the Cross.

ENJOY!

WHEN THE SAINTS In April, 2018, CPOP hosted a documentary screen-ing and question & answer session with David Peter-ka, a 2006 Parkway West graduate and founder of the non-profit organization, "WHEN THE SAINTS" (whose heart is to offer healing and new life through Jesus, that both oppressor and oppressed will be free.) It was an engaging evening. If you missed it, or if you would like to learn more, here is another op-portunity. "WHEN THE SAINTS" invites you to their 9th Annual Banquet with a focus on RESILIENT FREEDOM! Sat, November 9, 2019, 6:45 PM – 9:00 PM CST at Edward Jones, 130 Edward Jones Blvd, Maryland Heights, MO 63043. The evening will include a 3 course meal prepared by chef Scott Oglesby. The MC and guest speaker, is Gret Glyer, the founder of DonorSee and author of If The Poor Were Next Door. You will also hear first hand stories from the girls about their return home and the transformation that occurs in their communities, families and personally in their lives! Theresa Zamora is hosting a table of 8. If you would be interested joining her, please call 314-540-7750 or 314-835-9939. For more info about this event email: [email protected]. If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation to the fundraiser please do so at https://whenthesaints.z2systems.com/np/clients/whenthesaints/donation.jsp

All Saints and All Souls Day Invitation The Art and Environment Committee will be creating a “Grotto of Saints” and a “Memorial of Beloved Remembrance” to commemorate All Saints and All Souls Days in the month of November. Please con-tribute statues or pictures of saints and departed family and friends for the Memorials. Please label loaned items with your name. Items can be dropped off in a labeled box in the Meditation Room, and the displays will be set up by Thursday, October 31st, remaining on display until Advent. Picture and stat-ues can be added to the displays throughout Novem-ber. Contact Barb Johns at 314-229-6271 for more information. Thank you!!

Attention Men:

Save the Date! All men are invited to join us for Advent on Tap (previously Advent by Tail Light) on Saturday, December 14, at 6 pm in the cafeteria. This event will feature fellowship, the annual chili potluck, a reflection from one of our own men, and an icy sports rivalry on the big screen. Bring your favorite beverage and a few buddies as we prepare for Christmas.

This past Wednesday was the pilot episode of a show called “Deeper.” It’s a new program we’re try-ing out on Covenant Network Catholic Radio. The goal is simple, we hope to provide insights to help everyday Catholics like you and me grow in holiness.

The theme for this week was from the Gospel of Luke (Lk 5:4) where Jesus says to Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.”

It sounds simple, but look at the background. Simon & Co. had “worked hard all night and [had] caught nothing.” It’s been a while since I worked an all-nighter. I can only imagine how tired and de-jected they were. Sure they played along when Jesus first asked them to take Him out in one of the boats after they had already pulled ashore and started cleaning up. Then Jesus asks them to head back out. I don’t know about you, but I probably would have just wanted to head home and sleep.

Stewardship Reflection “…proclaim the word, be persistent whether it is

convenient or inconvenient...” (2 Timothy 4:2)

It is not always convenient to be a good

steward, especially when all the temptations of

our busy and materialistic world get in the way.

Now add our own pride and ego into the

equation and living a stewardship lifestyle may

be downright uncomfortable! Remember, God

didn’t call us to be comfortable. He called us to

be faithful.
