What is Google Authenticator

• Google Authenticator is a software-based authenticator by Google which implements two-step verification services using Time-based One-time Password Algorithm for authenticating users.

• It is also referred to as Two-Factor Authentication – 2FA.

• When logging into any website or platform supporting Google Authenticator, the Authenticator generates a six- to eight-digit Time-based One-time Password (TOTP) which users must enter in addition to their usual Login Details.

Why use the Google Authenticator

• Google Authenticator (2FA) adds a Second Layer of Security over and above your Username and Password.

• Most, if not all Websites (Social Media plaforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Internet Banking, Crypto Exchange Platforms and Wallets, etc) are on the internet and accessible to everybody, Hackers INLCUDED.

• Your Google Account is the first step to gain access to all the above applications and platforms.

• If your Google Account is compromised, then all your passwords may be exposed and at risk.

• Download and Install the “Google Authenticator” Mobile App from the Play Store / App Store on your Mobile Phone.

Step 2: Enable 2FA on your Google Account

• While scanning the QR Codes, you can back-up the Time-based OTP Codes on a second Mobile Phone, like your previous Mobile Phone, or a trusted family member’s Mobile Phone to keep the Time-based OTP Codes as a back-up on the second Mobile Phone.

• Watch the video now again with the second Mobile Phone at hand to scan all QR Codes as a back-up on the second Mobile Phone.

• You can also safe the QR Codes as images making screen prints of it before entering the six-digit Time-based OTP Codes. Store these screen prints in a secured location such an external memory stick, never on your Mobile Phone, Laptop, Tablet or Computer.

• Login to your MTI Back Office.

• Open the Google Authenticator App on your Mobile Phone.

• Click on “Profile” followed by “2FA”.

Step 3.4: Add a New Account to the App on your Mobile Phone

• On an iPhone, click on “+” in the Top. • On an Android Phone, click on “+” in the Bottom

of the screen of the Mobile Phone.

Step 3.4: Add a New Account to the App on your Mobile Phone

• Once clicked on “+”, the two options will open for you to choose either to scan a “QR Code”, or to enter the “Provided Key”.

Step 3.4: Add a New Account to the App on your Mobile Phone

• Choose “Scan”, and move and hold the square on the Mobile Phone’s screen to scan a QR Code on your Computer/Laptop Screen.

Step 3.5: Add a New Account to the App on your 2nd Mobile Phone

• Scan the QR Code on the second Mobile Phone as a back-up as well, or write done the Unique Key below the QR Code and keep it safe. Should you loose your Mobile Phone, you can enter this Unique Key on the new Mobile Phone to generate the Time-based OTP when you need to login to your Back-Office again.

Step 3.5: Add a New Account to the App on your 2nd Mobile Phone

• The Scanned QR Code will generate a unique Time-based OTP Code on your Mobile Phone.

• After scanning the QR Code on the Back-up Mobile Phone, the Time-based OTP on both Mobile Phones will be in sync and exactly the same.

Step 3.6: Enable 2FA on MTI Back Office

• Enter the Unique Time-based OTP Code in the “Enter 2FA Code to Enable” space on the screen and click on “Enable 2FA”.

After you have scanned the QR Code on both Mobile Phones, or written down the Unique Key below the QR Code, you may enter the Time-based OTP generated on your Mobile Phone
