Traditionally, a 10th anniversary is commemorated with tin, noted for its strength and flexibility, and in more recent times with the diamond, for its durability and beauty. All of these traits are reflected in this organization, the people - like you - and our community. Hands On Thomas County was founded in 2003 by Mrs. Alston P. Watt, with the simple goal of helping those who wished to make a difference, find a way to do just that. Our mission is still simple today: Connect individuals, families, groups and businesses as volunteers to non- profit agencies, needs and service opportunities in the community. We do so through signature annual events that unite community members in a common goal, and daily volunteer placements based on local non-profit needs. Over the past 10 years, HOTC has placed more than 10,000 volunteers who have donated over 110,000 hours of their time, skills and energy to community-based projects. Community beautification such as landscaping and painting, feeding the hungry, providing shelter and forever homes to animals, educating youth, assisting at events, providing companionship and smiles to young and old alike -- these are just some examples of the services HOTC volunteers provide. The rewards of volunteering are two-fold. Volunteers see firsthand the value of their work and commitment, learning compassion and understanding for those needing help in our very own community; non- profits and their clients receive assistance and manpower vital to their daily mission. A community that volunteers is more vibrant, engaged and successful; as are the individuals that live in it. Our success is all thanks to you. We look forward to serving the community for the next 10 years...and beyond! TEN YEARS OF VOLUNTEERS MAKING A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE IN THOMAS COUNTY The rewards of volunteering are multiplied when experienced with loved ones. Join us to create lasting family memories while benefiting your community. 2013-14 BoardHELP MAKE OUR 10TH ANNUAL HANDS ON THOMAS COUNTY DAY THE BIGGEST AND BEST SO FAR – OCTOBER 19

It’s that time of year when the citizen of Thomas County rally together to make a giant impact on our community. On Saturday, October 19th, volunteers from all over Thomas County (and some as far away as Valdosta, Tallahassee and Albany) will help area non-profits accomplish in a day what otherwise might be impossible for them to accomplish at all.

From 9:00 am to noon projects of all types – including but not limited to painting houses for Thomasville Landmarks in the Victoria Park area;

environmental clean-up for Birdsong Nature Center, Tall Timbers and Keep Thomas County Beautiful; feeding the hungry at a Manna Drop with America’s Second Harvest; community beautification for city agencies and

neighborhoods; animal care for Miss Kitty Feline Sanctuary, Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society, and Dancing Cloud Horse Rescue; Mail for Heroes, and Disaster Relief Orientation for American Red Cross – will unite the citizens of Thomas County in the common cause of making a positive difference in their very own community.

The morning of service will be topped off with a special 10th Anniversary Celebration Luncheon for participating volunteers at Cherokee Lake Park. Since it’s a 10th anniversary celebration, we hope to have extra fun goodies at this year’s event, including kid’s games, a disc golf putting exhibition with partners Red Hills Disc Golf, and a cash raffle for a hand-crafted, heavy-duty fire

pit created by students from SWGTC, just in time for the cooler weather to come!

Join us! Last year, in just one morning of service, a whopping 1200 volunteers donated 5000 hours of manpower at 48 different

project sites. Help us surpass last year’s record. All volunteers receive a 10th anniversary HOTC t-shirt and lunch provided by Granddaddy’s, plus the reward of a job well done for a good cause.

There’s something for everyone! Individuals, students, families, groups and businesses are welcome. Although there are some SHOTC (Student HOTC) sites available, not all sites are kid-safe. Junior Service League and the YMCA will provide free childcare for infants, toddlers and kids under 12. While at the “Y”, age-appropriate, adult supervised volunteer activities will be assigned to kids leaving parents free to get hands-on at other project sites.

While HOTC is entering its 10th year, I have only just finished my first year as Executive Director. It has been a whirlwind of events and volunteers that I have been proud to be a part of. This is the best job!

The 2012-13 year started with a bang! with our largest volunteer event ever, HOTC Day 2012: 1200 volunteers, 48 sites, 5000 hours of good work done. And it ended with a kapow! in June, with Project IMPACT summer service camp. Although a much smaller program (36 campers, 10 sites, 350 hours of service), it was an intensive week of non-stop daily service, which really helped affirm for me how important our mission is in the community – assisting our

partner non-profits and their clients; introducing community members to the many local non-profits and their missions; and helping to develop truly involved community members by engaging them in meaningful, hands-on volunteer service.

I would like to thank all of you – donors, sponsors, Board Members, participants and volunteers – for making my first year so rewarding, and for supporting HOTC over the past decade. I look forward to playing an integral part of the next 10 years, and hope you will continue to do so as well.
