Held from 12th to 21st July, 2010, the 2nd ASEAN Schools Games marked the first time for Malaysia to be the host country. According to the Deputy Prime Minister (PM), the 2nd ASEAN Schools Games gathers ASEAN youths “in the spirit of sports-manship to foster greater friendship and understand-ing among ASEAN nations.” “ASEAN Schools Games can be regarded as a junior version of our SEA Games”, said the Deputy PM, hence the school athletes can measure their perfor-mance in preparation for the SEA Games. “This event will be a significant milestone in the lives of our young men and women here,” added the Deputy PM.

The tiger is synonymous with Malaysia and South East Asia and it symbolizes strength, bravery, speed and agility – all the traits that we desire in our athletes.
The tiger’s golden coat is reminiscent of the colour of the medal to which every athlete aspires. The strength of the tiger also represents the strong bonds of friendship and understanding among the people of ASEAN.
The tiger personifies the hopes and aspirations of the partcipants of this sporting event.
The Petronas Twin Towers is a symbol of Malaysia’s pride in its ability to fulfill its national aspirations. The towers represent the determination of all Malaysians to move forward with the nation’s development agenda.
The unity and determination of Malaysians of all creeds and back-grounds in their pursuit of the hopes and aspirations of the nation is encap-sulated in the 1 Malaysia concept.
These values’ are reflected in the colours of the Games logo which represents the ASEAN spirit of peace and harmony. The colour “green” represents ASEAN’s commitment to the greening of the world while the pendulum symbolizes the spirit of sportsmanship among ASEAN nations.

Nasi Lemak is the national dish of Malaysia. It's eaten any time. If you are a citizen of Malaysia, you'll eat Nasi Lemak at breakfast, lunch, dinner...... Any time of the day! It's cooked in coconut milk, with pandan leaves and even ginger or a stalk of lemon grass. Nasi Lemak is available on almost every street corner and in almost every local-themed restaurant, served with everything from chicken to beef to cuttlefish. INGREDIENTS:Nasi Lemak:
1 cup rice 3 screwpine (or pandan) leaves salt to taste 1 grated coconut
Preparation: Clean the rice and drain. Squeeze out 2 cups of thick coconut milk with screwpine leaves. Add in salt. If you desire, you can also add in some sliced shallots and ginger. Cook the rice in a rice cooker. Serve this rice with sliced hard-boiled eggs, cucum-ber and sambal ikan bilis.
Nasi Lemak & Sambal Ikan Bilis rior to 1978, the four ASEAN countries comprising of Indone-
sia, Thailand, Singapore and Malay-sia met and discussed on a formation of a sports body governing all sports programmes and activities for school children in ASEAN coun-tries. In April 1978, a meeting was held in Jakarta, Indonesia where ASSC was formed. The founding members of ASSC were Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. At present, ASSC is made up of eight members with additional membership from Philip-pines, Brunei, Vietnam, and Cambo-dia. The ASSC celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2008 during the ASEAN Schools Sports Council 58th Technical Committee Meeting and 45th Management Committee Meet-ing held in Cebu City, Philippines
Background of ASEAN Schools Sports Councilfrom 3 – 6 December 2008. The outcome of the meeting in Cebu City, Philippines heralded a new chapter in the ASSC events whereby
all twelve sports in its calendar were merged and organized on a carni-val basis known as The ASEAN Schools Games (ASG). The ASG, similar to a mini SEA Games, is to be held annually beginning 2009. This landmark decision was a manifestation of rigorous discussion over
the two Technical Com-mittee meetings held in Singapore
on the 18 - 21 June 2007 and in Malay-sia on 4 - 7 December 2007. The organization of ASSC has evolved into an interesting develop-ments, such as the chairmanship of the council will be on a rotation basis where each member country will preside over the chairmanship on a two year term commencing 2004.

he colourful 2nd ASEAN Schools Games opening ceremony capti-
vated the international audience. Kwang Hwa Chinese Secondary School brass band got the audience fired up with an enthusiastic perfor-mance, followed by two songs
rendered by two young students. The march past of contingents from 8 participating countries, accom-panied by 5 marching bands entered the field to a rapturous audience. This energetic entrance was followed by the 1Malaysia dance, embodying the
multi-racial nature of this country. A teacher from SK Bukit Pantai, Mr. Cheng Jui Kia, noted that this open-ing ceremony had portrayed the 1 Malaysia concept very successfully as it displayed the togetherness among multi-racial Malaysians.

First time here in Malaysia, the Filipi-nos are fired up and ready to win this 2nd ASEAN Schools Games 2010. With the strength of 23 officials and 64 athletes, arriving here at 3am today, the contingent overcame their tired-
ness with a fighting spirit to make their mark in this ASEAN School Games. “We expect to win,” said Alyanna, who will be competing in the Basketball event. Her teammate, Cheskie Tantoco, claimed she was “excited and overwhelmed” to be here in Malaysia and representing her country. “We hope to bring home the championship,” said Cheskie when asked about her hopes and expecta-tions in this ASEAN Schools Games. Indeed, the Philippines are here to win and make their mark.
Kepong Secondary School’s choir, with the strength of 200 members and conducted by Zachary and Moo De Qing, had caught the audience’s attention with their four melodious songs entitled ‘Standing in The Eyes of The World’, ‘Perpaduan Bangsa’, ‘Gemuruh’, and ‘Together We Are One’. Their one month’s practice has proven worthwhile through their great performance at the ASG2 open-ing ceremony.

“Alhamdulil-lah, my busi-ness is good today,” said Madam Alina, a hawker outside the Cheras Foot-ball Stadium.
She had been there since 8.00 a.m.
and was glad of her roaring business . There was a big crowd in front of her stall as many people were buying burgers, sausages and drinks throughout the opening ceremony. It could be because she was able to com-municate in the English Language with the athletes and delegates from other countries who patronised her stall. Business was good all day!
Smiles could be seen on the cute faces of Bandar Baru Seri Petaling 2 primary students. In blue, they performed the 1Malaysia dance. They are all from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. “We are happy!” exclaimed the students. They were so excited to perform the dance although they had to perform in the blazing hot sun. They were eagerly wait-ing for their turn to perform since 7 am . Their determination made the performance a success and it captured everyone’s attention.
