A MESSAGE FROM FATHER RICH

Some people have asked why we are celebrating the Second Sunday of Advent instead of the Feast of Immaculate Conception. The answer if that the Second Sunday of Advent has a higher ranking than the Feast of Immaculate Conception and the feast day is transferred to Monday Dec. 9th instead. With the transfer to Monday the feast of Immaculate Conception is not a holyday of obligation. Since it is the Feast day the parish is named after, I have decided to celebrate an evening Mass at 7 PM besides the morning mass at 7:45 AM. Please consider attending one of the Masses in honor of our Blessed Mother. Over the last month I have met with the Finance Committee and the School Board and they have recommended that after the close of this school year we discontinue bus service for the school. This past year we decided to offer the opportunity of morning and afternoon ridership hoping to increase revenue but have seen a decrease in revenue of $4000.00 and the cost of repairs has continue to rise. I am accepting their recom-mendation and wanted to inform the parish. Lastly, I wish to thank the Knight of Columbus, Hoff Heating and Air Conditioning, and Custom Design and Fence for sponsoring the 2020 Calendars for the Parish.

God Bless, Father Rich

DEACON NEAL’S REFLECTION CORNER

In today's Gospel, we hear of John the Baptist baptizing people in the desert. Many people were coming to him. It was kind of a popular thing to do. Even the Saduccees and Pharisees came to him. John knew their hearts when he called them a brood of vipers. They were not coming for repentance but we're going through the motions. John tells them to produce fruit of their repentance. They would need to change and seek the truth instead of power. Today, when we ask God for mercy and repent of our sins, Christ asks us the same thing, "Can we produce fruit of our repentance?" We just can't go through the motions. We need to prove that we appreciate God's love and mercy and produce some fruit. Start out with some act of kindness that you wouldn't normally do. Maybe study more about the faith so you care share it with others. There are many things we can do but number 1 is pray. Pray that we all be open to experience an Advent of seeking the love of Christ in our hearts.

God Bless, Deacon Neal

OUT AND ABOUT

Music Ministry The goal of the music ministry at Immaculate Conception is to support liturgical celebrations, to foster “oneness in worship”, and to create an environment that inspires sincere prayer and praise through full, conscious, and active participation in the liturgy. The ministry is in need of

instrumentalists and singers to participate in a variety of choirs, ensembles, cantors and other musical opportunities.

Children’s choirs, teen ensembles, adult ensembles and choirs are all a part of the growing ministry here at Immaculate

Conception. If you are interested please contact Todd Mesler!Contact: [email protected]

ICOM SCHOOL HAPPENINGS

The sixth-grade class at Immaculate Conception School is coordinating the Adopt-a-Family and Brown Bag collection as their service project. Our parish and school community has adopted families from our local St. Vincent DePaul food pantry and those gifts are due by December 10th. There is a collection box in the back of church. In addition, we will have a “brown bag” food

collection for Christmas meals for our clients at the food pantry.

The brown bag collection will be open to all parish families. The goal of the brown bag collection is to create approximately 125 boxes to assist local families with their Christmas meals. After Masses December 7-8, ICOM students will hand out brown paper

bags in front of church. A list of nonperishable food items will be attached to the brown paper bags. The following weekend, December 14-15, families will return their bags to the food pantry or to church.
