8/14/2019 2nd Wright Letter to Tasini

NEWYORKCOUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEEKEITH L.T.WRIGHT, COUNTY LEADER
February 9, 2010
Jonathan TasiniJonathan Tasini for US Senate
PO Box 302New York, NY 10040
Dear Mr. Tasini:
I am in receipt of both letters and regret that you do not believe that I have addressed your core issues.
However, a much larger question remains as to why you would write such letters in the first place
attacking New York Countys endorsement process given your silence on Senate endorsement processes
that have already taken place for months.
Your claim, for example, that you would like to halt New York Countys endorsement process because it
is undemocratic, non-transparent and a backroom-deal process is powerful rhetoric until one realizes
that fifty six endorsements have already taken place in the United States Senate primary dating back
months, and you were mute when they occurred. In fact, I am unaware of one instance where you
questioned any of the fifty six endorsements even after they were made. In response, you write that you
certainly intendto push for open, transparent, honest debate, (emphasis added) but the incontrovertible
fact is that you havent. In fifty six instances you did not challenge their processes, results or motivations.Such inaction on this issue fifty six times prior to New York Countys endorsement exposes you to the
same charge that you level at New York County; of acting only in your own self-interest. That charge
of self-interest gains much more credibility when our endorsement process is an open one and invites you
to speakbefore an endorsement will be made, where other counties assuredly did not ever afford you that
opportunity. To be sure, political self-interest by a candidate is acceptable and understandable. However,
what is not acceptable is for you to impugn the integrity of New York Countys endorsement process as
undemocratic in the name of the people when your true motivation may be simply political self-interest.
Again, to ensure that I am not missing anything, I ask you the same question that you avoided answering
in my first letter: please send me copies of any strongly worded letters like the one you sent to me
challenging any of the prior fifty six United States Senate endorsements as non-transparent,
undemocratic and backroom deals. Further, please provide examples of where you were ever permitted
to speak before such endorsements took place. Your utter silence on this key point speaks volumes.

NEWYORKCOUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEEKEITH L.T.WRIGHT, COUNTY LEADER
As for your apparent concern that a Democratic United States Senator addressed the Executive
Committee, United States Senators, as well as other government officials, will always have the
opportunity to share with the political leadership in New York County what they are doing. Should you
obtain the Senate seat or subsequently become a government official, you will be afforded the same
opportunity. I should also note that it was only after Senator Gillibrand requested to speak before the
Executive Committee that you made the same request.
Finally, I reiterate again my hope that you will attend the endorsement meeting on Thursday.
Sincerely,
Keith L.T. Wright
New York County Democratic Leader
