INT. CORRIDOR

A dark, gloomy corridor with exploding conduits emittingflashes of electricity occupies the opening camera shot. Afew seconds later, the view starts to progress down thecorridor. All that can be seen is damage. The notable silenceis chilling when, suddenly, the sound of footsteps scurryingfrom nearby can be heard. The camera stops and pans aroundto move down a connecting corridor. Venting plasma gasprevents us from seeing more than 2 meters in front so thecamera starts to move towards the gas. It is about to moveinto the gas when two worried, paranoid Nausicaans come intothe shot. They look at the connecting corridor, the one wejust came from, and slowly walk towards it.

NAUSICAAN 1Well?

Nausicaan 2 looks at his own tricorder type device.

NAUSICAAN 2Nothing.

Nausicaan 1 growls with annoyance.

NAUSICAAN 1He's here... somewhere.

NAUSICAAN 2But where?

Beat.

NAUSICAAN 1He's close.

The two of them just look around, wondering. Not long after,Nausicaan 1 cautiously walks into the connecting corridor. Nausicaan 2 follows as the camera switches to another angle. They continue to look around their position anxiously asthey walk down the corridor.

NAUSICAAN 1 (CONT'D)(quietly)

How far?

Nausicaan 2 looks at his tricorder.

NAUSICAAN 2Just another few corridors.

The two of them continue walking, suddenly hearing approachingfootsteps after a time. They stop and look panicked.

Page 3: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 2.

Nausicaan 1 looks at Nausicaan 2, who is frantically scanningthe area with his tricorder. Nausicaan 2 shakes his head athis colleague, who looks ahead, trying to see past the damagedconduits that are continuing to emit flashes of electricity. They can still hear the sound of approaching footsteps andNausicaan 1 starts to slowly back away. His colleague istoo preoccupied with his tricorder to notice when a figurestarts to walk out of the venting plasma gas. His tricorderstarts to beep, forcing him to look up and see the figureonly just ahead of his position. He gasps with shock andlooks towards his colleague, who is nowhere to be seen. Clearly surprised, he finds himself frozen and looks back tothe figure, who is now upon his position.

The camera cuts to Nausicaan 1, running through the corridoras we hear the distant sound of a screaming Nausicaan, whosuddenly falls silent. He is clearly rattled and heavilypants as he tries to reach his destination. He trips overan outstretched panel and, with a giant thud, hits the floorface first. The camera changes angle to show a close up ofhis face as he remains on the floor, not moving a singlemuscle. A few seconds later, he groans and starts to move. He doesn't find it easy as he continues to try to get to hisfeet. When he does, he continues to limp down the corridorand move towards his final destination. He arrives at acontrol panel and tries to get into an escape pod. Thecomputer, however, continues to deny him access. Hefrantically types away at the panel, but, time and again, heis denied access.

NAUSICAAN 1(disbelieving)

No...

He refuses to give up and tries again. The sound of theelectrical conduits startles him as they begin to emit morefrequent and extreme flashes. With a worried demeanor, hestarts to back away as the figure appears, walking throughthe flashes. The Nausicaan turns and runs away, not evenknowing where to run. The camera follows his progress as hearrives at a door and enters.

INT. ENGINEERING -- CONTINUOUS

Nausicaan 1 closes the door and locks it. Standing with hisback up against the door, he tries to regain his breath. Hetries to be as quiet as possible, listening for sounds outsideof the door. Footsteps. He hears footsteps and panic beginsto set in. Moving away from the door, the Nausicaan startsto check various computer consoles, when, suddenly, he findssomething of interest. The camera, briefly, shows that theconsole is showing the matter/antimatter mix.

NAUSICAAN 1(confused)

What?

He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again,to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back tothe console to show that the matter/antimatter mix has risento dangerous levels. A last look at the eyes of a scaredNausicaan before...

CUT TO:

INT. SHIP

The camera is looking through the viewscreen of another shipat the Nausicaan freighter, holding in space. Then, suddenly, the freighter explodes and debris goes everywhere. The viewremains stationary before we hear the sound of a computerprocessing and then gradual footsteps. The camera pans aroundto show the boots of a particular individual. Gradually thecamera does a reveal shot, moving up the body of theindividual to show... a smiling Cardassian face as we....

ACT ONE

FADE IN:

EXT. SPACE

The Enterprise drops out of warp and glides through space toarrive at Starbase 47.

CROSS (V.O.)Captain's Log, Stardate 79883.1. The Enterprise has been ordered toStarbase 47 where I have a meetingwith the commander of this sector,Admiral Bicknell. The Admiral willvery shortly be transporting aboardalong with Captain Robert Williams. Beyond that, I have absolutely noidea what we are doing here.

INT. ENTERPRISE -- BRIEFING ROOM

Captain NEIL CROSS is sitting at the head of the table in anempty room. He sits there, leaning back, as he reads a padd. He is interrupted by the swooshing of the doors and theappearance of Commander TALORA. She stands to the side andholds out an arm ushering Admiral James BICKNELL, followedby Captain Robert WILLIAMS, into the room and towards Cross. Cross gets to his feet and extends a hand to Bicknell, whoshakes it.

CROSSGood to see you again, Admiral.

BICKNELLYou too, Captain.

Bicknell turns and holds his arm out towards Williams.

BICKNELL (CONT'D)May I present Captain Robert Williams.

Williams steps forward and Cross shakes the proffered hand.

WILLIAMSA pleasure to meet you, Captain.

CROSSLikewise, Captain. Please, gentlemen, take a seat.

Cross walks over and sits down in his chair. Bicknell andWilliams take their positions at the table. Bicknell looksover to see Talora walking towards them.

BICKNELLThat will be all, Commander.

Page 6: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT ONE 5.

Talora stops and nods her head in acknowledgment. She turnsaround and EXITS.

INT. ENTERPRISE -- BRIDGE -- CONTINUOUS

Talora stands there, on the Bridge, and ponders why she hasbeen excluded from the meeting.

CUT TO:

INT. ENTERPRISE -- BRIEFING ROOM

As before.

CROSSCan I get you anything, gentlemen?

Bicknell shakes his head in response.

BICKNELLCaptain, we are here in regards to acritical situation with the CardassianUnion.

Cross looks intrigued and somewhat surprised.

BICKNELL (CONT'D)Two days ago, we received a classifiedreport of a new secret weapon thathas been developed by the Cardassians. The report stated that this weaponwas of unknown origin and somethingdeemed revolutionary.

CROSSWhat kind of weapon?

BICKNELLWe don't know. All we know is thatonly 17 hours ago, a Nausicaanfreighter was lost with all hands inthe Orias system. It is the thirdreported incident within that systemin the last eight days.

WILLIAMSThe others were a Bolian sciencevessel and an Andorian freighter.

BICKNELLBoth lost... with all hands.

Cross looks intrigued.

Page 7: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT ONE 6.

CROSSI know, in recent years, that theOrias System has been used bysmugglers and pirates involved inillegal activity. The Cardassianshave had serious problems in tryingto contain it.

WILLIAMSThey don't have the resources or themanpower to deal with such anincident.

BICKNELLWhat's of more interest is that theseparticular incidents, combined withreports of a new weapon, leads us tobelieve that this is no coincidence.

CROSSIndeed not.

(beat)With all due respect, Admiral, howdoes this concern me?

BICKNELLWe want the Enterprise to go toCardassia and confront the Unionabout this. However...

Cross frowns.

CROSSYes?

BICKNELLWe won't be needing the Captain ofthe Enterprise for this mission.

Cross looks surprised.

CROSSI'm being relieved of command?

BICKNELLDon't make it sound so dramatic,Captain. This is a delicate situationand we need a more diplomaticcommanding officer for this mission. One more familiar with theCardassians. Someone like AdmiralEdward Jellico.

CROSSAlthough he's been retired for manyyears.

Page 8: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT ONE 7.

BICKNELLExactly. That's why we have someoneelse in mind.

CROSSAdmiral, I must inform you that I ammore than familiar with theCardassians.

BICKNELLYes, I have read your logs on thosesituations and have concluded thatyour particular talents will be ofbetter use elsewhere.

CROSSOh?

Bicknell leans forward.

BICKNELLWe want you to find out what thehell is happening in the Orias System,Cross. We want you to ascertainwhether this is the handiwork of anew Cardassian weapon and, if it is,we want you to take it out.

CROSSYou want me to destroy it?

BICKNELLThat's right. You have continuallydemonstrated high ability in tacticalsituations. Outside of the moralimplications of the Coular Incident, the tactics used were nothing shortof outstanding. I, and Starfleetoperations, recognize that talent. This potential new weapon is a clearthreat to the security of theFederation. We can't allow it tocontinue and you're the best man tomake sure that doesn't happen.

Cross seems uncomfortable with that compliment, especiallyafter everything that happened after the incident.

CROSSHow will the Cardassians react to aFederation starship coming into theirspace and destroying their property?

Bicknell shrugs.

Page 9: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT ONE 8.

BICKNELLWhat would they say? The Cardassiansneed us a lot more then we need them. Besides, if all goes well, there isno need for them to ever find out.

Cross frowns.

CROSSA cloaking device?

BICKNELLThat's right. We have a ship standingby not too far from here. YouLieutenant Commander Grey, LieutenantQuinlan, and Lieutenant Dojar willbe the command crew for this mission.

CROSSAye, sir.

Bicknell leans forward.

BICKNELLBut I must remind you that thismission is top secret. No one, including your team, must know whatthe mission is. They are to followyour orders blindly and assist youin whatever fashion you see fit.

CROSSI'm not allowed to tell them anything?

Cross shakes his head.

BICKNELLI would ideally prefer it if no one, outside of us three, knew the trueextent of your or Captain Williams'smission. It is up to you whether,in the interest of the mission, youfeel the need to inform someone else.

Cross nods in acknowledgment.

BICKNELL (CONT'D)Be warned: the ramifications oftelling them will be yours, and yoursalone, to answer to.

CROSSUnderstood, Admiral.

Page 10: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT ONE 9.

BICKNELLIn addition to those stated officers,an Engineering team, includingLieutenant Kinnan, was transferredover from the Leviathan a day ago. They are already on your ship, waiting.

CROSSIs there any reason why they havebeen assigned as opposed to anEnterprise Engineering team?

BICKNELL(dry)

Yes. The Leviathan team havedemonstrated top of the range skillswhen it comes to missions ofimportance, such as this.

Cross seems taken aback by that revelation and merely nodsin acknowledgment. His eyes then move onto Williams beforereturning to Bicknell.

CROSSAm I to assume that Captain Williamshere will be commanding the Enterprisein my absence?

Bicknell looks to Williams, gesturing for him to answer thequestion.

WILLIAMSThat is correct, Captain.

BICKNELLCaptain Williams is the perfect manfor this mission. He has dealt withthe Cardassians many times in recentyears.

CROSSAs have I.

Bicknell sighs.

BICKNELLCaptain, I can see you're havingissues with this mission so I'lljust put your mind to rest now. Aside from the Coular incident, yourdiplomatic abilities are renownedthroughout the Federation. You have, however, faced numerous inquiriesand your decisions have beenquestioned many times.

BICKNELL (CONT'D)We don't need to introduce thiselement of risk into an alreadydelicate situation. I will notexplain my orders anymore. You andyour team will be leaving within thehour. The transfer of command willtake place in your ready room justbefore you leave. Make all necessarypreparations.

Bicknell, followed by Williams, rises to his feet. Crossjust sits there for a few seconds contemplating before alsorising to his feet.

CROSSYes, sir.

Bicknell walks away from the table, followed by Williams, and EXITS. The camera focuses in on Cross who takes a deepbreath and slumps into his chair.

INT. ENTERPRISE -- ENGINEERING

Lieutenant Erik GREY is standing at a control panel whenBOYLE comes from behind and stands over his shoulder.

BOYLEChecking the plasma manifold?

GREYJust making sure everything is inorder before I leave.

Grey scoffs.

GREY (CONT'D)I don't know what they're thinkingof, giving us such short notice.

BOYLEDo you know what the mission is?

Beat.

GREYNo.

BOYLEReally? Hmm... I hope they're notkeeping you out of the loop.

Grey scoffs.

Page 12: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT ONE 11.

GREYOf course not. I'm sure if and whenwe need to know, they'll tell us.

BOYLEYou sure about that? I didn't thinkyou had that much faith in theCaptain, Erik.

Grey just turns and gives Boyle a menacing look.

GREYYou should have no problems whileI'm away.

BOYLEDon't worry, Lieutenant. I run atight little ship around here.

GREYI'm sure you do.

Grey turns around and EXITS. The camera changes angle toshow a close up of Boyle, who smiles as she watches him go.

CUT TO:

INT. ENTERPRISE -- READY ROOM

Cross is walking across the room gathering a few items whenthe door chimes.

CROSSCome.

Talora walks in, Cross notices her and stops.

CROSS (CONT'D)Commander.

TALORAI thought you would like to knowthat Dojar, Grey and Quinlan are allstanding by for transport to yourundisclosed destination.

Cross smiles.

CROSSCurious, Talora?

TALORAIt is not a quality absent amongRomulans.

CROSSI'm sure.

Page 13: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT ONE 12.

TALORAWhich is why I am equally curiousabout our new commanding officer onour forthcoming trip to Cardassia. I am more than used to seeing thesesort of quick command changes happenon a Romulan ship... but not on aFederation one.

Cross stands there and smiles at his first officer.

CROSSSometimes the need is just and I'msorry that you've been left out ofthe loop this time.

TALORAIt is somewhat disconcerting, sir.

(beat)To be suddenly omitted from decisionsand orders that are clearly going toaffect the operations of this ship.

CROSSI know, and it's not my choice. Itis up to Captain Williams if he feelsyou need to know.

TALORAOf course.

CROSSStill... I have complete faith inyour ability to do the job even inlight of the current situation.

TALORAThank you, Captain.

The door chimes. Cross looks to the door.

CROSSCome.

Williams walks into the room.

WILLIAMSIt is time, Captain.

Cross nods in acknowledgment.

CROSSOf course. Computer transfer commandcodes to Captain Robert Williams. Authorization Cross Alpha Beta Two.

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT ONE 13.

COMPUTERUSS Enterprise is now under thecommand of Captain Robert Williams.

WILLIAMSI relieve you, sir.

CROSSI stand relieved.

Cross takes a deep breath.

CROSS (CONT'D)Certainly an informal ceremony.

WILLIAMSThe best way really. After all...it's not for long.

Williams smiles in what comes across as a bit over-friendly. Cross notices this.

CROSSNo.

(beat, skeptical)Of course it isn't.

There is a beat of awkward silence as Cross and Williamsjust look at each other.

WILLIAMSWell...

Williams claps his hands together.

WILLIAMS (CONT'D)We really should get underway. Weboth have our missions, Captain.

Williams looks to Talora.

WILLIAMS (CONT'D)Commander, get us under way as soonas the Captain and his team havedeparted.

TALORAYes, sir.

Talora walks over to the door and EXITS. Cross takes a lastlook at Williams and then walks towards the door.

WILLIAMSGood luck to you, Captain?

Cross stops and looks back.

CROSSTo us both.

Cross turns back around and EXITS. Williams stands in themiddle of the room and looks around. He walks over to thedesk and sits down in the chair behind it. He swivelsslightly in the chair as he relaxes.

WILLIAMSOh, yes.

(beat)I like this. I could certainly getused to it.

Quinlan smiles.

QUINLANJust means more of a challenge forthe likes of us, Lieutenant.

DOJAR(sarcastic)

Great. Another one.

QUINLANAny idea where we're going?

GREYAll I know is that the Starbase willbe redirecting our matter streams toanother location. Nothing more.

Cross enters the room and walks over to the transporter padd.

CROSSTime to be leaving, people.

QUINLANLeaving for what, Captain?

CROSSTo do your duty, Lieutenant.

DOYLEThe Trafalgar is equipped with athird generation low-observabilityhull plating and sensor damper fields. The Trafalgar, in particular, comesequipped with an interphase cloakingdevice. It is the first Eidolonclass ship to be commissioned andhas been developed, in secret, dueto developments in the currentpolitical climate. The first"official" Eidolon class ship willnot arrive for a short while.

CROSSWhat kind of developments?

DOYLEI'm sure you've noticed a few issueswith certain governments lately. These issues could present a possiblethreat to the Federation and that'swhere we come in.

QUINLANWe, as in you marines?

DOYLEWe, marines, are here due to thenature of the mission.

GREYThat mission being?

Doyle smiles.

DOYLEI have no more information aboutthat then you do, Lieutenant. All Iknow is what I've just told you. Anything more then that would bepure speculation.

Doyle turns back to Cross.

DOYLEThey are, sir.

Cross nods in acknowledgment and then looks to Quinlan andDojar.

CROSSStations, please.

Quinlan walks down to the helm and takes control while Dojarwalks over to Tactical. Both of them look over their controlpanels. Quinlan appears slightly confused as she tries tofind where everything is.

QUINLAN(mutters)

Whoever said a ship is a ship was adamn fool.

CROSSWhat was that, Lieutenant?

QUINLANNothing, Captain. Nothing at all.

Cross looks to Grey and then to Doyle.

CROSSWould you show Lieutenant Grey toEngineering, Mr. Doyle?

DOYLEYes, sir.

Doyle looks to Grey.

DOYLE (CONT'D)Lieutenant Kinnan has said that he'slooking forward to meeting you again.

Grey looks slightly surprised.

GREYKinnan's here? Robert Kinnan, fromthe Leviathan?

DOYLEThat's right.

Quinlan sighs.

QUINLANYeah, somehow, I don't think this isgoing to be too much fun.

ELRIS (CONT'D)What do you make of all this,Commander?

TALORAThis is no different to any othermission.

Elris looks slightly surprised by that response.

ELRISOh, come on. I don't remember ourown Captain being reassigned before. Court-martialed, kidnapped andthreatened? Yes, but not reassigned.

(beat)There has to be something more tothis.

The camera changes to a close up view of Talora.

TALORAPossibly, Doctor.

(beat, mutters)Possibly.

KINNANLooking for something to do, crewman?

GREYWhat did you have in mind?

Kinnan looks to the side and realizes it is Grey. He smilesand holds out his hand. Grey shakes it.

KINNANErik, good to see you again.

GREYYou too, Lieutenant.

Grey looks around Engineering as Kinnan watches him.

KINNANImpressive, isn't it?

GREYIt certainly is that.

KINNANCertainly nothing like the Phoenixclass ships we work on. I wasespecially impressed with the sizeof slipstream drive.

GREYHow the hell have they made it socompact?

Kinnan smiles.

KINNANI'm still trying to figure it out.

There is a short beat of awkward silence.

KINNAN (CONT'D)Erik...

(beat)I heard about Boyle.

Grey takes a deep breath.

Page 23: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT TWO 22.

GREYDid you now?

KINNANYeah. Do you wanna talk about it?

Beat.

GREYThere's no need.

KINNANYou sure?

Grey nods in an over assertive manner.

KINNAN (CONT'D)Okay then. Remember that I'm hereif you ever need to talk. Don'tforget that I'm your friend.

GREYNoted.

There is another beat of awkward silence.

KINNANWell... in the meantime I guesssomeone should go and check on theinduction core stats.

GREYI'll take care of that.

KINNANYou sure? I've got people here whocould do it.

Grey shakes his head.

GREYNo, I'll take care of it. Gives mea chance to do something and to havea look around.

KINNANOkay then.

Grey walks off. Kinnan watches him go before taking a deepbreath and going back to work.

INT. ENTERPRISE -- CORRIDOR

The camera is facing a closed turbolift. A few seconds later,it opens and Talora emerges. She walks past the camera, which pans around to follow her down the corridor.

INT. ENTERPRISE -- SICKBAY -- CONTINUOUS

The camera slowly moves back from a wide shot of the area toshow Williams lying down on a bed taking the physical testwe know from the TOS episode "The Corbomite Maneuver."

WILLIAMS...and she then kindly informed methat it wasn't a Romulan but a Vulcan. How was I to know any different?

Elris smiles.

ELRIS(surprised)

You had really never seen a Vulcanbefore? Not even a picture?

WILLIAMSNo, my Dad wasn't overly fond ofthem. He said all that logic wasn'tgood for the soul. Without a bit ofemotion or feeling, what's the pointin existence?

ELRISAn interesting view on life.

In the background, we see the doors open as Talora walkstowards Williams and Elris, who haven't noticed her yet.

WILLIAMSIf you think that's interesting thenyou should hear what my Mother thinksof the Tholians.

Elris crosses her arms and smiles.

ELRISNow, something tells me that I'vegot to hear this.

TALORADoctor.

Elris looks over at Talora.

ELRISCommander, hi.

Talora looks down at Williams.

WILLIAMSCommander, how long until we arriveat Cardassia?

TALORAApproximately 3 hours, sir.

Williams nods in acknowledgment as he looks over at Elris.

WILLIAMSAre we done here, Doctor?

Elris takes a look at her medical scanner before turningback to Williams.

ELRISFor now, yes. However, you're goingto have to tell me that story aboutyour mother and the Tholians.

Williams smiles.

WILLIAMSYou can count on it. How about wemeet up for a drink later?

ELRISSounds good. What time?

WILLIAMSI'm not sure yet. I've got somethings to take care of when we reachCardassia but they shouldn't taketoo long. I'll be in touch.

Elris nods in acknowledgment and then walks away. Williamssits up, stretches over and grabs a padd, which he hands toTalora.

WILLIAMS (CONT'D)This is a list of things that I'llneed for my session with theCardassian delegates.

Talora looks over the padd and frowns.

WILLIAMS (CONT'D)Is there a problem, Commander? Something on your mind?

TALORANo, sir. Not at all.

FADE IN:

INT. TRAFALGAR -- BRIDGE

Cross gets up out of the command chair as he looks at theviewscreen. The camera changes angle to show the viewscreenwhere this small, unknown craft shoots across space. Thecamera returns to a wideshot of the Bridge which allows usto see Quinlan at the helm, Dojar at Tactical and Doyle atOperations.

CROSSIdentify it, Doyle.

Doyle works away at the console.

DOYLEI can't, sir.

Cross looks over at Doyle, perplexed.

CROSSWhat do you mean, you can't?

DOYLEWell, for many reasons, Captain. Not only is it of unknownconfiguration but the hull is builtout of Duranium composites.

QUINLANSeems everyone is trying that trickthese days.

CROSSIt's also something the Cardassianshave done for many years.

Dojar looks at Cross.

DOJARYou think it's Cardassian, sir?

Beat.

CROSSI never said that, Lieutenant.

QUINLANIt would make sense. After all, itis in Cardassian space.

Cross stands there and contemplates.

Page 28: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

CROSSPlot in a pursuit course.

QUINLANIs this what we're after, Captain?

Cross ignores that question as he takes a deep breath.

CROSSHalf impulse power.

Beat.

QUINLANAye, sir.

The camera changes back to show the viewscreen as the unknowncraft gets closer and closer.

CUT TO:

INT. SHIP

The camera is looking through the same viewscreen of theship as was seen earlier. All that can be seen is emptyspace. The camera remains stationary as the Cardassian facefrom earlier walks to the viewscreen and stares into space.

CUT TO:

INT. TRAFALGAR -- BRIDGE

Doyle's console starts to bleep.

DOYLECaptain, the ship is reducing speed.

CROSSReduce speed to compensate.

QUINLANAye, sir.

Cross walks over to Dojar.

Dojar shakes his head.

DOJARI'm detecting nothing, sir.

Cross turns back to look at the viewscreen.

CROSS(mutters)

What are they up to?

Cross stands there and stares at the viewscreen.

CROSS (CONT'D)I assume it's also protected fromtransporting over there.

DOJAR"They" have some kind of shieldingin place, sir.

Cross sighs as he stands there and continues to contemplate.

CROSSCross to Kinnan.

INTERCUT:

INT. TRAFALGAR -- ENGINEERING

Kinnan stops as he walks through Engineering. In thebackground we see Grey looking at Kinnan and listening in onthe conversation.

KINNANKinnan here, Captain.

CROSS'S COMM VOICEHave you been following what's goingon up here?

KINNANYes, sir.

CROSS'S COMM VOICEWe need to find a way to get ontothat ship.

KINNANI've been running some scans on theirshields, Captain. I've seen somethingsimilar before on a Kevoan freighter. If I'm right then they could sharethe same flaws as the Kevoans. Ajagoholz pulse would produce a bigenough gap to beam through.

CROSS'S COMM VOICEWhat about the cloak?

Kinnan sighs.

Cross stands there and ponders over this option.

CROSSDo it.

INTERCUT:

INT. TRAFALGAR -- ENGINEERING

KINNANAye, sir.

Kinnan turns around and walks over to a nearby control panel. The camera follows him, with Grey standing and looking on inthe background.

KINNAN (CONT'D)Emitting the pulse.

INTERCUT:

INT. TRAFALGAR -- BRIDGE

Cross turns to look at Doyle who, while looking down at thispanel, starts to slowly nod. He glances up at Cross.

DOYLEIt's working, Captain.

INTERCUT:

INT. SHIP

The camera shows the same view as before, in relative silenceuntil a slight beeping comes from the computer panel. Thecamera moves down to show a hand come into view as it startsto press various buttons. Moments later the hand disappearsfrom the view. Captain...

CROSS(concerned)

What is it?

DOYLEThe pulse... it's starting tofeedback!

CROSSKinnan?

INTERCUT:

INT. TRAFALGAR -- ENGINEERING

Kinnan starts to work frantically away at the control panel.

KINNANI don't understand it, Captain. This shouldn't be happening.

CROSS'S COMM VOICEA moot point, Lieutenant.

KINNANI'm gonna have to shut it down orwe'll risk blowing out the...

The intercom cuts out at the same time as the lights inEngineering go down and the emergency siren starts to sound.

KINNAN (CONT'D)(bewildered)

What the hell?

Grey is working at another control panel.

GREYThe feedback has created a powersurge in the QIC. The attenuatorcoils aren't holding the inductionin check. We're looking at aninduction overload.

Grey looks to Kinnan.

GREY (CONT'D)We're going to have to eject thecore.

Kinnan runs over to the control panel.

Page 32: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT THREE 31.

KINNANNo, I've been studying these systemsfor the past day. I know how I canget the attenuator coils andconfinement fields back online.

Grey frowns as he looks down at the control panel.

GREYWhat? I don't see how. There hasbeen a breach and...

KINNANErik, trust me, I can do this.

Kinnan is frantically working away at the control panel.

INTERCUT:

INT. TRAFALGAR -- BRIDGE

The lights on the Bridge go down.

CROSSReport!

DOJAR(alarmed)

All systems are down, I have nocomputer control, we've lostcommunication and I'm detecting apower fluctuation throughout theship.

CROSSWhat's causing it?

DOJARThat ship seems to have fed backsome kind of unknown electricalimpulse into our system.

CROSSDamage?

Dojar takes a moment as he looks over the control panel. Hefrowns, confused.

DOJARWhat? This doesn't make any sense.

CROSSWhat is it?

Page 33: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT THREE 32.

DOJARThere are security forcefields inplace throughout the ship. We'realso suffering a continual powerloss to an unknown source.

CROSSAn unknown source?

Dojar shrugs, confused.

DOJARI don't know, sir. It appears to bein the computer core. I don'tunderstand it.

CROSSAre we still cloaked?

DOJARYes, sir.

Cross frowns and walks over to the turbolift only to bedeflected by a forcefield.

CROSS(frustrated, shouts)

What the hell is going on?

INTERCUT:

INT. TRAFALGAR -- ENGINEERING

The room is in relative darkness with a flurry of activitygoing on.

GREYRobert, the attenuator coils aren'tclosing.

Kinnan ignores the comment as he continues to franticallywork away. Grey looks at him before the console bleeps.

GREY (CONT'D)The rate of induction is approachingdangerous levels.

Grey looks back to Kinnan.

GREY (CONT'D)Kinnan!

KINNANI'm working on it.

Page 34: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

Grey looks panicked as he stands there and watches Kinnanwork before the emergency sirens stop and Kinnan smiles, proudly.

KINNAN (CONT'D)Voila.

Grey looks bewildered.

GREYI don't know how the hell you didthat.

KINNANThis ship and I... we go way back.

GREYBut that's not the end of ourproblems. We have no computercontrol, no communications and thereare security forcefields in placethroughout the ship.

Kinnan sighs.

KINNAN(sarcastic)

Is that all?

Grey shakes his head.

GREYAnd the imminent warp core breachhas resulted in the emergencybulkheads coming into place. Withno power, we have no way of movingthem. We're stuck in here.

KINNANThen I guess we better start comingup with ideas.

Grey stands there and contemplates possible options as Kinnanturns around and walks over to another station. Greycontinues to stand there and think as he takes a glance tohis side.

GREYHey, you!

A human Starfleet officer, Ensign VERCOE, walks over to Grey.

VERCOEMe, sir?

GREYYes, you. What's your name, Ensign?

VERCOEVercoe, sir. Ensign Vercoe.

GREYWell, Vercoe, we don't have time tobe standing here, doing nothing. Get over to the EPS converters andcheck on the flow density.

VERCOEYes, sir.

Vercoe walks off as Grey stands there and looks slightlyapprehensive about the entire situation.

INT. ENTERPRISE -- TRANSPORTER ROOM

Ozran is working at the transporter console when Williamswalks into the room and looks at Ozran.

OZRANI've received the coordinates of thediplomats, Captain.

WILLIAMSThen, by all means, bring them up.

Ozran activates the controls as two Cardassian figures re-materialize out of the transporter matter stream. Williamssmiles and walks towards them.

WILLIAMS (CONT'D)Gentlemen, it is a pleasure to meetyou. I am Captain Robert Williams, commanding officer of the Enterprise.

DEVALEI am called Devale.

WILLIAMSPlease, if you would come this way.

The two Cardassians do as asked and walk out of the door. Williams looks over at Ozran as he follows.

WILLIAMS (CONT'D)Thank you, Chief.

OZRANYou're welcome, sir.

Williams EXITS as Ozran goes back to working at the console.

CUT TO:

INT. TRAFALGAR -- BRIDGE

Doyle is at an ODN access point, with Dojar, Cross and Quinlanstanding behind, watching intensely. Doyle takes a mobilecomputer unit and plugs it into the ODN access point.

QUINLANI still don't get what you're doing.

DOYLEOne of the safety protocols on theTrafalgar is to prevent any outsideforce gaining control of our computer. If it detects an intrusive program,or virus, it immediately locks outevery system.

DOJARBut then it becomes impossible foranyone to use.

DOYLEExactly. If no one has access thenit slows down the progress of thevirus.

QUINLANIt's like being in a corridor ofdoors and every door is locked.

Page 37: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT THREE 36.

DOYLEExactly, and every one of those doorshas another door and another doorand many more inside it. Eventuallyit will be able to kick them alldown but it's gonna take some time. However, there is a small part ofthe computer that has been lockedoff from the rest. It can only beaccessed with this emergency computermodule at this ODN access point.

QUINLANAnd you're going to use it tointerface this module into thecomputer and reroute power from thecloak to destroy the security fieldemitters?

DOYLEWhich will then allow us to movefreely around the ship via theJefferies tubes.

DOJARIt's all very well in theory butit's not going to work.

DOYLEWe'll see.

DOJARYou can't take power from a systemlike the cloak and reroute it likethat. They're not compatible!

Doyle stops and looks back at Dojar.

DOYLETrust me, I know things.

DOJARWhat things?

Doyle winks before returning to work. Dojar stands thereand simply scoffs in response.

DOJAR (CONT'D)Nonsense.

Dojar turns around and walks across the Bridge to where Crossand Quinlan are working.

QUINLANWell, with most of the marines trappedon the decks below, it doesn't leaveus with many options.

Page 38: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT THREE 37.

DOJARCaptain, wouldn't it make sense, inlight of recent events, to bring usup to speed on what we're doing outhere?

Beat.

CROSSNo.

DOJARBut, sir, that ship has clearlyinflicted damage upon us. How canwe act if we don't know what thatship is and what it wants?

CROSSI don't know what that ship is,Lieutenant.

DOJARDo you have your suspicions?

CROSSPossibly that they are none of yourconcern. All you need to worry aboutis following my orders. You arerequired to do nothing more thenobey the chain of command.

DOJARYes, sir.

QUINLANWhat about Grey and the others inEngineering? What are they going todo about this situation? After all,it stands to reason that they willknow about as much as we do.

Cross takes a deep breath.

CROSSWe can't afford to start doubleguessing ourselves here. For all weknow they could have been killed inthe attack. We need to work on theassumption that we're the only onesalive.

QUINLANAnd try to retake control of theship.

CROSSExactly.

Page 39: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT THREE 38.

DOYLE (O.S.)Ah-ha! Got it.

The three of them look down to Doyle.

DOYLE (O.S.) (CONT'D)I’ve managed to reroute the powerfrom the cloak and deactivate thesecurity fields. The cloak is nowoffline.

Dojar looks miffed.

DOJARHow the hell did you do that?

Doyle smiles.

DOYLEI have talents.

QUINLANIt's reassuring to know that one ofus around here does.

CROSSSo we've got access to the majorityof the ship?

DOYLEYes, sir. However, we weren't ableto gain access to Engineering. Emergency bulkheads are in place.

QUINLANDo you know why?

DOYLENo, but I think its safe to assumethat it has something to do with ourfriend in the computer.

CROSSWe need to find this thing and quick. The danger it poses to this ship isformidable. Doyle and I will workwith the other marines to track downthis virus and eliminate it. Wewill restore computer control to theBridge so I need you two to stayhere.

DOJARCaptain, with all due respect, yourplace is on the Bridge.

CROSSAs you should know by now, Dojar, Irarely go by the rule book.

DOJARNevertheless, I am the chief securityofficer and it is my job to dealwith issues that threaten the securityof this ship.

DOYLEThis isn't the Enterprise, Dojar. Idon't remember anyone granting thattitle on this ship.

Dojar glances over at Doyle, not looking impressed.

DOJARAnd I don't remember asking for youropinion.

Dojar turns back to Cross.

DOJAR (CONT'D)Captain?

CROSSI want you here at tactical, Dojar. As soon as we get power back, I wantyou to destroy that ship.

Dojar and Quinlan look at each other, confused.

QUINLANDoes that order fall in line withour mission objectives, Captain?

Beat.

CROSSAre we clear, people?

DOJAR(downbeat)

Yes, sir. Very clear.

Cross nods as he and Doyle EXIT the Bridge. Dojar looks atQuinlan who shrugs as the camera changes to show this unknownship on the viewscreen.

ACT FOUR

FADE IN:

INT. TRAFALGAR -- ENGINEERING

Grey is crouched over the dead body from before scanning himwith a tricorder as Kinnan stands over.

KINNAN(mumbles)

Ensign Parry.(beat)

My god. What could have happened?

GREYHis neck was broken.

KINNANI told you there was no Ensign Vercoeaboard this ship. I sent Parry offto check the flow density of the EPSconverters. Unfortunately, it lookslike I also sent him to his death.

GREYDon't start thinking like that,Robert. Given our current situationit appears pretty obvious that wehave an intruder aboard.

KINNANNot just an intruder but a killer aswell.

Grey continues his scan as he finds something interesting.

GREYRobert, look at this.

Kinnan looks at the readings.

KINNANOmicron particles?

GREYThey're unusually configured. Likenothing I've ever seen before.

Grey moves closer to the body and moves the tricorder acrossthe body of the deceased Engineer. It reaches his neck andthen starts to beep. Grey looks at the readings, intrigued.

GREY (CONT'D)The highest amount of concentrationis in the region around his neck.

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT FOUR 42.

KINNAN(convinced)

That can't be a coincidence.

Grey shakes his head.

GREYNo, it's not.

Grey and Kinnan just stare at each other, looking they'reboth having the very same thoughts.

KINNANA hologram? A hostile hologram hasinvaded our ship?

GREYIt makes the most sense.

Kinnan sighs.

KINNANThen it could be anywhere, it couldget anywhere.

Grey looks at Kinnan as he starts to fiddle with histricorder, clearly indicating that he is feeling some nervesat this point in time.

GREYAnd it's in control of the Trafalgar. We need to do something about that.

Kinnan chuckles slightly.

KINNANAny ideas on how to do that, Erik?

Grey stands there and thinks. He just stares into space fora few moments before looking down at his hand to see what heis doing with the tricorder. Now aware of his actions, hestops and just looks at it. He smiles to himself.

GREYThe tricorders.

KINNANWhat about them?

GREYWe could network about three or fiveof them together and connect theminto the control panel. The combinedpower of their memory cells wouldallow us to get some computer control.

Page 44: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT FOUR 43.

KINNANMaybe, but you're talking about alot of crude work for what could beonly a few seconds of access.

Grey sighs.

GREYI don't see that we have any otheroptions.

KINNANThen let's do it and find out whatthe hell is going on around here.

CUT TO:

INT. TRAFALGAR -- JEFFERIES TUBE

Cross and Doyle are crawling through the tube.

CROSSThis isn't what I was expecting tobe doing on this mission.

DOYLEWhat did you expect, sir?

CROSSI don't know, but I can't say that Ireally wanted to be here, doing this.

DOYLEWell, I for one, am glad you arehere, sir. I cannot think of a singlecommanding officer in Starfleet thatI would rather serve under.

Cross looks slightly shocked and looks at Doyle.

CROSSAre you mocking me, soldier?

DOYLEOf course not, sir. I am completelyserious.

CROSSThen why all the flattery?

DOYLEI'm just pointing out my admirationfor you, Captain. You are a muchidolized figure amongst the marinecorps.

Page 45: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT FOUR 44.

CROSSIdolized? Why?

DOYLEFor your style, for your panache, for the way you deal with situations. That is, after all, why you wereassigned to this mission and I can'tthink of a better man for the job.

Cross frowns, skeptical and slightly curious.

CROSSYou seem to know a lot about me,Doyle.

DOYLEOf course, sir. You are the hero ofCoular.

Cross stops there in his tracks, shocked.

CROSSI'm what?

Doyle also stops and looks over at Cross.

DOYLEThe hero of Coular. The mastermindof a tactician who put an end to thecowardly Klingon attackers.

Cross scoffs.

CROSSI'm no hero, Doyle.

DOYLEWhy not, sir?

CROSSBecause what I did was wrong. Ikilled people, I didn't follow ordersand I have learned to accept thatfact and move on.

DOYLEI am aware of what the courts ruled, sir; but that does not alter the waythat I, or many others, see theincident. You were betrayed by yourown government. Starfleet should'veawarded you a medal of valor forwhat you did.

Page 46: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT FOUR 45.

CROSSDoyle, what I did at Coular was nottrue to my responsibilities as aStarfleet officer and as a ship'sCaptain. I'm no hero.

Cross begins to crawl off again.

DOYLEI'm sorry, Captain, but that's notthe way I see it.

Cross stops and pays attention.

DOYLE (CONT'D)You may have come to accept what youdid as "wrong" and a million otherpeople may agree with you, but oneman's butcher is another man's hero. That's why I, and the other marineson this ship, admire and deeplyrespect you for what you did thatday.

Doyle starts to crawl on, leaving Cross to ponder on what hehas just been told.

The camera is positioned to be looking down the middle of acorridor when, suddenly, the Cardassian Virus walks throughthe wall and into the shot. The camera changes angle toshow a close up view of this Virus and it looks down bothends of a corridor before suddenly disappearing into thinair.

Just after it disappears three marines come scurrying throughthe corridor, weapons ready and looking alert. The one atthe front points the other two to go in different directions. They both move off as one marine remains and continues tolook around. In the background we see the Cardassian movethrough the wall and from behind the marine.

The camera is positioned in the middle of the corridor as itswings to the right to see one marine standing, weapon inhand, alert. It then swings to the left to see anothermarine, similarly posed. Then we hear a distant scream asboth men come running from both sides and down the corridor. A few moments later and they arrive to see this marine lyingon the ground, dead. The two of them just looking at eachother, worried.

INT. TRAFALGAR -- CORRIDOR (DECK THREE)

The camera maintains a close up view of the closed hatchwayas it opens up to reveal Doyle. He looks ahead at somethingwe can't see, a bit worried. The camera changes angle toshow, from his perspective, a group of five marines pointingphasers at him. Doyle breathes a sigh of relief.

DOYLEGlad to see you boys are already onthe case.

The five marines lower their weapons. The one at the front,MATTHEWS, moves back to allow for Doyle to jump down.

MATTHEWSWe were only just released fromsecurity containment. As soon as wewere, we got our weapons, tricordersand made sure to secure all decks, except for Engineering.

Cross proceeds to exit the hatchway and onto the floor. Helooks around at the group of marines before picking outMatthews.

CROSSWhat's our situation, soldier?

Matthews moves to immediate attention.

MATTHEWSAll decks, except for Engineering, have been secured and contain nounauthorized intruders, sir.

CROSSVery go...

MARINE (O.S.)Sir!

Cross, Doyle, Matthews and others look to one side of thecorridor where four marines arrive on the scene. They lookslightly panicked.

MARINE (CONT'D)Sir, we lost Edwards and Campen.

CROSSWhat happened to them?

MARINESomething got them, sir. It broketheir necks down on Deck Five. Wescouted the immediate vicinity andthen evacuated the deck.

CROSSSomething got them?

MARINEDidn't see it, sir. Didn't evenhear it.

Cross looks at Doyle.

DOYLEIt would appear that this Virus hasacquired physical form.

Cross nods in acknowledgment and then looks at Matthews andnotices a tricorder on his belt.

CROSSCan I have that?

Matthews immediately hands over his tricorder, whilst stillstanding at attention.

MATTHEWSOf course, sir.

Cross looks at the marines to notice they are all standingat attention.

CROSSAt ease, gentlemen. We have a jobto do here, and, although I appreciatethe gesture, we're not going to getit done by keeping our backs straightall day.

The marines all go to ease as Cross looks at the Tricorderand walks around the area. Doyle follows him. A few momentslater and Cross looks confused.

CROSS (CONT'D)Doyle, what do you make of this?

Cross hands him the tricorder. Doyle looks it over andfrowns.

DOYLEI'm not sure, sir. It would appearthat the virus has been graduallyrerouting power to different sectionsof the ship.

Doyle walks up to a panel, opens it up and scans it with thetricorder.

Page 49: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT FOUR 48.

DOYLE (CONT'D)Somehow, and don't ask me how itsbeen done, the replicators have beenintegrated into the ships powerconduits to create somehologenerators. It appears that itis producing omicron particles.

Cross frowns.

CROSSBut I thought that could only becreated by matter/antimatterreactions.

DOYLELike I said, sir, don't ask me toexplain it.

Cross nods in acknowledgment and takes a moment to think.

The camera pans across the bar, where many officers are placedenjoying their drinks and some light conversation. The cameracomes upon the door, which opens as Talora walks through. The camera moves in on her face as she looks around the areabefore spotting what she's after. The camera angle changesto show, from her first person perspective, Williams andElris enjoying a drink at a table. Talora takes a deep breathand walks over, with the camera following from over hershoulder.

ELRIS...and it turned out that it wasn'ther drink but it was the Whagosh'surine!

Williams smiles and screws up his face slightly.

WILLIAMSThat's... gross.

Elris chuckles.

ELRISYou have no idea.

TALORACaptain...

Both Williams and Elris look up.

WILLIAMSHello, Commander. What can I do foryou?

TALORAI just arrived on the Bridge whereLieutenant Cale informed me that twoCardassians delegates had come aboard, and since left, the ship.

WILLIAMSThat's right.

Talora stands there waiting for him to volunteer some moreinformation rather then having to pry it out of him.

TALORAWell, as the first officer, shouldn'tI have been informed of such animportant meeting?

WILLIAMSIt wasn't necessary. They cameaboard, we talked and now it's donewith.

Talora frowns.

TALORAWe have accomplished our mission?

WILLIAMSWe have.

Talora stands there, once again, feeling like not much isbeing said.

TALORAThen shall I plot a return course toStarbase 47?

Williams shakes his head and stands up.

WILLIAMSNo, I'll do that. I've got somethingto take care of anyway.

Williams looks down at Elris.

WILLIAMS (CONT'D)Thanks for the drink, Doctor.

Elris smiles in response as Williams walks out of the scene. Talora just stands there and looks down at Elris. Elris, feeling slightly uncomfortable after a while, frowns.

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT FOUR 50.

ELRISWhy are you looking at me like that?

TALORAYou seem to be on friendly termswith the Captain, Doctor.

ELRISYeah, he's a nice guy. Somewhat ararity in this day and age.

Talora merely nods in acknowledgment as she stands there, not going anywhere and not saying anything either. Elris, noticing this, seems a bit taken aback by it.

ELRIS (CONT'D)Do you not think so?

TALORAI am having... difficulties in judginghis character.

ELRISHow so?

Elris holds out her arm to gesture for Talora to sit down, which she does.

TALORASo far, the Captain has not beenforthcoming with any informationabout this mission.

ELRISMaybe there just isn't anything totell.

TALORAAs first officer, I should be keptinformed of all command decisionsand have all available informationpertaining to the operations of thisship.

(beat)It seems like everyone else aroundhere, apart from me, is just willingto accept that!

ELRISTalora, I don't think you've giventhe Captain a chance. He's a reallynice guy with some interestingstories. Listening to them andtelling a few of your own is thebest way to get to know somebody.

ELRIS (CONT'D)It's one of the first steps indeveloping a relationship. It allowsyou to become more familiar andtrusting with each other.

TALORAAnd, after hearing these stories,Doctor, do you think you can trustCaptain Williams?

Elris sits there and ponders that thought.

ELRISYes, yes I do.

TALORAI see.

ELRISI don't think you really do. If youhadn't noticed, Talora, things haven'tbeen exactly buzzing on this shiplately. Relationships are strainedand some people are at each other'sthroats. Some nights you only haveto walk in here and the vibes arechilling. However, in the last dayor so that has all changed and Ilike the way it is now.

TALORAI have to wonder if people on thisship have accepted Captain Williamstoo easily.

ELRISMaybe they have, but that's up toeach individual. We both know whata year this has been and what anaffect it has had on the crew. Maybe, just maybe, they've accepted thischange of command because, deep down, they want it to stay like this.

TALORADo you want it to stay like this?

Elris sits there and sighs whilst pondering her answer.

ELRISNeil may be my ex-husband, but he'snot the same man I knew back then.

ELRISI'm saying that I could certainlylive with it.

Talora sits there and nods her head in acknowledgment, feelinguncomfortable with that answer.

ELRIS (CONT'D)Couldn't you?

Talora stands up.

TALORAI think, orders or no orders, CaptainCross would have kept me "in theloop".

INT. TRAFALGAR -- BRIDGE

Quinlan is sitting at the Helm with her feet up on theconsole, bored. Dojar is pacing around the Bridge liked acaged animal.

DOJARI don't like feeling as helpless anduseless as this.

QUINLANWell, get used to it, Gril. For themoment, we're not going anywhere.

All of a sudden the ship shakes a bit as it starts to move. Quinlan takes her feet down and looks at her console.

QUINLAN (CONT'D)Or I could be wrong.

Dojar walks over to the station.

DOJARWhat is it?

Quinlan reads the control panel.

Page 54: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

QUINLANIt would appear that we have lockedonto that ship with a tractor beamand are now on course for Orias III.

DOJARI'll go and tell the Captain.

Dojar goes to leave.

QUINLANDojar, wait. Take a look at this.

Dojar stops and looks down at the readings as the cameramoves in to gage his reaction. He looks instantly concerned.

DOJARLooks like I better be quick.

INT. TRAFALGAR -- CORRIDOR (DECK THREE)

Cross stands there, arms crossed, pondering his next move.

CROSSDoyle, is it possible to track theseomicron particles?

DOYLEThe tricorder is configured for that, sir.

CROSSGood.

DOYLEMay I ask what you have in mind,Captain?

CROSSIt would appear that we have a virusembedded in our computer that isusing these omicron particles toacquire physical form.

DOYLEAt least the lack of currentlyavailable power will restrict thestrength to manageable levels, fornow. However, our phasers would beuseless against it.

CROSSHow long will it before it has accessto the entire ship?

DOYLEMaybe an hour, maybe less.

Page 55: 2x24 To Be Someone...RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - TEASER 3. He starts to work away at the control panel but, once again, to no use. He looks very panicked. The camera cuts back to

RENAISSANCE: "To Be Someone" - ACT FOUR 54.

CROSSThen we need to get rid of it whileit still has a weakness. If it's acomputer based virus that needs ahologenerator to acquire physicalform then its weakness is the computeritself and computers have offswitches.

DOYLENow that we have deactivated theforcefields, we could get to thecomputer core via the Jefferies tubeand simply reboot the system.

CROSSAs the system reboots, we could usethe personal interface in the computercore to regain control of the ship.

MATTHEWSBut surely, if it's a virus, itwouldn't take long to spread againand regain control.

DOYLEYes, but not unless we do somethingto it first. Something that removesthe threat it poses to us.

Cross smiles as a thought hits his mind.

CROSSAnd I know what. Doyle, you're withme. Matthews, you an...

DOJAR (O.S.)Captain!

Cross stops and looks back to the hatchway to see Dojar exitand walk towards him.

DOJAR (CONT'D)Whatever force is in control of thisship has just locked onto that shipwith a tractor beam and is headingfor Orias III at full impulse.

DOYLEWhy would we be going to Orias III?

DOJARNo, you don't understand. We're notheading for Orias III orbit, we'reheading straight, full on, for theplanet's surface.

INT. TRAFALGAR -- JEFFERIES TUBE

Cross and Doyle are crawling side by side through anotherone of the Jefferies tubes.

INT. TRAFALGAR -- ENGINEERING

Grey and Kinnan are continuing their work, as they try tointerface their network of tricorders into the control panel.

KINNANThe interface isn't configuringproperly.

GREYJust run it past the secondary relay.

Kinnan nods in acknowledgment as he carries on with the work.

KINNANErik...

(beat)What are we going to do with this ifit works?

Grey goes to speak when an alarm starts to sound.

GREYMaybe find out what has started thatalarm and stop it.

Grey and Kinnan continue their work, picking up the pace.

INT. TRAFALGAR -- JEFFERIES TUBE

Cross and Doyle continue to crawl along the cramped space.

DOYLECaptain, I must tell you that I thinkthis is a truly brilliant plan.

KINNANReady?

GREYAs ready as ever.

Kinnan presses a button on the control panel. A small sectionof the panel lights back up. Kinnan starts to work away atthe panel.

KINNANAll primary command functions arelocked off. All secondary systemsas well. I can't access the internalsensors but I'm trying to access theinternal diagnostics.

Kinnan frowns.

KINNAN (CONT'D)This is interesting. Power wasrerouted from the phasing cloak tothe security forcefields. It managedto blow out all the emitters.

GREYRerouted from where?

KINNANFrom the Bridge.

GREYThat must mean that the Captain andothers have the freedom of the ship. I'm sure they would have come upagainst our friend in the computerby now and managed to work it allout.

KINNANThey will know about the threat tothe ship and try to do somethingabout it. They'll know thatEngineering is locked off by emergencybulkheads so will direct theirattention elsewhere.

(beat)But where?

Grey and Kinnan look deep in thought. The panel bleeps.

KINNAN (CONT'D)(urgent)

We're losing our link.

Grey walks over to the control panel and starts to work away.

KINNAN (CONT'D)What are you doing?

GREYI can re-route the power from thetractor beam to this particular sub-system. It will help the others ifthey're doing what I think they'redoing.

Kinnan watches Grey as he works away.

KINNANBut, Erik, where you're sending itdoesn't make any sense.

GREYOn the contrary, as you should knowby now, Captain Cross rarely goes bythe rule book.

Grey continues to frantically work away. The panel bleepsagain as Kinnan looks down.

KINNANWe're losing the connection.

GREYAlmost there.

KINNANTen seconds.

GREYAlmost there.

Grey continues to work away as Kinnan watches the panel.

KINNANThree, two, one... we're out.

Grey stands up and takes a deep breath.

KINNAN (CONT'D)Did you do it?

GREYIt was close.

Kinnan frowns.

DOJARLet's see if I can do this.

VOICE (O.S.)I sincerely doubt it.

Dojar looks to the side, where we see Matthews fall to theground to reveal the Virus, once again sporting a Cardassianface, behind. Dojar raises his weapon to the Virus and startsto slowly back off.

DOJARKeep back.

The Virus raises his hands.

VIRUSI'm not here to hurt you, Dojar.

DOJARThere are some dead marines on thisship who would disagree with you, ifthey were still able to talk.

VIRUSHe is a threat to me. He is a threatto both of us.

Dojar scoffs.

DOJARHow do you figure that?

VIRUSBecause we are both the same. Weare both Cardassian.

DOJAR(dismissive)

You're not Cardassian.

VIRUSI am as every bit Cardassian as youare, Dojar. Every fiber of my being, every fiber of what I am isCardassian. My heart is of thatworld.

VIRUSNot in the same way as you, no, butI am of Cardassia. I am here toprotect that world, its space andevery single Cardassian.

DOJARProtect them? How?

VIRUSI'm here for them. Cardassia hasbeen a world without power for thelast 30 years, not able to defendits own space or even feed it ownspeople. The millions of deadCardassians at the end of the Dominionwar changed the attitude of thepeople. There was no reason to fightanymore. No reason for them to beout here in space dying for a causethey neither felt was just or right. But there were a few who felt asstrong as ever about protecting thefuture of Cardassia and one of themcreated me.

DOJARHow many more of you are they?

VIRUSI'm the prototype, still in the fieldexperimental stage, but it won't belong before many more of us are outhere fighting for the future.

DOJARBut what you're doing is murderingothers! You're not just warningthem off like a patrol vessel. You'reinvading their ship, violating theircomputer and murdering them!

VIRUSIt is they who are in the wrong. Byviolating our space, they arecommitting a hostile act against theinterests of Cardassia. I am thelaw out here and I do what I must.

DOJARYou're making it sound like it's anus versus them scenario... it isn't.

VIRUSYes, it is.

DOJARThis is just paranoia. You can'tdefend against that.

VIRUSIt's a contingency plan. A show offorce, a sign that the CardassianUnion is not as weak or feeble asthe others think.

(beat)We will prevail. I had hoped youwould understand and join me butclearly I am wrong. You are nottruly Cardassian.

DOJARI am truly Cardassian, but I justdon't see the Universe the same wayas you, your creator or thegovernment. And because of that, Iwill stop what you're doing here.

VIRUSWhat do you think you can do to stopme?

DOJARIt's simple. I can pull the plug.

VIRUSYou're out of your mind if you thinkthat I'm going to let you shut medown.

Dojar smiles.

DOJARMe? Whoever said anything about medoing it?

The Virus processes some information and looks angry.
