Guardian Family, Since I’m the Battalion Commander I will take advantage of this opportunity to express how pleased I am with the direction and accomplishments of the battalion. Specifically, the Drill Sergeants and company Command Teams are doing a phenomenal job transforming civilians into Soldiers. Just recently, Bravo Company pioneered the Army’s new Rifle Marksmanship Program and achieved amazing results—91% first time “GO” rating and qualified 100% of their Trainees. Echo Company followed suit with 88% first time “GO” rating and also qualified 100%. Charlie Company continues to be the BN Command Team’s expeditionary training pioneers; first with the FTX III Omega Squad and soon with the Urban Operations Omega Squad Training. Alpha and Delta Companies are doing an outstanding job with training their new cycles with approximately 1/2 of their Trainees being high school juniors. I imagine they will need some much deserved leave following these two cycles. The staff continues to juggle the requirements of all five companies in different cycles and dealing with the good ideas the CSM and I come up with. Thanks to the entire Bat- talion for doing an outstanding job. If you haven’t noticed, we are NOW in the Missouri Summer where temperatures are reaching upper 90s and with the high humidity, the effects are like sitting in a sauna well over 100 degrees. Take some time to prepare your families to combat the effects of sun, heat and humidity. Enjoy the Summer but make sure you are protected! I’ve spent nearly a quarter of a century in the Army and have seen many Army Families destroyed because of the lack of balancing personal lives with the responsibilities and priorities of the Army. Like most Soldiers, it is easy to ask our families to forgive us for missing significant family and personal priorities. The basic training environment is a very demanding situation, but we must be able to balance the priorities of the Army with our personal needs. I ask the families help remind their Soldier to seek balance and take advantage of the few moments and make those precious moments count. SSG Smith and Family FAREWELLS

We are saddened to see 1SG Hughes and his fam-

ily leave, but they will be enjoying their new as-

signment in Miami. Both you and Brandi who

had contributed so much to the Titan and

Guardian Family will be truly missed!

We are also saddened at the loss of one of our

exceptional Drill Sergeants, DS Harrigan. She

won both Drill Sergeant of the Cycle and Support

of the Cycle during her time in Alpha Company.

Good luck SSG Harrigan!!

Titan 6

Greetings!!! We are excited to announce the new-

est arrivals to our Titan Family. DS Ngov and wife

Kim had a beautiful baby daughter Katana. We

would also like to welcome DS Galvan and his fam-

ily to the team and they brought with them an-

other beautiful baby daughter name Charalei born

May 30. Although we are excited to announce

our smallest Titans, we are sad to let the BEST

first sergeant in the battalion go. 1SG Hughes had

been a tremendous asset to this great organiza-

tion. He has been the backbone and the one that

kept everything running. His technical and tactical

expertise, organization skills, and inspirational

speeches will be truly missed. - CPT Barnes -

1SG’s Corner As the new Titan 7, I want to take

this time to wish the Hughes’ family

best wishes with their new duty sta-

Charlie Company, As my duty of responsibility comes to an end, I look back and enjoyed every day that I spent with the Company and all of the won-derful Drill Sergeants and Cadre that made it enjoyable. As we head into Summer, I rec-ommend that you explore some of FLW’s outdoor recreational areas both on and off post. Take care Centurions and continue to uphold the Charlie Company legacy.

Congratulations to SFC Strahl for his selection as the Post Drill Sergeant of the Quarter. His superior efforts this Quarter are truly deserving of recognition. SSG Rivera led 2nd Pla-toon Pitbulls to win the Drill and Ceremonies (D&C) competition on June 11, 2014. SSG Rivera and the Pitbulls distinguished themselves by executing D&C with discipline and precision. Congratulations 2nd Platoon Pitbulls! Congratulations to 3rd Platoon Death Dealers for winning the top overall final Army Physical Fitness Test score!

Centurions, Our shared time is coming to an end as we prepare to welcome CPT Norgard. Truly what I will miss the most is serving with out-standing Drill Sergeants and cadre that make C Company a special place. Although this assignment is ending, my commitment to everyone assigned here will not. I am always available. Thank you for the hard work you, Soldiers and family, have given to this organization. The Sol-diers who have graduated through us are a leg-acy worth being proud of. Rock, Charlie, Rock!

I am elated to serve as the First Sergeant of

Echo Company, an I look forward to the

challenges ahead. To the cadre and drill ser-

geants thanks for the warm welcome. I chal-

lenge the Drill Sergeants of E CO. to main-

tain the Army standard in transforming civil-

ian volunteers into competent, confident

and disciplined Soldiers to live by the Army

values. Continue to train them to be physical

and mentally prepared to transition into

their next phase of IET Training. Within my

first three weeks I appreciate the hard work

and dedication the cadre and drill sergeants

demonstrate daily. This company would not

be as successful if not for the sacrifice they

make daily. Gladiator 7 out.

As the new Echo Company Commander,

I would like to take this opportunity to

formally thank everyone who helped my

first few weeks of command go smoothly .

As a new commander, I am truly fortu-

nate to have inherited such a professional

and well-run company from CPT Black.

Each one of you has stepped up to the

plate and are doing a great job of training

our latest group over 220 new trainees

(not to mention breaking in a new com-

pany Command Team). I look forward to working with everyone here at Echo and

across the battalion as we continue the

process of turning civilians into Soldiers.

Bethany has become a source of inspiration to millions

through her story of determination, faith and hope.

During a surf session on Halloween morning 2003, Bethany was attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark, which bit

off her left arm and seemed to end her career as a rising

surf star. Miraculously, just one month after the attack, Bethany returned to the water and just over a year later

won her first National title. In 2007, Bethany realized

her dream of surfing professionally and since then her

story has been told in an autobiography and in the 2011

film, Soul Surfer. She also married Adam. Dirks in 2013.
