Third Grade Dear Students and Parents, We are very excited to officially meet all of you next school year. To prepare for 3rd grade, you will be reading TWO books this summer. You may choose from among the attached list of book titles. Try to choose a book that really interests you, since reading should always be enjoyable! Please be sure that both books are completely read by the first day of school, as we will be taking Accelerated Reader tests on both books. Attached are directions for a book report as well as making a diorama depicting the main event in your book of choice. These will be great ways for us to know that not only did you read your books, but you understood them as well. Also, we will have beautiful dioramas to display in our classroom and share with the 2nd graders during our Diorama Tour event! Another way to be prepared for the transition into 3rd grade is to maintain skills learned in 2nd grade. Students are to practice skills within IXL and Raz-Kids online learning programs for a minimum of 600 minutes. (200 minutes in IXL Math, 200 minutes in IXL Language Arts, and 200 minutes in Raz- Kids) Class credit will be assigned for completion. This is a great opportunity to get a head start for a successful year. Please practice and memorize your addition and subtraction facts (0-18). Our goal is to complete 100 problems in 4 minutes. Use flashcards to practice your facts each day for 10 minutes. We will be taking timed test in the first week of school. We also encourage all students to keep a writing journal over the summer, not only will this help you maintain and practice your handwriting, but it will also help you keep your writing skills fresh as we head into Fall. You may bring your journal in to share the first week of school. Have a wonderful and safe summer. We are looking forward to seeing you in August. Sincerely, Ms. Hinshaw and Mrs. Eichman
