Our fete is fast approaching and will be held on
Tuesday 19th September. We have already held 3
mufti days to help stock our stalls and have another
one planned later this term. We thank you for all
your support so far. Our fete will not be successful
without fully stocked stalls so please dig deep and
donate what you can for our biggest fundraising
event of the year. Our next mufti day will be on
Friday 25th August, which will be pyjama day!
Food: A note has been sent home regarding food pre-
orders. Pre-ordering assists us in catering for the
event and also helps your budget by reducing the
amount of cash needed on fete day. We are also
planning to have a pre-paid express lane at the BBQ
so pre-order to save time! Food pre-orders close
Friday 25th August.
Show Bags: A note was sent home earlier this term
regarding this year’s show bags. There are 4 to choose
from and these bags must be ordered by Friday 18th
August. A board displaying the contents of the bags
will be on display during selected break times shortly.
Rides: A note has already been sent home for the pre-
order of ride bands. If you choose to pre-order these
bands they cost $25. If you choose to purchase a ride
band on the day of the fete it will cost $30. All ride
band notes and payment for the pre-sale must be
returned to school by Friday 25th August.
Raffle: Raffle tickets will be sent home really soon.
We have some fantastic prizes on offer this year. First
prize is a massage chair. Second prize is one night’s
accommodation and one meal at The Beehive Hotel in
Tumut. Third prize is a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and
fourth prize is a voucher for a Gold Class experience
at Event Cinemas. This year, there will be an added
incentive to sell tickets. The student who sells the
most tickets will win a $50 Macarthur Square
Voucher.

Pie in the Face: The "Pie in the Face" tins have taken
residency on the canteen steps. Don't forget to drop
some change into the executive's tin who you'd like to
see get a cream pie squashed onto their face! Mr
Harris, Mrs Danial, Mr Kellaway and Mr Batty are all
up for 'pieing' this year. Remember the person with
the most money will be the winner of the most pies to
the face. We are happy to advise that these executives
will be wearing 1 pie per hundred dollars raised!
We have a jam-packed fete with lots
of old favourites and a few new stalls
on offer. Be sure to start saving your
pocket money so that you can have the
best fete day ever!
On Thursday 20th July, St Andrews Public School
came together to celebrate NAIDOC week. NAIDOC
week is a time when we celebrate the achievements of
Indigenous people - the first people of this country
and the longest continuing culture on the planet.
We were lucky to host local Aboriginal Elder, Uncle
Dave, who spoke about his passion for Aboriginal
Culture and how proud he was to be a local
Aboriginal man. He spoke from the heart and had all
our students captivated.
We held the assembly in our beautiful rose garden
and had lovely winter weather. All our speakers did a
wonderful job and had the audience interested in
their stories. To conclude our assembly we sung
‘Hands Across Australia’ which was a very special
way to finish. It was a very touching moment for our
Indigenous guests.
After the assembly the staff of St Andrews hosted our
special guests, Uncle Dave and our Indigenous
students with a beautiful morning tea during which
students were encouraged to share stories of their
own personal culture and history.
All students were very respectful throughout the
whole assembly and teachers spent the rest of the day
further exploring Indigenous Culture and history in
their classrooms.
NAIDOC DAY ASSEMBLY
ULTIMATE DREAMTIME
INCURSION
On Monday 31st July, as part of our NAIDOC week
celebrations, we were lucky enough to host the
Koonmurri Aboriginal Incursions who entertained
and educated us with their Ultimate Dreamtime
package.
We were lucky enough to come together as a whole
school for the Welcoming Concert and Smoking
Ceremony before breaking up into groups and
rotating through 5 events which were: boomerang
throwing, Aboriginal art and face painting,
Aboriginal artefacts, didgeridoo playing and
storytelling, and Aboriginal song and dance.
Unfortunately, after lunch the rains came and so we
had to quickly change the boomerang throwing
activity to a rotation that saw us learn about Torres
Strait Islander history and culture, but I commend all
students on their flexibility and co-operation during
this quick re-shuffle.
At the end of the day Primary students were lucky
enough to join in the closing ceremony and farewell
our wonderful entertainers.
We are so proud of all our students. They thoroughly
immersed themselves in learning all about Aboriginal
Culture and were complimented on their respect and
good manners by the entertainers.
We are looking forward to similar experiences in the
future.

KINDERGARTEN NEWS
On Thursday the 19th July, Kindergarten departed on their very first excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm.
Excitement levels were high as the students boarded the bus with their friends and teachers, as parents and caregivers
waved goodbye. The day at the farm offered many enjoyable and educational activities. Students were able to enter a
petting zoo, go on a tractor ride and pat baby chicks and a baby rabbit. The tour guides explained all about the
different farm animals and how they provide for human needs. Students learnt new words such as calf, lamb, kid,
buck, drake, gander and duckling. In the afternoon students got the opportunity to see three shows: ‘sheep shearing’,
‘cracking a whip’ and ‘working dogs’. Students were delighted to see these interesting shows. The bus ride home was
very quiet as our Kindergarten kids returned to school after a tiring but amazing day!

On Tuesday the 1st August, Kindergarten celebrated 100 days at school. The celebration was focused around being
‘100 days smarter’ and recognising the amazing growth of our Kindergarten students. To mark the occasion, students
and teachers dressed up as 100 year olds! The day began with an assembly where each student was presented with a
certificate of achievement. This was followed by a 100 metre race on the oval, where even some enthusiastic parents
participated!! Students were then engaged in a range of classroom activities centred around the number 100 and
having lots of fun! Well done to all our Kindergarten students!

St Andrews Celebrates: 2 SAPS’olutely Outstanding!!!
Our second instalment is upon us!!! We are underway! This section of our newsletter is to share successes from the
entire school community!! I know there is more out there in ‘newsletterland’, so please help me in celebrating this
wonderful place and our amazing kids and parents here at St Andrews Public School.
Lucas Caruana of 2T has been attending Hip Hop classes once a week for about a year in Macquarie Fields at Father
Chris Riley's Youth Centre. His dance instructor is great and welcomes children of all backgrounds of learning to her
classes. Lucas’ mum was very anxious when Lucas first started his classes, wondering whether he could follow the
instructions and be accepted by the other children. Fortunately, he grew with confidence, made lots of new friends
and dances with passion. His personality has contributed such a positive vibe within his class. At the end of each
term, his performances show his effort and how his ability to learn new activities has developed. Lucas is a testament
to getting out there and trying new things that challenge you. Well done, Lucas! Keep up the outstanding effort and
drive. We all celebrate your achievements.
A great education is important to this little man but, with Ryan Carter of 3P, his sport is
of equal importance. Ryan has been a sports star from
kindergarten, always placing in school carnivals and events.
Now that Ryan has moved into primary, he is now able to
represent his school in zone carnivals and competition
soccer. Ryan loves his school and is very proud to represent
St Andrews.
Ryan is learning to become a well-rounded person, trying to
get a balance between academic learning and physical
growth and development.
We look forward to hearing about all of his achievements in
the years to come.
A student from our school has been giving up his time to pursue his passion for music. Earlier this year, William Lam
was successful in fulfilling the criteria for inclusion in the Cross Network Creative and Performing Arts Project -
Concert Band.
Following the process, which was open to all the students in our Ultimo Network of Schools, William was selected to
play clarinet when representing our school as a member of the band. His older sister is also a member of this band!
The Lams must be proud parents!
These ensembles are part of the Cross Network Creative and Performing Arts Project, an initiative supported by the
Directors of the Bankstown, Campbelltown, Macarthur and Glenfield Networks. The band is made up of students
from Years 4 to 11 who have some experience playing a concert band or orchestral string instrument, with a
minimum of 1 year playing their instrument or an Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) Grade 1 or
equivalent. Earlier this year, 17th – 18th June 2017, the band members attended a two day band camp at Macquarie
Fields High School where they were able to meet each other and play as an ensemble.
Places in this program were limited and by application only. This is an excellent chance for William and his other band
members to access additional opportunities in music. William will learn, practise and perform several pieces of music
together with his peers. The ensembles will perform at the Cross Network Concert on 7th
September 2017 at
Bankstown Sports Club. We wish William all the best for his performance.
