Onondaga Free Library Winter Programming
December 2018, January & February 2019
Winter Bake-Off:
CHOCOLATE! Sunday, Feb. 10
Bakers - Entry Drop-off: 1:30-2:30pm Test your baking
skills and enter our 4th annual bake-off! Make a cake,
cookies, truffles or a secret family recipe that uses
chocolate. Winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to
the Chocolate Pizza Company.
*Registration required by Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Tasting & Award Ceremony: 3pm Attend and vote for
your favorites prepared by local bakers! The winner will
be announced at the event.

Holiday Concert:
Merry Mischief Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2pm
Come get into the holiday spirit and sing along with

Take Your Child to
the Library Day Saturday, Feb. 2
OFL has books, movies, puzzles, a puppet theater,
blocks, LEGOs, toys, special programming and more!
Celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day by
exploring all that OFL has to offer. Come make your
own bookmark and celebrate all things library!

Christmases Past Monday, Dec. 3 at 6pm
Come celebrate Christmas and other holiday traditions
from America's past. Enjoy snacks, songs, games, crafts
and more! For ages 7-12. Registration required.
Jewelry Class:
Rudolph Earrings Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6:30pm
Come learn how to make these adorable reindeer
earrings, complete with a shiny nose! Cost: $7/person

Holiday Gift Buzz Friday, Dec. 7 at 11am
'Tis the season for holiday shopping! Let your friends at
OFL help- We will offer suggestions for those on your list
who love books, tech gadgets and games.
Librarians will be highlighting our new technology
(GoPro, FitBit, Google Home, Amazon Echo and more!),
book recommendations for all ages as well as fun and
educational games and toys for kids. Refreshments will
be served.
For adults. Registration requested.
Gingerbread Houses Saturday, Dec. 8 at 11am
Come make a gingerbread house with us! We will
provide the supplies, but feel free to bring any specific
'decorations' you would like to use.
For kids, ages 8 & up! Registration required.
Holiday Book Exchange Dec. 7-16
Share the love of reading this season with a special
friend or sibling. Pick one book for a friend or family
member and wrap your gift.
Books and gift wrapping station will be on display in
the Storytime Room December 7-16.
Book selection is for elementary through teens.
Please take 1 book per child. Program runs while
supplies last.
Polar Express Party Saturday, Dec. 22 at 10:30am - 12:30pm
All aboard the Polar Express! Join us for cocoa and
crafts during our movie showing of this holiday classic!
Parents, need to finish some holiday shopping?
We’ve got you covered- This is a drop-off program!
Our Junior Library Volunteers will be on-hand to
babysit kids during this program.
Children must be picked up by 12:30pm.

New Year with a celebration that will in-
clude music, dancing, crafts, snacks, and
a special countdown at noon!

Stop the Bleed Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 6pm
No matter how rapidly professional emergency
responders arrive, bystanders are always first on the
scene. Empower yourself and learn how taking simple
steps might save a life! Presented by the Trauma
Department Staff, Upstate University Hospital

Women’s Investment Series
Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 6:30pm - Time Matters: A
Woman's Retirement Outlook - Discuss the financial
concerns facing women who are getting ready for
or have recently retired and learn income
strategies: perspectives around Social Security and
the rising costs of health care and long-term care.
Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6:30pm - Outsmart the
Scammers - Learn how to spot certain red flags
that may indicate a fraudulent encounter,
resources you can turn to in the event you are
targeted and steps you can take now to help
protect yourself and your loved ones.
Presented by CJ Sturtevant, a financial advisor with
Edward Jones. Registration requested for each event.
Puzzle Swap
& Social
Saturday, 1/19 at 2pm
Bring your used puzzles, swap them out for different
ones and enjoy some refreshments with your fellow
puzzlers. Even work on puzzles together– There will be
puzzles set up for all ages and skill levels!

Poetry Open Mic Night Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 6:30pm
Come share your original poetry or short stories! Don't
write?... Read something by your favorite poet or just
simply listen to some incredible writing.
For adults & teens, ages 16 & up
Registration required if you would like to do a reading.
OFL Book Club Read popular books, both fiction and non-fiction, that
provoke discussion about many different topics.
Each month, meet new members and a new staff
facilitator. Come to as many or as few meetings as
you like… There is no obligation!

Volunteer at the library and join our team of emerging
teen leaders. Make a positive impact in your
community, working with adult mentors and peers on
projects at the library. Volunteers help setup book
displays and write reviews- Share your favorite books
with other bibliophiles! This group can help teens fulfill
required volunteer service hours and prepare for
future college and career opportunities.

Calling all young writers - Are you working on a novel,
movie script or comic? Join our writing group. Play

make a difference through crafts!
Dec. 10 - Make t-shirt bags to donate to the Food
Bank of CNY (Please bring an old t-shirt and food
donations are encouraged!)
Jan. 14 - Make lip balm to donate to Vera House
Feb. 4 - Make bracelets that we will sell at the library-
100% of the proceeds will be donated to the CNY

Fancy Nancy Valentine’s Party
Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2pm Get FANCY with Miss Maggie & Mrs. Tucker and enjoy
crafts, snacks, stories and more! The Grand Finale will
be a runway show, so wear your fanciest clothes and

Underground Railroad
Lap Quilt Raffle Quilts may have played a
significant role in communication
between slaves and helped them
on their way to freedom.
In honor of Black History month, the
Friends will be raffling off a beautiful
lap quilt whose design is inspired by
the Underground Railroad.
Tickets will be available Feb. 1.
$5 each or 5 for $20
